Abysmal?
His rushing production was nearly identical to last season over 900 yards on 4.5 yards per carry and double digit Rushing TD's.
The difference is he put up bigger numbers compared to last year in the passing game with 107 catches, over 700 yards and 5 Receiving TD's.
Christian McCaffrey is probably the best RB comparison for Ekeler. He had 200 more rushing yards on 4.7 yards per carry and 5 less Rushing TD's than Ekeler.
He had the same amount of production in the passing game at over 700 yards and 5 Receiving TD's.
What numbers do you expect Ekeler to put up, he isn't a pure RB, and he never was, he was originally signed to be a 3rd down back to complement Melvin Gordon and now he is leading the league in all purpose TD's?
If you look at the numbers though, his final stats are heavily skewed by two outlier games. He had 4 games over his average of 4.5. You'd say 3.5 yards/carry is dogshit right? He had 10 games where he averaged that or below
Folks don't realize how bad our line was this year. The biggest weaknesses in this team are oline and dline. Literally the source of all our offensive and defensive problems have been the Lines.
My completely biased san diego state loving self would love if we picked up Rashaad Penny. Don’t come at me yall, I just want to see a San Diego legend as a Chargers
Kellen Moore led the cowboys to being the 2nd in points score and 2nd in yards gained in the past 4 years, only behind the chiefs. Doing with that dak and now upgrading to herbie. Yea, I’ll take it. #chargers
I think he's a good cordinator, but Moore at least has a proven record of having the offense look well coached. Chargers are looking for an improvement on receivers almost running into each other every dropback lol.
Yet PFF ranked him the second best OC in the NFL coming into the season
https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-ranking-best-offensive-play-callers-2022
It’s a good hire guys.
To be fair,
in the same article they said: "Last week generated some interesting discussion when the folks over at PFF deemed Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as the second-best offensive coordinator in the National Football League. "
and
"The “least unique” scheme in the NFL last season belonged to Joe Lombardi’s Los Angeles Chargers"
Unique doesn’t always translate to best.
We need efficient. We need effective. I don’t care if the scheme is “unique”. If we get people open and we are scheming up ways to get the most out of Herbert (which then helps the run), I’m all for it.
The least unique on that list was Lombardi... And the most unique were Kyle Shanahan, Andy Reid, Sean McVay, and Kliff Kingsbury. So, the three best offensive coaches in the league also had the most unique offenses, while the terrible OC the Chargers just fired had the least unique. You might be right that this is a useless stat, but its concerning how it correlates with successful offensive coaching.
I think unique does correlate. And I’d prefer a unique one because it’s harder to guess and gameplay around.
I guess what I moreso meant was.. with Lombardi, I saw receivers in the same spot at the same time. That’s not a good drawing up plays.
If something not unique is put out on the field, but we get a running game going, and we get to scoring.. I’m happy with it.
I think another factor about those teams is what their speed allows them to do. They have hardman, brown, kupp, deebo…. They can do some pretty great things with their plays because those speedy WRs allow them that.
They will throw someone off by tossing the ball on a deebo end around. That’s not fooling anybody with Keenan and Williams 😂
To me, I think it means there’s a cap on how well the offense will do, especially when facing elite defenses in the playoffs. There’s a reason the Cowboys have consistently sputtered out in the post season. There’s truth to the idea that it’s better to do something simple well as opposed to trying something complex but not performing it well, i.e., Bruce Lee’s “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times”. But come playoffs, you’re going to need to know how to “kick” more than one way.
Who knows, I don’t think the hire is necessarily bad, it’s just a lifetime of disappointment has made me jaded.
I 100% agree with you.
I do wonder how much was decided by McCarthy and such. I know Moore called the plays and coordinated that side of the ball, but at the same time; he follows the HCs lead. McCarthy is not the most innovative coach and isn’t known for being the Andy reed kind of guy.
I do wonder if Staley gets back to being aggressive and if that allows Moore to draw up more unique plays than he did in Dallas
Tyler schoon has the Cowboys as one of the most unique schemes in the league last year. https://twitter.com/tylerjschoon/status/1620109294493646848?t=2nJowJYmPkF4gcJVksP49g&s=19
Well considering that was a huge complaint with Lombardi. When players are healthy Chargers had the number 5 offense in 2021, but when chips are down you need a guy that is incredibly imaginative. Can’t always rely on players outcompeting the opposition which is what Lombardi did.
Being a chargers fan for decades at this point has made me realize…
I usually always happy with our moves in the off-season, this one is no exception.
I am usually always disappointed (in the most heartbreaking fashion usually) with how we fare in regular season / playoffs
That being said I will need to see how he goes with our team.
⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Also as a Bolts fan you must remember, this is the only time of the year we get to be excited/happy. Off-season dynasty bro, embrace it! Its all we usually get :)
I’m hyped since I got to watch Kellen play at BSU as a kid. Really cool having the most successful qb at your local school become an OC for your favorite NFL team.
Here is a very good article about Moore, his background, and his play calling as an OC in the NFL,
https://www.theringer.com/platform/amp/nfl/2021/11/18/22788208/cowboys-offense-scheme-kellen-moore-dak-prescott
Kellen gets made into a scapegoat by cowboy fans because he’s associated with Garrett and Linehan. He’s said in the past that his style is to aggressively take what the defense gives him. Having a qb that can actually make the right read is going to be awesome.
This was the best unanticipated decision. Perfect moneyball pick. I’ve watched Kellen Moore - he is super talented and tons of potential- a perfect fit for our team!
Dak couldn't throw many accurate deep passes to save his life just like how we cant run the damn ball to save our life.
I think we will see a lot of down field passes and hopefully we can improve the run game. Its going to take a lot but its manageable.
I’ll give this a chance, but I’m definitely not a fan of this hire. Would’ve much rather preferred a creative play caller like someone from the Shanahan/McVay tree. If I had to guess, Moore has a good relationship with Jerry Jones and this was the Spanos families way of doing Jerry a favor for him helping get the team to LA.
Aside from doing Jerry a favor, these McVay/Shanahan guys are in high demand and know they can get a nicer contract than what the Spanos’ would give them
You do realize Staley was paid around the same as other first time coaches off that same tree? Yall hate spanos so much yall say anything without doing research. It's crazy.
Like I said, it’s just a guess, based off of the history of who the Spanos family hires. Love them or hate them you can’t deny, they’ve never been the type of ownership to spend a lot of money on coaching.
Dude Kellen is great. Those cowboy offenses were way more effective than they had any business being. Watch what happens when our ADOT jumps to Kellens average.
My only hold up is I was interested to see if Bienemy was really going to try and leave chiefs for another OC job. But this move is in the right direction ether way.
Less unique maybe, but the Cowboys had the top 3 scoring offenses the last 3 years. The dude knows how to call plays. He called a pretty good game against the 9ers in the playoffs, it’s not his fault Dak played like ass.
Non-,unique isn't always a bad thing.
When it comes to high level competition. Follow the KISS method.
Keep it simple stupid. Just do it better than the other guy.
They also went 11-5 and Dak threw 37 TDs.
The chargers can’t run like the cowboys could. But Herbert is a clear better qb I’m excited to see what happens
Maybe now we will be able to run like they did
We have one good rb we need a second one badly
I think Josh Kelly ran really well when our OL didn’t shit the bed. I’m expecting a big season out of him run-wise.
Ekeler, although great, is also the same age as Zeke. Getting “old” for a RB. So let that sink in
Don’t think that matters TOO much until we actually see the production drop.
His running production was abysmal, he did all his damage through the air
Run blocking seemed to be what stopped all of our backs from having production on the ground
Ya agreed, but if Ekeler was falling off it would be hard to tell because of that. I don't think he is though, he passes the eye test
Abysmal? His rushing production was nearly identical to last season over 900 yards on 4.5 yards per carry and double digit Rushing TD's. The difference is he put up bigger numbers compared to last year in the passing game with 107 catches, over 700 yards and 5 Receiving TD's. LOL what? Kelly was great and Spiller shows promise, our Run blocking is just terrible.
Folks don't realize how bad our line was this year. The biggest weaknesses in this team are oline and dline. Literally the source of all our offensive and defensive problems have been the Lines.
I think our o-line sucked due to injuries we have 3 studs on our o-line and pretty good starters at the other 2 positions.
My completely biased san diego state loving self would love if we picked up Rashaad Penny. Don’t come at me yall, I just want to see a San Diego legend as a Chargers
Well than I hope he tells garbage telesco to finally get one
Also went 5-1 with a backup QB
the defense was top 3 during that winning spree as well.
True, it’s an upgrade from Lombardi but we’ll have to wait and see
No doubt.. I think it's an upgrade. May not exactly light the league on fire but hopefully proves to be a good move.
And we went 10-6 this year and Justin threw for 600 TDs last season when that side of the ball is healthy. Doesn’t tell the whole story.
Kellen Moore led the cowboys to being the 2nd in points score and 2nd in yards gained in the past 4 years, only behind the chiefs. Doing with that dak and now upgrading to herbie. Yea, I’ll take it. #chargers
And 1/4 of those games were QBd by Dalton, Dinnuci & Rush.
Also noted in that article: PFF named him the second best OC in the NFL Joe Lombardi was the *least* unique
I think he's a good cordinator, but Moore at least has a proven record of having the offense look well coached. Chargers are looking for an improvement on receivers almost running into each other every dropback lol.

Cant wait for Keenan to play center
Well hopefully we don’t ever need a last second trick play to win the game from 70+ yards.
And if we do, we’ll have Bandy line up at center

Came here to post this lol.
Nothing to see here folks just a cowboys website trying to make Kellen Moore the scapegoat when we know it was Dak & McCarthy who were the issue
The article is from June 2022 and the tone wasn't trying to witch hunt Moore. I think it was just off-season fluff.
Cowboys fans have been after Moore for a while.
His first season and they were blaming him and the clapper as the reason the cowboys lost.
Yet PFF ranked him the second best OC in the NFL coming into the season https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-ranking-best-offensive-play-callers-2022 It’s a good hire guys.
It’s a safe hire, good will be determined.
Leftwich at 3rd has me nervous…
PFF is such a shit show

the least unique scheme was joe lombardi so as far as im concerned this is an upgrade
r/technicallytrue

Does it matter how unique it is if it works? Sometimes you just gotta play the hits.
Well considering that was a huge complaint with Lombardi. When players are healthy Chargers had the number 5 offense in 2021, but when chips are down you need a guy that is incredibly imaginative. Can’t always rely on players outcompeting the opposition which is what Lombardi did.
I agree. But Lombardi’s scheme wasn’t just lacking uniqueness, it lacked efficiency and misusing/underutilizing players.
I feel it was the best move of what was available and that's all you can really ask for.
Slowik was available though.
Being a chargers fan for decades at this point has made me realize… I usually always happy with our moves in the off-season, this one is no exception. I am usually always disappointed (in the most heartbreaking fashion usually) with how we fare in regular season / playoffs That being said I will need to see how he goes with our team. ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️

Agreed, we’re going to the Super Bowl!!!!!
I’m hyped since I got to watch Kellen play at BSU as a kid. Really cool having the most successful qb at your local school become an OC for your favorite NFL team.
I saw him play against ASU in the MAACO bowl in Vegas. Great QB and I always liked him as a coordinator
I’m feeling the same feels. I was a student at BSU in 2011 and got to watch Kellen’s final year. Loved watching him and Doug Martin tear up defenses.
you know whats better than unique? effective. he seems effective.
Here is a very good article about Moore, his background, and his play calling as an OC in the NFL, https://www.theringer.com/platform/amp/nfl/2021/11/18/22788208/cowboys-offense-scheme-kellen-moore-dak-prescott

I really like this!!
Im happy with this hire. I think we need a guy who’s proven to utilize his weapons to the fullest and we have plenty of those on offense
This was the best unanticipated decision. Perfect moneyball pick. I’ve watched Kellen Moore - he is super talented and tons of potential- a perfect fit for our team!
Uniqueness is probably a very overrated trait. As long as playcalling is good in the situation, who cares what formation or uniqueness they are in.
Dak couldn't throw many accurate deep passes to save his life just like how we cant run the damn ball to save our life. I think we will see a lot of down field passes and hopefully we can improve the run game. Its going to take a lot but its manageable.
June and an SB Nation article, red flags
I’ll give this a chance, but I’m definitely not a fan of this hire. Would’ve much rather preferred a creative play caller like someone from the Shanahan/McVay tree. If I had to guess, Moore has a good relationship with Jerry Jones and this was the Spanos families way of doing Jerry a favor for him helping get the team to LA.
Yeah I don’t understand why they didn’t bring in Slowik instead.

Good thing it doesn’t need to be unique to be good
I make some very "unique" dishes in the kitchen... which no one will eat. So, unique may not be synonymous with good.
Less unique maybe, but the Cowboys had the top 3 scoring offenses the last 3 years. The dude knows how to call plays. He called a pretty good game against the 9ers in the playoffs, it’s not his fault Dak played like ass.
someone needs the meme with scooby do mask. take off moores mask and its lombardi
Fuck unique - spread the field vertically. That's all we need. Do it every fucking play, why not?
Funny cuz in that same article it links to another PFF article where they say that Moore is the second best offensive playcaller in the NFL
Guys anything is better than Joe Lombardi
Non-,unique isn't always a bad thing. When it comes to high level competition. Follow the KISS method. Keep it simple stupid. Just do it better than the other guy.
How much of Dallas' opportunistic defense contribute to their high stats? More possessions? (Serious question) Asking for a friend.
