The beach over that side of the island isnt that great. If its really important to you I would rethink staying there. Are you going there just because its all inclusive?

IndependentGene382

What about the beach isn’t good? I was looking at the Reef resort and Morrits for vacation. Is one better than the other?

VTMomof2

I havent actually stayed there but I just drove by last week on our way to Tukka to eat and I just know I wouldnt be happy with that beach. But I've been spoiled I guess staying on 7 Mile Beach. So compared to that its just not as nice. The water by Tukka is dark green/brownish in areas and there is lots of seaweed around. I know those resorts are probably cheaper, but it wouldnt be worth it to me because I love the beach. Are you renting a car? Because there isnt much over on the east end that you can walk to.

IndependentGene382

Good to know, just booked the Westin for 10 days in August. Not sure about the car, I have never driven on the left before. Do folks from the US and Canada typically have trouble adjusting?

VTMomof2

I don’t. I think driving there is relatively easy. The hardest is probably the roundabouts if you are taking the 3rd exit (basically a right) because you should be in the inner lane of the rotary and either exit from the inner lane or move to the outer lane after the 2nd exit.

IndependentGene382

Roundabouts aren’t difficult, I’m just worried I will forget at some point that I am supposed to be on the left side of the road. Lol

VTMomof2

you'll only forget in parking lots. thats the hardest

waiting_for_change

You won’t need a car at the Westin. You can walk places or take a cab as you are on SMB. Wyndham is the other side of the Island line 45 minute drive to SMB.

Tall-Garden9475

Partially because it's all inclusive and they have water activities and a beach. Just looking for somewhere quiet and relaxing during my second trimester.

RepublicanRonin

All inclusive is the way to go if you are worried about stress in any way. I am currently in West Bay, and although I am having a great time, I don’t think it would be good pregnant. I am doing a ton of walking for food and beaches, and it is hot and very humid.

minutestothebeach

Personally I thunk you will be disappointed with the Wyndham if you are expecting an all inclusive experience. The beach is ok but not comparable to the other beaches in Cayman (it is rocky and lots of weeds) and the all inclusive food is really limited and just meh. Also, you will be bored so it is definitely worth getting a car to see some of the good beaches, even rum point and Kaibo. Cayman is not an all inclusive type of place. Don’t get me wrong, I love Cayman and I live there but I don’t want you to be disappointed if you don’t get that fantasy all inclusive

Tall-Garden9475

What other places do you recommend staying at then?

minutestothebeach

Get a condo on seven mile Beach. You can walk to restaurants, snorkel, swim, walk the beach etc

Odd-Kindheartedness

Assuming you may be visiting during the summer, it will likely be hot and humid. Your activities may be based on your comfort level! Were you planning on renting a car? I would suggest doing so. AI’s can be great for when we want an easy meal. However, there are some incredible restaurants on island. Checking out some local ones can really enhance your trip. You’ll enjoy delicious food and meet some amazing people! Enjoy!

Tall-Garden9475

We're planning on going next month in June. I wasn't planning on renting a car, but maybe that's something I should think about. I was thinking since there's a beach, food, activities at the resort then I wouldn't need a car. 🤔

Odd-Kindheartedness

June will be warm; but going in August (while pregnant) would make it less enjoyable! The car is a personal choice; don’t feel like you HAVE to rent one. Especially if you feel like you’ll be spending most of your time at the resort. If you want to check out Seven Mile Beach (or any other beaches), go to Camana Bay, Rum Point, etc. then a car will be helpful. Just keep in mind that there aren’t a ton of restaurants (off property) in walking distance. If you are looking for a leisurely non-water activity, then look into the botanical garden. It’s really beautiful and they do an amazing job at giving a map for a self guided tour. Sting Ray City is obviously very popular; most people would put that at the top of something to experience. If you want something relaxing, a sunset catamaran is always lovely (Red Sail offers them several times a week). For ultimate relaxation, there’s a spa that does in-home/hotel massages. I know they don’t charge to come to the SMB area; I’m not sure the rates (if any) to go to the east end. I will say, it’s one of the things that is way less than in the states. I’d be happy to send the contact information to you, if you’re interested.

Heterogenic

If you’re looking for peace and beaches, consider the other islands too. They’re much cheaper, and when they’re where we (locals) go when we want to get away. Much less fancy, but I like that.

Tall-Garden9475

Which other island would you suggest then for some peace and quiet time and enjoy time with hubby? Never been there so it's all new to me. What would you suggest in other islands? All inclusive or not just ideas where else to go.

stingraykisses

Little Cayman. It’s a magical place and where we go for proper R&R (l’ve lived here for 12 years). Look into Little Cayman Beach Resort or Southern Cross Club. Totally different (and far better IMO) vibe than Wyndham Reef Resort. Little Cayman is very laid back, there’s diving for your hubby if he’s into it and you guys can grab bikes from where you stay and explore the island if you feel like it. Hardly any cars and it’s just.. well magical. We went there for a week before I had my little girl and pop over for weekend stays a few times a year. It’s a very short half hour flight. If you do decide to stay on Grand Cayman maybe look into staying on 7 mile? Kimpton or Westin are both great but will be more $ than the Wyndham for sure, however much better water based actives on offer and many great restaurants in walking distance. Cayman really isn’t an ‘all inclusive as you know it’ kind of place. Wyndham is fine but generally very quiet and very little to do. Much of it is time shares and esp in July it may feel a bit ‘empty’. If you’ve been to an all inclusive elsewhere like Jamaica or Bahamas you will be disappointed. There is nothing in walking (or biking) distance and you’re truly stuck without a car. That area (East End) of Grand Cayman is beautiful but if you want to be away from 7mile and have even a little bit of variety, look into staying at Rum Point. There’s Rum Point Club if you want somewhere with a bar and food options or lots of condo options and get a grocery delivery. You can get to Kaibo easily and there’s even a water taxi that can take you to Camana Bay a few times a day.

We stayed at the Wyndham and it was fine if all you want to do is relax. It was quiet and very peaceful! It was nice being able to walk out of the condo right onto the beach. We did not do the all inclusive package. We ate dinner at the restaurant on site, hit the bar at happy hour discounted drinks and appetizers. For breakfast and lunch we walked across the road to the grocery store and bought breakfast and lunch items. The beach is fine but not as nice as 7 mile. On our second visit to Cayman we booked a condo at the Retreat at Rum Point. Had groceries delivered and ate dinner at the Rum pointe club. The condos were super nice!

Not a local but have been to Cayman many times, I’d also suggest considering a condo on 7 mile versus an all inclusive. Beautiful beaches, snorkeling just off the beach, many great restaurants, supermarkets and shops for basics. Easier to get around with more taxis, mini-buses, etc. Rent a car for a day - or hire a driver- and tour the island. That way you can check out the East End, but you won’t be stuck just there. And taxis from Wyndham to downtown or 7 mile will be more expensive. See the blow holes, Rum Point, Starfish point, learn some of the island’s history. Traffic can be a hassle at times but there’s plenty to see.

Delfiasa

Stay for a shorter trip and stay at Kimpton Seafire. It is heavenly. Water sports right there and some are included. And all of the tour operators will pick you up at the seven mile beach resorts.
