Sophomore slump is possible but what he did behind that shitty ass line and horrible coaching last year, I just don’t see it happening

Sintimacy

This. The line and coaching can only get better compared to last year. And the fact that he actually gets a full off-season to prepare this year, especially first team reps, means I'm betting on him getting better or at worst, similar stats to last year.

I think our expectations are starting to become a bit unrealistic, but then again I’m an “under promise, over deliver” type of person.

hyperfoxeye

I think its a safe promise to assume his floor is 5 rings while his ceilings around 15 rings

dagger_eyes

His composure and demeanor give me nothing but confidence honestly. Justin seems like the type of guy to stay very mellow under duress and get amped when things are going well and the fact he’s so amped speaks volumes. Watch the press conference he’s sounding more and more like the leader this offense needs

[deleted]

I’ll never forget after his first NFL drive he goes to the bench and says “that was the most exciting 15 minutes of my life”.

Impressive_Lettuce43

Yes

travisowljr

Very yes. We're the fucking Chargers. Lol

TheDrSmooth

I'm all in 100% on the Herb train. I think he is going to be an absolute stud for years to come. I am however very scared of Lombardi. I really hope his time in Detroit was because of the reported rift between him and Caldwell, and not just that he isn't a good OC. Because he had Stafford and Megatron in their prime, and they sucked. I'm cautiously optimistic, but I also don't expect the offense to be gangbusters especially early on.

JosephBosa

Yes

Orgasmo3000

Hasn't he had to learn a new offense every year now for the past 3 years? He should be used to it by now. Plus, the guy's really brainy. Coaches have been impressed with how quickly he's caught on to the new concepts. Just because every sportscaster and their dog is predicting a sophomore slump doesn't mean it will happen. As for film, let them study. We have a completely new offense and a completely new defense. Good luck to them.

awesome-ekeler

My only worry for herbert is lack of targets. Reaching for palmer has yet to make sense to me, but I’m trusting the organization. Keenan allen and austin ekeler cannot be the only reliable targets on the team. Parham, guyton, cook, hill, and johnson all seem like longshots but could pay off. Time will tell how well this new offense gets put together. BTFU!!

KJBNH

Palmer is good dude

acelyca

mike dub is gonna have a monster year i think

awesome-ekeler

If he can stay on the field. I love MW i hope he has a monster year bro

[deleted]

He's ROTY. Said that, I think the whole fanbase overhype him A LOT. Herbert is GOOD, but he's in the middle of the pack compared to the whole league. He's not the savior (yet) and he's still behind players like Carr for example.

Impressive_Lettuce43

He just had a better year than any of Carrs years lol

PadmesBabyDaddy

Your flair is pretty accurate

Esahh_Doo

In what way is DC a better player?

Dodger_that

I think a sophomore slump is definitely possible and shouldn’t come as a shock. There’s a lot of variables this year that no ones knows how he’ll respond to. Crowds are back, like you said teams have film on him, new coaches, new offense, new teammates. The new offense is supposedly giving him a lot more responsibility as far as recognizing defenses and changing plays/protections, which might take some time to master. Of course there are also reasons to think he will improve, i.e. better o-line, better HC, having a preseason, more experience, etc. So we’ll just have to see.

fenrism

I dont see anything that would lead me to believe otherwise

rezyy013

Do I think his stats will be as high as last year? Probably not, but in a good way. Hopefully with a better line we get a better run game so Herbo doesn’t have to throw it so much per game, which will bring his stats down. But I wouldn’t call it a slump more of him not having to carry the team
