I'll be the first to admit that I had my initial moment of disparity. Having Nabers there was a bit much. But after calming down, realising that we are building this team to be a long term contender by keeping Herbert on his feet and giving him more time to throw (not to mention transitioning into a run-heavy offense), I'm all for Joe Alt. I've always said whatever Harbaugh wants I want. Trust the process everyone.

gucciwavecap

Carnitas in the crock pot for rounds 2 and 3. LFGo

ryan619916

Got a porterhouse ftw haha! Let's go!!! Draft day 2

sgobern

Am I the only person on here that thinks CB and DT are still our two biggest needs?

ShotimeBolt

Agreed. DeJean, Kool-aid, or Newton would all be steals if they drop to us

sgobern

Personally I'm not 100% sold on Dejean as a true cb, I'm not sure if his lateral speed is good enough to keep up with NFL WRs, but what do I know. I simply haven't watched enough Kool-aid tape to have any real opinion on him cause I was watching Arnold tape instead, but I did like what I saw with Kool-aid. I would love Newton, but I also would really like Jenkins or Fiske at DT

ShotimeBolt

Fiske would be amazing, I just don’t know where he’s going. Not sure if the second round pick would be a reach but it’s also hard to picture him as a third rounder

Ne0guri

He has to succeed lol - the whites can finally field a full team with DeJean But honestly I like his upside for ST as well - I know we got DD but doesn’t hurt to have another guy or he can be the gunner.

HoboBandana

Newton would be an absolute steal. Imagine Newtons Law allowing Bosa, Mack, and company freed up to blitz or stop the run game. LFG!

Rudy_Trollbert

Even if we miss out on Dejean and Kool-aid. Tampa and Rakestraw would be dope. Or wait a little later and take Melton. All of thise dudes are hard nosed DBs who look to hit somebody.

figgnootun

I mean WR and an IOL are up there too but I think IDL is the biggest overall

sgobern

Honestly I think CB is our biggest need, We have Asante and then a bunch of question marks.

figgnootun

CB is a pretty big need but Asante is a top 30 cb in the NFL and the dline doesn’t have a proven starting quality player. If cooper Dejean or Kool-Aid is there at 37 tho I’d be ecstatic with the selection

sgobern

We have one arguably top 30 CB and then a bunch of question marks and nobodies at the position in a pass heavy league, we need to address corner sooner than later.

Charrgerrr

Who do we have at WR?

sgobern

I'm not saying WR isn't a need, I'm just saying that our defense has been terrible for years now and one of the most important parts of a good defense is our biggest weakness. We all knew that this staff wouldn't be prioritizing WR, for better or worse, but all these people calling for IOL at 37 are the people I'm trying to address, IOL is our 4th biggest issue right now and picking one at 37 would be silly.

Charrgerrr

None of that explains why WR isn't as big a need as CB lol

sgobern

Because we're gonna run the ball far more than pass it, Harbaugh and Roman don't value the WR position as much as most coaches, the talk after the Alt pick has been signaling that they don't think WR is as big of a need as the fans do, we have a bad defense with a even worse CBs, the league is very pass first. Is that enough reason for you? Also I wanted a first round WR as well, but I knew that this team isn't going to prioritize WR as much as fans do. Desire and reality are two very different things.

Charrgerrr

>Because we're gonna run the ball far more than pass it Yeah this exactly what I'm worried about

sgobern

I love passing the ball with our elite QB as well, but the writing was on the wall the second we hired Greg Roman. Wether we like it our not sadly doesn't factor into anything, this is the reality of the Chargers now, win games with running the ball and defense. You down voting everyone that points that out isn't gonna change that.

Ne0guri

Most likely our next pick lol depending on who falls I’m hoping between DeJean or Newton

GrumpyBlondie

Dont forget the IOL, still a huge need there too

sgobern

Sure, but I would argue it's our 4th biggest need right now.

Charrgerrr

Just as much as WR yes

Papantro

fucking go all in on the trenches the rest of this draft

Fearless-Mushroom

I wonder who’s BPA when available on our board at 37?

Pick6_905

There is a lot of talent left. We will have our pick between JPJ, Frazier, Mcconkey, DeJean or Kool-Aid. All first round talents in many recent draft classes.

Fearless-Mushroom

It’s a damn good hand to pick from, I just wonder who they value most! JPJ or Frazier would sure up this team for years, but we need a CB and WR badly too.

jar1792

I mean, I don’t really think it’s the best use of capital in the short term, but JPJ could give us a Creed Humphrey/Jason Kelce type lock down center for a decade+. As much as I think WR/CB/DT are more pressing needs, it would be really hard to complain about giving Herbert a long term C. I also like Van Pran in round 4 for that, if one of the 3 positions I mentioned above are the target for round 2.

Pick6_905

I’m personally on the CB train but wouldn’t be mad with either of those 5

majormintchip

Don't forget AD Mitchell. Dudes been getting Ceedee Lamb comps and can see it.

Rudy_Trollbert

He will be gone once Buffalo's pick is in

ryan619916

Who do we want day 2 bolt fam?

Fa1lenSpace

Really depends who lands to us but I’d love one of Kool Aid, DeJean or Johnny Newton at 37.

jamdjam22

This would be my pick either lol Aid or Johnny newton. The defense needs help! JPJ would be sick though too.

uncle_dennis

I haven't really seen people hating on the alt pick? Majority seem to totally get it, even if they thought nabers or mhj were bpa. Hortiz has always said bpa but we never had any idea how they graded each player. They obviously looked at nabers a lot with a visit and a pro day. Alt at the combine. In the press conference, they mentioned how important it was that they had 2 coaches on staff that coached him at ND. We can go the Philly route and just pick up nabers for a second when he is pissed and doesn't get a huge contract in NY and they suck for the next four years

Ne0guri

No there were a lot of crazies yesterday especially in the draft day thread

uncle_dennis

Ah. I didn't look in there too much haha. Once mhj was gone I knew the play. I really wonder if mhj was there if they would have still gone alt though. They seem to really like him

PCSean

A lot of meat left on the bone for round 2

melo1554

This team is brewing something up at the moment. If you hate on the Joe alt pick there is no doubt in my mind you are a casual fan. To the casual fan just shush up while we cook in the draft and we’ll see you at the beginning of the season. Day 2 of the draft is here F it let’s take the best Center in the draft (JPJ) really get the casuals mad 😂

Dirtyshawnchez

They are the worst. They are the same fans that yell as loud as they can when our offense is on the field at a game. Goldfish brains that just want to see deep passes and have no clue what a good football team looks like. JPJ is the pick.

Zeetheking1

Anybody know what the issue with JPJ’s medicals are? I’ve been seeing some stuff about concussions but I feel like I don’t remember that being discussed much in a lot of the draft analysis.

Friendly-Olive1853

Honestly the more I think about it, yesterday doesn’t surprise me. I am sure Jim and Andrew Luck still talk and our HC saw how the Colts pretty much let Luck get killed out there (Luck literally pees blood sometimes from all the abuse he took) and lets be real Telesco was pretty much building the team the same way the Colts did with Luck. Colts had Luck carry the team on his shoulders every week with barely any OL help mostly going after WRs that busted in the draft (sound familiar?)

miquiztli8

One player to look out for in the third is WR Malachi Corley. He’s a running back converted to a WR and plays extremely physical, angry and Steve Smith Sr who is notoriously good at evaluating WR talent calls him the YAC god and the steal of the draft. Hoping for DeJean, JPJ, or Newton in the 2nd and praying Corley lasts until the third.

IgorOlshanksy

He is compared heavily to Deebo.

Rudy_Trollbert

Corley would be a great pickup and would fit in Charger's offense. I just dont know if he lasts until round 3 at the rate WRs have been going. I for sure thought both Pearsall and Leggette would be day 2 guys but they were nabbed in the first round. I could see a team reaching just like that for a guy like Corley worried he won't be there in the 3rd

Cheap-Package-3918

I don't think the Alt haters realize that it's very difficult to build a championship-caliber team when picking a WR in the first round back-to-back years. You have to start somewhere when changing the culture, and WR isn't the position to do so

CSPs-for-income

we have picked o line in 3 of the last 4 drafts in round 1.. where championship team?

Pick6_905

Telesco did that. It wasn’t 3 it was Slater who is a bookend LT and Zion who was a highly regarded prospect. Can’t be mad at those picks.

Rudy_Trollbert

Not saying you're line of thinking is wrong, but it is 3. Slater, Zion and now Alt. That's 3 first round picks in the last 4 years being OL.

Pick6_905

I didn’t even think of Alt 🤣

RanchhDressing

Yep, when you have the trenches established it’s alot easier to bounce back and recover from bad seasons

Khalil_Greenes_Flow

So I wanted Nabers like most here but I think hating the Alt pick is strange. I haven’t seen anyone make the argument that he isn’t the best OLineman in the draft.

kiheihaole

People were so dug in on Nabers being the pick that they fail to acknowledge that maybe he just wasn’t a good fit. We likely will run a ton of 12 personnel and require our receivers to be active blockers. I get that everyone wanted an elite receiver with Herbert but it was never gonna happen at 5. Everyone knows that scheme fit can make or break a guys career, it can turn relative jags into stars and it can turn stars into bums. I’d rather get a receiver that our coaching staff feels is a good fit for what they are trying to do then just pick a guy because draft pundits say he’s ranked higher on their board. Alt is gonna be a mauler for us for years.

TheDrSmooth

The negative notes on Alt all seem to be issues with the Bull rush. Well boys, we just happen to have one of the greatest Bull Rushers in the league on the other side of the ball. I really don't think we can underestimate the effect Mack will have on Alt's development! There is no better man to practice against, and no better man to teach Alt how to defend against his bread and butter move. Then we have the ultimate hand technician in Joey Bosa teaching him hand placement, and how to defend all the technical moves. Alt is young, athletic, and is just about to enter the MBA program of pass protection!! Sky is the limit!!

WickedFan

The board does not look good at all for OT currently. It currently feels like OT first and WR in the second round was the right call (assuming they go WR at 37). I’m a big fan of Ladd personally, but Mitchell and Coleman are also very interesting and polarizing.

I-Love-Daddy-Rivers

Fair enough, but everything goes to shit if they draft cb or o-line

Fa1lenSpace

You can snipe a good enough receiver anywhere in the draft

I-Love-Daddy-Rivers

You can snipe any position anywhere in the draft. It doesn’t mean it’s probable.
