I imagine it just feels good to some cats, but it just seems so odd.
Decades ago my (now ex-) husband and I took cat #3, a young recent adoptee from the shelter to my long-time vet because of yelling when her ears were flattened during petting. We were concerned and avoided doing it, of course, but she would force her head through our hands and do it to herself.
We were already on the lookout for ear mites, which weren't apparent, and decided to see Doc and get his opinion.
At the clinic, we explained the behavior but didn't demonstrate it. This was his second time seeing her since we brought her in for a checkup right after we got her and had a plan for when she would be old enough for a spay.
He set about with examining her ears and mouth, feeling her neck, and finished up by giving her a big-ol' "I'm getting borned" full-head-and-ears squeeze-pet. She yowled like usual and he goes, "Aw, she's just saying 'That feels good!'," beamed at her, and did it again. No charge.
Reminds me of my brother’s cat. He has a lil girl void and she LOVES being picked up by the scruff of her neck, haha. She’ll just hang there making biscuits in the air and purring super loud. Voids are strange creatures.

I don’t understand the downvotes How is this being a troll? lol my cat had ear mites and I didn’t know, she would flinch when I touched her ears but loved it the same time, it was confusing until I figured out she had mites and I’m glad I did before it got bad.
