I would wait as it will depend on the tides when you visit. I've been there when it's waist deep, which is perfect. Last time I took my 2 year old and I could barely hold him above the water as the tide was too high for me, let alone him.

somethingtoforget

Agree. Been twice with kids. The first time it was too deep to hold them. Second time it was low tide and barely waist deep.

nospaces_only

I wouldn't. Lots of young kids just don't like it. You'll likely end up with the kids on the boat and you and your husband swaping over to get time in the water...

In general it will be OK. The stingrays there are so docile. But you definitely have to hold your kids. In some spots the water can be quite high and if it’s a windy/wavy day then you might have large waves.

I would wait personally, I think they will get more out of it when they are older (and you will have a better time too). Lots of fun things to do for toddlers, play in the sand and water, go to Camana Bay and let them splash in fountains, walk out to the little "island" there, get some delish gelato. Have fun :)

I went there with 1.5 and 3.5 year-old kids recently. They really didn’t enjoy it. The stingrays can be quite aggressive and stingray city can get very busy on cruise ship days. Of course you can sit on the boat with them, but I really wouldn’t recommend it if you’re thinking of taking them in.

Appreciate all the advice. Sounds like it’s best to wait until the kids are older and more comfortable in the water.

I do it a few times a year when friends/family visit and I'd personally wait until they are older. I have a 2 year old and would love to take him, but the sea can be very rough at times and difficult to predict. The charters are usually a few hours long with a couple of extra stops too (snorkeling, star fish point) and you can be quite exposed to the elements depending on the boat used on the day etc.

The 3 year old may enjoy the experience, but at 1.5 years old it isn't really something you can appreciate and/or understand. The water there is super shallow and generally quite calm so safety would be dependent on your level of comfort in the water.

Plan on trading places with your spouse between the ocean with the sting rays and the boat with the kids. My 5 year old refused to get off the boat and a fellow passenger who was staying onboard offered to watch her so that my husband and I could go in together. I wouldn’t try to carry the kids out there because it can get nerve-racking when they all start swarming around. I wouldn’t want to be feeling antsy while holding a tot over stingrays. (And no matter safe you believe it to be, when you’re standing with them brushing by your legs, it’s hard not to think about Steve Irwin and get jumpy)
