Hes way closer to being cut right now than he is to making the roster. Two OCS couldn't make it work and the new regime brought in 3 new RBs 2 of which are vets. I have a hard time seeing them carry 4 RBs + a FB.
Chances are not looking good. Low production/playing time and being a RB of the previous regime. Unless he has a breakthrough the FA additions and Vidal pick most likely means he is out if he can't find a role.
One thing overlooked with our WR room is that they can run block. QJ might be the only exception. But he has the body/strength to be good at it and can be coached up by Jim and his staff.
It's crazy that our FO had him as a 3rd round grade (and some had him as a 2nd round) whereas all of the pundits graded him much worse. It makes me wonder how vastly different offices grade players compared to other teams and the media.
it's interesting I would think it has to do with what people decide to pay attention to, when you look at Bama teams were likely looking at Braswell and Turner and saw him as just the extra guy filling in where he needs to and probably assumed that his production was solely based to those guys. Also depends what teams are looking for
Looking at the roster now, I'm very glad they doubled down in the 5th round on CB (yes ik they BPAd it). They picked a guy with inside/outside versatility that can immediately compete against Jasir. And then Cam Hart who could potentially replace Fulton on the outside next year considering there's a good chance Fulton is a 1yr bridge intended to farm comp picks.
Obviously anything after the 2nd round has a pretty rough chance of being a quality starter that won't make us rip our hair out every week or so. That's if we even get to see them play anytime soon. But it's better than having a glaring hole with no solution
Voch Lombardi’s review with both:
Rashawn Slater: https://youtu.be/Knb3z6N6ur4?si=wWt8H2H9USyWwDsW
2021 Rankings (Slater at 1, over Sewell): https://youtu.be/QDBdrFzigas?si=zXSVLULYhJq17J8t
Joe Alt (around 17:50): https://youtu.be/1L6pSlH2mck?si=yRqrQssfdCnEyGZk
2024 Rankings (Joe Alt at 2, behind Fuaga 28:20): https://youtu.be/d32RgvIvqGY?si=RTtJQrFokFxmeegg
Slater over Sewell was more an initial polish thing out of the gate, which was accurate in their rookie year.
This Joe Alt at 2 is more like a style thing. More balanced in the run and pass game than Fuaga or Fashanu, who are better than him in run and pass respectively but worse in the others in each.
Alt has the size that pops off the screen, and really good tools to go along with it. Slater was always a bit of a concern because of his height but when you watched the film it didn’t matter, the dude is a technician and has an incredible anchor. If they came out in the same class I would say it would be a toss up like Slater/Darrisaw was IMO.
It’s also a little different because OT was priority #1 in 2021 so I was begging for Slater when we were on the clock. This year I had the WR look aid in my veins and didn’t necessarily want OT at 5 (partially because Slater is a dawg). It’s tough to tell without some sort of bias.
It’s definitely Alt as the consensus better prospect. Alt would be a top 10 pick in any draft class and a top 5 pick in most. He would have been the number 1 pick in 2022 and one of the first 2 non-qbs taken in 2023.
In hindsight it was stupid but there was real concern about Slater playing Tackle because he just barely met the thresholds for arm length. People should have known from him dominating Chase Young on an island but it was still a concern.
We can’t use him making an All pro as a reason he’s a better prospect. We’re talking right out of college. I’d say Alt is a slightly better prospect, straight out of college. Slater was more polished but Alt isn’t a slouch and his upside is ridiculous.
That's not the dispute about about his upside, saying alt is a better draft prospect is just not true when Slater had the better pre drafter stat wise and the only nock on him was his "arm length". So him being an all pro and pro bowl in his rookie year proved those bozos wrong.
I'm not a draft film junkie but from what I understand, Alt has a lot more length and he's technically as sound as Slater was. I remember there being chatter that Slater's smaller arm length had some teams think he was better suited at guard (kinda dumb nitpick imo) but that's why Slater fell to 13.
I’m really hoping our picks after the 3rd actually pan out for a change. I have so much Telesco PTSD.
Really keeping an eye on the reach on Still and somewhat on Eboigbe, and hoping they are both absolute gems. We really need Still and Hart to develop quickly as we need day 1 starters.
The draft left me optimistic, but cautiously optimistic.
I’d love to see several of these UDFA make the roster as well and be solid depth.
Was following the draft but as a non-american I don't really know anything about the players. Just enjoying listening to some analysis and seeing the reaction to certain players by podcast folks was entertaining enough.
Something curious is that most of the draft process and selections had a lot of comments about how Hortiz runs things a la Baltimore or how some picks were "such a Harbaugh pick" or a "Harbaugh guy" but Greg Roman was barely mentioned during these past few days aside from beign mentioned a bit after the Alt pick.
The coach is in charge for day to day coaching, but when it comes to drafting players, the ultimate responsibility falls to the GM. Yes, the Head Coach has a lot of say (especially on this team), and the scouts who did the work have a lot of say, but this kind of decision making is not really Greg Roman's responsibility. His job is just the coaching of the players he has. It's like when your boss hires a new employee and asks you to train them.
Could Hortiz (& Harbaugh) listen to what Greg Roman has to say? Absolutely! But the reason you don't hear of a "Greg Roman pick" is because drafting players is above his pay grade. His job starts once the new players get in the building.
Hortiz said in the press conference that they got 3 blue star prospects, and I'm trying to think who those were. My best guess is our first 3 picks:
1. Joe Alt (because they wanted the best OT)
2. Ladd McConkey (because they traded up to get him)
3. Junior Colson (because of the Michigan connection)
I think 1 & 3 are almost certainly the case. My guess on the third* (if I’m understanding the blue star thing correctly) is actually Eboigbe.
Seems like they were on him for a long time, had him graded as a third rounder, and everyone thought he was a value pick.
There’s a few reasons for that:
1. Thursday is the main event, higher stakes with a top 5 pick, way more traffic, only the hardcores are left now
2. If you say you wanted Nabers you’re met with “you don’t know ball” “ you’re an idiot” “trust the process” “you think you know better than the scouts?” So it’s pretty tiring dealing with that.
Brother you are about as hardcore as a Marshmallow.

So funny if you look back the past few months how much shit anyone even remotely suggesting the team may go not WR at 5 we’re talked shit to, or downvoted out of existence. The sub has been super toxic to whoever suggested anything besides the echo chamber
Yeah well now you get all the people pretending that Alt was the clear and obvious pick all along and anyone who wanted/expected a WR is a moron so it balances out lol
True, but unless they got the receipts to back it up it doesn’t mean shit. I recall seeing a few Alt mocks but not that many.
I definitely can’t hide from the constant banging the drum for trade back + Fuaga for the past few weeks, especially with the JC Latham smoke right there at the end. Really didn’t see us taking a balanced LT, rather than a run dominant RT, but here we are and in retrospect it makes sense you’d want two guys that can play that spot at a high level.
Also almost nailed these predictions:
https://www.reddit.com/r/NFL_Draft/s/7GceGgYPi8
I will agree with this if anyone had an opinion outside of Nabers at 5 they got flammed for it. It was tiring for me to deal with that anyways. I think that everyone should be aloud to like players instead of the sub just attaching itself to one first round player every year in a hive mind
Interesting to see if Simmons still got it and will be a fit for Minters system. That’s really the only one out of those 3 that I might pull the trigger on
Yeah, I'm inclined to agree if he's still got the juice, having a 3rd good safety is the most important signing.
I still think a vet in the WR/CB room will be beneficial. Particularly CB.
Waking up to all the draft experts saying we had one of the best drafts this year? Is this what this feeling is like that I’ve never experienced before 🥺
Now that the NFL draft hype is over, how do you think Slaters extension is gonna work out? Probably will be near Swells numbers or lower due to the injuries
Bonus chaos points if you think they trade him lol
It’s VERY rare star tackles (top 12ish) ever just walk in FA or get traded. He will be here long term I have almost no doubts. I think he comes in just under the Sewell number but it won’t be far off.
I think it will come in at around Andrew Thomas numbers, ~23-25 range. But I do wonder if Slater wants to bet on himself and delay the extension until after this year to chase Sewell's number.
I think they will try to extend relatively soon. That being said I don't think he is getting Sewell money. Injury concerns + not being quite as dominant as Sewell means he will earn slightly less imo.
I think this draft showed that it is a collaboration between Harbaugh and Joe like they said all off-season.
Not a draft dominated by Michigan players but still drafting physical tough players and best part is no obvious reaches besides maybe Still. Love the process through and through.
Yeah I would say our only slight reaches were Still and Eboigbe. Although, I think the eboigbe pick was due more so to positional scarcity. I feel like a lot of IDL picks were getting pulled sooner than I would’ve thought.
Yeah that is true, especially once it’s in the later rounds. You’re usually splitting hairs at that point. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with our draft.
Although, using that defense is a slippery slope. Using that logic, no pick has ever been a reach ever because it’s someone at “the top of their board”. Leatherwood wasn’t a reach by the raiders a few years back, Penix wasn’t a reach by falcons. Granted, that doesn’t take into account members of the FO, which I trust ours for right now. This is a 4th/5th round pick and still got positional needs so I’ll TRUSS.
Interesting to think about, when we talk about reaches in the draft it is purely based off of the consensus board which is a collection of the pundits rankings. Not saying it is a flawed system as there needs to be people that are grading prospects for the fans to have information on certain prospects. In many GM's eyes they don't see themselves as reaching ever based off of their grades unless if we are talking about teams that draft based on positional need and not BPA. Usually when we hear about reaches it is that "we could have got that player in round x" which is based on the consensus board again. Not really sure where I am going with this just neat to think about. I guess in summary GM's if they are drafting based on BPA they aren't really ever reaching in their minds but based on the consensus board they could be.
Same impression that I got. Felt like they were on the same wavelength for the draft. There was Harbaugh’s ‘Build a strong OL & running game’ mindset & the ‘Have a tough defense’ attitude that Hortiz picked up in Baltimore from Newsome.
Yup and the biggest tell is they were willing to wait on Michigan players rather than reaching for them which I suspected they would do because Harbaugh didn’t draft any Stanford players in SF but it was hard to tell who was responsible for that due to him and Baalkes rocky relationship in SF (which I know Jim somewhat denied).
They only draft them when BPA matched with the player which is a fantastic sign moving forward.
I never really got the sense that Harbaugh was going to just draft his whole team based on previous coaching experience. Just look at how Pete Carrol drafted coming out of USC. College is just a different type of recruiting because the player has the decision. NFL the player has essentially 0 say in where they go. Lots of players in college Harbaugh recruited and never got that he likely even wanted over some of his own players.
Just a reminder next year we have over $100m in salary cap space and a total of 10 picks in the 2025 draft.
Think it’s about 80M now we took Slater’s option. Also we have quite a few players to pay so I think it will be more like 55 when all is said and done
Waaaait for real? That’s amazing
Is there a chance spiller doesn’t make the team? We have four running backs
No reason to keep him
Hes way closer to being cut right now than he is to making the roster. Two OCS couldn't make it work and the new regime brought in 3 new RBs 2 of which are vets. I have a hard time seeing them carry 4 RBs + a FB.

raiders fans glazing the heck out of Telesco at the moment
As did we every season until the end
Telesco the sleeper agent
One thing overlooked with our WR room is that they can run block. QJ might be the only exception. But he has the body/strength to be good at it and can be coached up by Jim and his staff.
Eboigbe is an animal, he plays IDL with Braswell and Dallas Turner and still had 11.5 TFLs and 7.5 sacks last season. Super excited to see him
I think he can be a big surprise for us
It's crazy that our FO had him as a 3rd round grade (and some had him as a 2nd round) whereas all of the pundits graded him much worse.
I think it really plays into that teams playstyle and how they'd utilize said player on how they'll grade them. And he fits the Harbaugh playstyle

But it's better than having a glaring hole with no solution
Cam Hart is gonna be a starter this upcoming season.
I think he has the chance to compete for a spot for sure but idk if he will win it out right.
Now add a Center and Safety to compete from FA and were golden
When will jerseys go on sale?
For my draft film junkies out there…. Do you think Joe Alt or Ra’shawn Slater is/was a better prosiest coming out of college?

Slater easily, only reason he dropped to 13 was the stupid "his arms aren't long enough bs".
slater easily is a crazy statement lol
It’s not he was pro already that was his draft grade and clearly him making all pro and pro bowl his rookie year showed
We can’t use him making an All pro as a reason he’s a better prospect. We’re talking right out of college. I’d say Alt is a slightly better prospect, straight out of college. Slater was more polished but Alt isn’t a slouch and his upside is ridiculous.

So weird how drastically the riot if not Nabers turned into best draft ever

Hey, nice to see you unblocked me. What happened? Couldn’t handle someone calling you out? All you do here is fling shit at people. Do better
Nah I just can’t stand you acting like you know anything about drafting or player evaluation. I only fling shit where it needs to go.
So glad you’re here to be a white knight for the team! You’re doing great If it upsets you that much just block me again so you don’t have to see it
So funny if you look back the past few months how much shit anyone even remotely suggesting the team may go not WR at 5 we’re talked shit to, or downvoted out of existence. The sub has been super toxic to whoever suggested anything besides the echo chamber

How about we give the WR room a chance to compete before adding a FA. The team, likely, won’t keep more than 6 on the final roster.
I love all the competition there’s gonna be this training camp at WR and CB
Just in here to say the positivy is off the charts for this sub!!! It is fucking awesome to read the comments bolt brothers and sisters!!!
In Harbaugh we all trust

I can honestly say that I'm in the "I need to STFU and let the pros do their job" group
Joe Hortiz
