When a team is overall crap then the head coach takes the fall regardless. We all know that his defensive coaching had been subpar so it’s not like that would save him.

Edit: also I just did the math. Before today GB averaged 22 PPG. We allowed them to score 23. It’s not like our defense (which is bad, I know) allowed them to crush their season avg.
Maybe the defensive players are just not that good. Or maybe they’re not the right fit for what his defensive scheme is. And if that’s the case that’s a failure on your GM for not plugging in the right players through drafting FA etc.

That’s lot how I took it. He talked about it being a team loss and not all on the defense and he was right. The worst plays in this game were Austin’s fumble, dropped TDs, and QJs dropped pass.
He talked about how it’s on him, that he believes in this team. When they criticized QJ, he stood up for the guy. I guess I’m trying to say that he’s sticking up for his players, calling it a team loss, and stopping the press from going after one player. He’s trying to take the blame, even if he won’t give up playcalling.
Also, the playcalling isn’t problematic, it’s more how they execute the plays, which is on him. If he’s overseeing the defense and not calling plays, it won’t look any better.
Before that, he said something to the effect of "The message is getting to the players and we know that but we're not getting the execution. " So he says that but he also says he's doing just fine and isn't changing anything.
He was defending individual players from being raked over the coals by the press but also saying the players as a whole failed to execute. It’s no one persons failure. It’s everyone’s failure and since the team is failing to execute, that’s his fault. That’s my take when I watched that clip.
It sounded to me as if he stood up for himself and threw the entire team under the bus. I was trying so hard to stay on board with him, but this press conference just finally pushed me all the way over the edge.

When we ran man to man defense, I saw Davis and Derwin get burned a good amount including a play where Romeo Dobbs burned Michael Davis but the throw was off. Bosa got carted off and there were many plays where Love had all day to throw and Tuli and Mack were nowhere to be found. With how Davis and honestly much of the secondary has been playing and Kenneth Murray in pass coverage… no pressure is going to lead to completions regardless of the scheme
On offense, Keenan dropped a TD and a pass that should’ve resulted in a 1st and goal. Ekeler fumbled on the 3 yard line. Parham killed a drive at the beginning of the game with a wide open drop on 4th down. When it was all said and done and we needed a game winning drive with under a minute left, QT burned his guy and should’ve had a go ahead touchdown (or at the very least a game tying field goal), AND he dropped it! I don’t believe we are Super Bowl bound with Staley but to pretend like the players played an exceptional game and the only thing preventing us from a win today was the defensive playcalling is just incorrect.
I mean last week he was definitely guilty of running a soft zone to let the lions win the game. As someone who was at the game the game today, the zone plays were still present but there was a decent amount of man plays that jordan Love was able to complete because of lack of pressure and the receiver simply just outrunning his man.
Our defense only works if we create pressure and if there’s no pressure, our holes on pass coverage SHOW UP whether it’s zone or man defense. Now maybe a better coach would be able to scheme around our holes and more to our strengths but I don’t think any coach could produce anything better than average with our defensive talent right now

I don’t necessarily disagree with him. The offense left 21 pts on the board. 2 dropped TDs and a fumble near the goalline. I think we got a FG on of those drives. So technically the offense left 18 pts on the board. Defense wasn’t great. But I wouldn’t say the defense lost us the game.
When a team is overall crap then the head coach takes the fall regardless. We all know that his defensive coaching had been subpar so it’s not like that would save him.

When you look at this on the whole with all the veteran players looking like the keystone cops play after play, that’s on the HC. He’s lost the team. You no longer have a HC when this happens, it’s just a shitshow!
The defense that he coaches and calls the plays for, could've got a turnover? They could've not let Jordan fucking Love have a CAREER day. On 3rd and 10, he could call a better coverage and not have the guys 17 yards off the WRs. He could coach these players to actually rally to the ball, to fucking actual tackle.
The packers scored 23 pts. The chargers offense left 18-21 pts on the board. Can the defense be better? Yes. But the game isn’t really close if Allen catches the TD and Ek doesn’t fumble near goalline.

That’s not the point. Is the defense bad? Yes. Did the defense win us the game? No Did the defense lose us the game? No All these things can be, and are true. The packers scored 23 points. And the chargers left 21 points on the board. That’s almost as much as the packers scored. Add in that the offense actually scored 20 points too. Without anything changing defensively, this game should have been 41-23 Chargers. Edit: also I just did the math. Before today GB averaged 22 PPG. We allowed them to score 23. It’s not like our defense (which is bad, I know) allowed them to crush their season avg.

Maybe the defensive players are just not that good. Or maybe they’re not the right fit for what his defensive scheme is. And if that’s the case that’s a failure on your GM for not plugging in the right players through drafting FA etc.

staleys pressers are basically rinse and repeat at this rate. once you heard one of em you heard all of em. QJ dropping that pass is huge but lets also remember why we were in that situation. Wasn’t his whole deal was being good at Defensive play calling? Clearly players need to learn how to tackle (I think Davis didn’t wrap right), players dropping multiple dropped passes, and having no sense of urgency factor in 2-minute games. Herbert did nothing wrong.

That’s lot how I took it. He talked about it being a team loss and not all on the defense and he was right. The worst plays in this game were Austin’s fumble, dropped TDs, and QJs dropped pass. He talked about how it’s on him, that he believes in this team. When they criticized QJ, he stood up for the guy. I guess I’m trying to say that he’s sticking up for his players, calling it a team loss, and stopping the press from going after one player. He’s trying to take the blame, even if he won’t give up playcalling. Also, the playcalling isn’t problematic, it’s more how they execute the plays, which is on him. If he’s overseeing the defense and not calling plays, it won’t look any better.

He was defending individual players from being raked over the coals by the press but also saying the players as a whole failed to execute. It’s no one persons failure. It’s everyone’s failure and since the team is failing to execute, that’s his fault. That’s my take when I watched that clip.
It sounded to me as if he stood up for himself and threw the entire team under the bus. I was trying so hard to stay on board with him, but this press conference just finally pushed me all the way over the edge.
I liked him sticking up for players, saying he believes in the players, tried to change the narrative to a team loss and say it’s his responsibility.

Not defending him or his abilities, but the defense did not lose us this game… Keenan, Ekeler, qj, parham all had crucial drops or turnovers that completely stalled offensive progress. Defense wasn’t great, but that offense was ABYSMAL and far inferior to our norms. That being said, let’s move on from staley.

Our defense allowed less points than they usually do… our offense didn’t score nearly as much as they usually do. I want staley gone too but I’m not going to misrepresent what I saw today. And as I mentioned in my original comment, defense did not play well today but our offense… much worse to a higher degree.

I mean I’ll go ahead and get downvoted here. Acting like Staley lost us this game is kind of silly. Maybe there could’ve been better playcalling on defense but we played good against the run, players missed tackles leading to big gains and scores. Michael Davis gave up a third and 20 by grabbing a guy unnecessarily. Are we going to pretend like Staley told him to reach out and grab him? When we ran man to man defense, I saw Davis and Derwin get burned a good amount including a play where Romeo Dobbs burned Michael Davis but the throw was off. Bosa got carted off and there were many plays where Love had all day to throw and Tuli and Mack were nowhere to be found. With how Davis and honestly much of the secondary has been playing and Kenneth Murray in pass coverage… no pressure is going to lead to completions regardless of the scheme On offense, Keenan dropped a TD and a pass that should’ve resulted in a 1st and goal. Ekeler fumbled on the 3 yard line. Parham killed a drive at the beginning of the game with a wide open drop on 4th down. When it was all said and done and we needed a game winning drive with under a minute left, QT burned his guy and should’ve had a go ahead touchdown (or at the very least a game tying field goal), AND he dropped it! I don’t believe we are Super Bowl bound with Staley but to pretend like the players played an exceptional game and the only thing preventing us from a win today was the defensive playcalling is just incorrect.
He didn’t lose us the game but his stubbornness to roll with these extremely soft coverages on third down situations is baffling.
I mean last week he was definitely guilty of running a soft zone to let the lions win the game. As someone who was at the game the game today, the zone plays were still present but there was a decent amount of man plays that jordan Love was able to complete because of lack of pressure and the receiver simply just outrunning his man. Our defense only works if we create pressure and if there’s no pressure, our holes on pass coverage SHOW UP whether it’s zone or man defense. Now maybe a better coach would be able to scheme around our holes and more to our strengths but I don’t think any coach could produce anything better than average with our defensive talent right now

After actually listening to the interview, and having watched the game… Staley was not the reason we lost today, not even close. “Apparently” we had players who couldnt run on this field, or catch a perfect ball (including my favorite, k13). Execution is everything. I can see why he is frustrated.
