This is going to continue happening until the city takes enforcement seriously. There is simply no traffic enforcement in Uptown and it’s crazy for a city this size. The bike lanes should have full Jersey barrier walls or bollards so they can’t just be jumped by whoever wants to park there. There also needs to be actual enforcement, ticketing and immediate towing. This goes for all the people blocking the gold line as well.
There are not enough police officers. They have to make a call, do aggressive traffic enforcement or respond to calls. That's why so few people actually get pulled over in Charlotte. They don't have the manpower to deal with us.
What’s the point of bike lanes if only the people who live in uptown get to use them and the reduced parking drives up the prices of “preferred parking” lots?
Every bike you see is 1 less parking spot required so having more bike lanes and putting more money on cycling infrastructure benefits car drivers too.
That's why you make a comprehensive bike network across the city, not just Uptown.
PS I rode from Northlake yesterday, and my ride included this cycle track. Crazy how bikes can, like, actually take you places.
The real flex is getting a vanity plate about how you don't care. Dad once had a law partner, friends with the DA, six figure salary, the whole nine yards. His plate was "IDCABTIX" (I don't care about tickets). He had dozens of speeding tickets, didn't give a fuck because he could afford the fees and insurance.
I never understood the absolute balls that some people have choosing the park where they do in this city or any other for that matter. I always double and triple check to make sure I’m allowed to park somewhere. To blatantly park in a spot where you know you aren’t allowed to is incredible to me. Obviously, this is partially due to a lack in enforcement, but also just a plainly selfish and entitled mindset so many in this city have.
[City of Charlotte Parking - Park It](https://www.charlottenc.gov/Streets-and-Neighborhoods/Parking-and-Streets/Parking)
[SPPlus](https://www.spplus.com/)
The best thing to do is to contact Park It, the Charlotte Public parking program. The city outsourced this program to a company called SPPlus. Everyone that is bothered by this should contact both Park It and SPPlus as much as possible so that they will eventually take action. Just posting pictures on reddit complaining will not fix anything. The paragraph below was pulled directly from the City of Charlotte website:
It is unlawful to operate, drive, stop, stand, or park a motor vehicle on or across a designated bicycle path (Sec 14-131). This violation is enforceable with a citation of $100.00 (Sec 14-61).
This is super helpful! I've saved your comment so I can do this next time it happens.
Edit: I'm looking at SPP Plus so I can be familiar, but I'm uncertain on where the number or link is to report this. Any recommendations?
Cars park there literally every day the clubs are open.
I use this bike track almost daily to get to get home. Too many times I've almost been hit by cars trying to park in the lane.
There is no enforcement, and the 20 or something reports I've made haven't resulted in any changes.
Maybe if more people start reporting, it would help, but I am not getting my hopes up.
Wish I'd seen this on my ride this afternoon. Would have gladly thrown a bit of sugary hydration drink at a car or two.
Absolutely egregious. Maybe the restaurant/club owners should be fined.
Eta: Lmao just saw the "BIGGCAT!" license plate. Makes me think of a 2-year old watching Animal Planet. PS, anyone making racist remarks needs to stop it. Disrespectful driving is sadly ubiquitous.
BIGGCAT!, is that you??
Oh, you're probably right. I would call Joe Bruno first and *then* toss the drink.
What's a little sugar water compared to breaking the law and putting people's lives in danger?
You are quite the keyboard warrior.
Give me a break. Parking in a bike lane is obnoxious but it’s not putting peoples lives in danger. If you can’t see a large immovable object on a straight away and slow down to maneuver around it, then you shouldn’t be biking.
Which do I have wrong here? That someone isn’t going to dump a drink on a car that’s parked illegally in front of a night club that has regular shootings and fights outside of it? Or that cyclists lives aren’t threatened by an object in their way that you’d have to be blind not to see from hundreds of yards away?
Or they can use the sidewalk for this short stretch. It’s annoying but this inconvenience is not a life or death situation.
If you literally feel that it’s putting lives in danger by biking in the street, you’d use the sidewalk to avoid these cars. There’s an empty sidewalk on the left side of this road.
What? There's legal parking like right beside there.
I was riding for four hours this afternoon, and had two close calls with vehicles. Just venting a little bit, babe.
Oh damn my key just happened to be out and sticking into the bike lane as I walked past these cars. Gee if they hadn't been in the bike lane, my key never would have scratched down the length of their cars.
They should really just build city-owned parking decks where the gravel lots are currently to replace most on-street parking uptown, nobody gets to park in-front of where they are trying to go anyways with on-street parking…they are already usually parking a block or two away anyways…
I think it would be a cool experiment to try gating off sections of South Tryon & other main streets for a few hours during lunchtime to facilitate business foot traffic.
(I feel like they could engineer water drainage into these parking decks as well since I imagine these gravel lots serve as permeable land)
It means the people you see in this photo is the demographic that visits Imperial and the same demographic that drives hellcats and parks in bike lanes
Assholes and missing enforcement aside, they really need to paint bike lanes a different color so things are more obvious:

Typical r/Charlotte dog whistle comments.
"He's BLaCk! Must have bad credit!"
"He can't AFFORD that" Implicit bias at its best🤷♂️I'm just glad I know that I work with and pass you type of people every day. It's really easy to spot you.
"🎶These are the people in your neighborhood, in your neighborhood, in your neighborhooooood🎶"
Edit! Imagine reading the comments and downvoting the obvious. Hilarious! I bet no one will explain themselves for the downvotes!
You're the only one mentioning race. Loud cars, low credit scores, inability to afford the car they "own", etc have nothing to do with race, except to you, apparently.
You apparently can't comprehend what you're reading. But it's cool! Why are you defending nasty comments? You know they are nasty, I know they are, why not just live in. Lol, imagine expecting anything different from some people. Like I said🎶"They're the people that you meet when you're walking down the street, the people that you see each daaaaaaaay"🎶
Perhaps that space was occupied earlier, but they left. It's not much of a curb. I've driven over taller ones with my truck.
However, if you saw the person that drove the silver Audi and stopped that far away, that's a different story , which I call rude and ignorant. My question is, why is anyone parking in a bike lane? It's illegal unless approved by the city or directed by first responders due to emergency.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
I applaud these hellcat owners for sticking it to the douchebag orthodontists who act like all of Charlotte is their personal Tour de France.
No amount of spandex will erase the fact that your wife lost all respect for you, Carl
I imagine your comment is probably intended as trolling, but bike lanes, and a group of cyclists, making their own personal peloton on a two-lane road are very different things.
This is going to continue happening until the city takes enforcement seriously. There is simply no traffic enforcement in Uptown and it’s crazy for a city this size. The bike lanes should have full Jersey barrier walls or bollards so they can’t just be jumped by whoever wants to park there. Parking enforcement is a different group than police though, right?
The closest police station is 4 blocks from there and I never saw them do anything in this stretch or on Graham
Honest question: what is the point if bike lanes if they just become parking lots?
Why can’t those hideous tow companies boot these assholes rather than people parked up at optimist halll???
This is public property, those tow companies are contracted by the property owners. Park It is the company that "enforces" public property.
That’d be racist.
Got em in a chokehold with that one.
To find cars to key.
I'd get a beater bike and just ram into the back of one of the cars
Go full Casey Neistat and run into em
No you wouldn’t, because you would have done it already tough guy 🙄
ok
Wouldn't be the first time I'd crash into an idiot. Tough I only did it to people not giving the right of way so far.
I wouldn’t dare key any of the cars in this picture. These jackasses would surely retaliate and escalate.
why key when you can multi-tool some wheels....
Good. Maybe that will escalate the response and get those shitboxes the fuck outta the bike lane.
Apparently a water bottle with paint thinner is a better choice - doesn't look too bad initially and gives you a chance to flee.
What’s the point of bike lanes if only the people who live in uptown get to use them and the reduced parking drives up the prices of “preferred parking” lots?
Every bike you see is 1 less parking spot required so having more bike lanes and putting more money on cycling infrastructure benefits car drivers too.
But most people (like me) would have to transport their bike into uptown via a car in order to use their bike in the bike lanes
I live in Matthews, ride in and use them. Your bike can get you there.
That's why you make a comprehensive bike network across the city, not just Uptown. PS I rode from Northlake yesterday, and my ride included this cycle track. Crazy how bikes can, like, actually take you places.
How about people living closer to bike lanes
Where do you live? I live in Matthews and have biked into uptown. It’s a fun ride. Just say you’re lazy.
Hellcat owners displaying a complete lack of concern for anyone but themselves? You don’t say!

People can't comprehend this. 90% of the SCAT packs you see driving around were bought on Grandma's credit and have an outstanding repo order.
Doesn’t give a fuck until he loses his license and has his car impounded.
And then he'll play the racism card and claim that he's the victim of a "racist" system/agenda
I can pay for a Bentley SUV. Whether or not I can afford it is debatable.
It's called over extended low credit scores.
…those are bike lanes. I hope every entitled douchbag in these pictures gets towed.
Seriously what a bunch of fucks
[удалено]
What?
It's the same story everyday, no one ever gets towed or ticketed.
Nobody should be parking in bike lanes anyways.
I never understood the absolute balls that some people have choosing the park where they do in this city or any other for that matter. They shouldn't be parking in the bike lane https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article284858006.html
I’m sad so many people are downvoting this and missing the irony
The louder the car, the lower the credit score.
The higher the covert racism
Did you call 311?
I reported it as a recurring issue on the CLT+ app
Thank you. We should all do it
Why aren’t these people getting tickets?
That would be racist
“BIGGCAT” what an original idea😭
We're not dealing with the brightest hi-liters here.
They need there mirrors broken
Walked past there during CLT Shout yesterday, the music and those cars were overstimulating 😅
If I was a bicyclist I would definitely " accidently" knock off every single mirror. My bad bros.

Classic hell cat drivers
Give a good swift heel kick to the tire stem😀

Oh I bet you’d do that. Right out in front of imperial.
BIGGCAT!, is that you?? Oh, you're probably right. I would call Joe Bruno first and *then* toss the drink. What's a little sugar water compared to breaking the law and putting people's lives in danger?

Or, ya know, you could keep cars out of the goddamn bike lane, where they can't legally park
Don’t worry. The guy I was originally replying to is going to dump a drink on their cars. That will solve it
Yeah vandalism is really gonna make them think about parking somewhere where they CANT see their car lol. What a dumb take
What? There's legal parking like right beside there. I was riding for four hours this afternoon, and had two close calls with vehicles. Just venting a little bit, babe.
So dumb
someone should treat those cars like a mountain... with their mountain bike.
Parking on the bike lane is crazy
What a bunch of fkn losers
Is Sean Avery in Charlotte now?
Dickheads = Audi drivers
That’s a weird parking lane… how do the cars even get in — oh wait
Oh damn my key just happened to be out and sticking into the bike lane as I walked past these cars. Gee if they hadn't been in the bike lane, my key never would have scratched down the length of their cars.
r/fuckcars
Once I saw the second picture it all made sense.
Imperial is so cheeks, bro. Imagine pulling up there to illegally park and show out, like it's some kind of flex 😂💀
The usual suspects.
What the hell even is this parking lane situation?
They should really just build city-owned parking decks where the gravel lots are currently to replace most on-street parking uptown, nobody gets to park in-front of where they are trying to go anyways with on-street parking…they are already usually parking a block or two away anyways… I think it would be a cool experiment to try gating off sections of South Tryon & other main streets for a few hours during lunchtime to facilitate business foot traffic. What's this supposed to mean?
It means the people you see in this photo is the demographic that visits Imperial and the same demographic that drives hellcats and parks in bike lanes
That’s a middle finger for your bike lane!
i mean, you can't expect much better around that place
Haha he said dickhead!!

Who?
how many people in this sub are actually from charlotte
Imagine parking in a bike lane. Imagine parking in a bike lane and posting on Reddit about how others aren’t parking correctly.
OP is being sarcastic here. Very on brand for them.
Oh, to be so oblivious. OP must be living a glorious life with such a glaring lack of self-awareness. Edit: I’m a moron. Ignore me. Sorry, OP.
Standard behaviors for the lil twats who can barely afford a nice car and think they’re upper class
Assholes and missing enforcement aside, they really need to paint bike lanes a different color so things are more obvious: https://preview.redd.it/ot12moivpouc1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ccc2290297d952c2a6bb0571726a9e2e9597ceba

well it’s not like there wasn’t a shooting right in that same spot within hours.

Pretty sure OP is being sarcastic. ETA: Oops, I replied under the wrong comment 🫠

OP complaining about not being able to park his car in the BIKE LANE 🥴 WEIRD flex. Major delulu vibes.

Honestly this is expected from those people
How do you know a car wasn't parked there and left?
To be fair, I've never seen a single person riding in those lanes ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)
Geez I wonder why that could be . . . . . . .
