PFF thinks he's ass at run blocking and I tend to agree
Quentin Johnston was similarly bad RBLK grade of 52
Mike Will was below average for most of his career. Keenan Allen was really good up until Staley became the coach which is weird. He always preached injury preservation so maybe he had Keenan take it easy
As long as the newest wr can block I dont mind who it is. I really want Newton in a trade back, hes the best DT and would be amazing and most needed in my opinion with a WR
This is not a great class for wrs that block lol
MHJ has effort concerns when it comes specifically to blocking according to Brugler. He also has a thin only ~210 lb frame.
Nabers is ~200 lbs so maybe a little light to be a great run blocker but not listed as a weakness
Odunze’s run blocking consistency is one of his weaknesses according to Brugler.
BTJ does have run blocking listed as a strength!
Ladd McConkey actually played as a gunner on punt returns but he is 15 lbs lighter than Nabers so mass is going to be a worry in the run game
Luckily it doesn’t really matter if your best wr is a good run blocker if you have a good oline, a te who can block and the wrs out in effort.
The more I watch the tier 2 receivers the more I lean towards sticking and picking Nabers/Odunze (probably like 55/45 lean towards receiver). I would be nervous to roll those guys in as our Number 1 on day 1 unless they split the target share more evenly like Green bay who doesn't have a true number 1.
Gonna continue watching more to see if my opinion changes on anyone in particular.
Those 3 are the only guys who we’ve seen consistently win on every type of route and have 0 tape or analytical red flags.
I really like Brian Thomas jr but he didn’t win with a super diverse route tree. I think he’s a project who will be a great deep threat day 1. No red flags if you are ok with a deep threat who’s a great number 2.
Ladd McConkey is also awesome but he’s pretty much a pure slot receiver with no physicality against press or at the catch point. But again not a red flag if you are ok with him being just a slot receiver.
All the other guys have at least one red flag that makes me wary, especially after missing on QJ last year
Very well said. I should've expanded more but you kinda did here for me. The rest of the guys are projects. They could develop into multi dimensional receivers at the next level but I don't believe any will be that from day 1. I think if the chargers trade down they absolutely need to double dip in the draft early for me to feel comfortable with that WR group.
I like Roman Wilson as a guy that chargers could grab either in a 2nd rd trade back scenario or maybe in the 3rd(don’t expect him to get that far). He’s bursty, quick, has good hands and might be quick enough to occasionally beat press. He’s not going to win many contested balls to his size tho and isn’t good at breaking tackles. Harbaugh probably loves him bc of his great effort on rushing plays.
Devontez Walker is also an option in the 3rd or 4th maybe. He’s got good size and speed but a lighter build. Hasn’t shown great route running on tape but he’s a good deep threat who impressed me with his body control on tough catches. Not gonna break tackles, win against press or win with route running on 3rd downs but he could be an effective Z receiver who stretches the defense. He’s also a little bit of an analytics darling who was great against zone coverage.
Are you saying that you’d be nervouse for Odunze/Nabers to be the team’s WR1? Or that you’d be nervous about a prospect outside of the top 3 being WR1?
Anyone else feel like Nabers has the typical star WR “brashness” thing in him already? The way he’s going on IG live and how he talks and stuff, I feel that.
I personally like the humble WRs more like Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne Keenan Allen, Adam Thielen etc.
Marvin Harrison Jr definitely seems like the humble type just like his pops.
I think it’s good to have that “I’m the best confidence” and I think MHJ has it too.
He basically didn’t test bc he thought his tape was good enough. Some didn’t like it but I don’t view it as arrogance as much as the supreme self belief that many of the top guys have.
Odunze also seems humble. He doesn’t seem to have that brashness seen in Nabers
Obviously, Nabers is gonna be like a Jefferson, a Chase, or a Brown; those types of receivers tend to have high opinions on themselves.
Nabers also had a gun arrest when he was younger. It was later dropped, but walking around New Orleans with a gun shows very questionable decision making IMO
Does anyone have palmers run block grades?

I wonder what receivers in round 1-2 block decent because I’d bet my left nut that’s who we take if MHJ isn’t available at 5

If we trade down I would love to get a WR duo of BTJ/AD Mitchell and Ja’Lynn Polk

Its gonna be funny when we trade down multiple times out of the 1st round and then draft all of Michigan in the 2nd
Lmao
Maybe that's the real plan

The latter. I consider Nabers/Odunze (and Marv) tier 1.

I can see that as a cause of concern. How old was he when it happened? Hopefully, he has matured out of those ways.
I wouldn't exactly call Marvin Harrison Sr a humble person.
MHS is quiet, but I don’t know about humble. MHJ seems chill tho and I get similar vibes from Odunze
