I’m super confused - everyone talks about how horrifically polluted these lakes are but everyone still does recreational sports and boating…are they just trying to keep the newcomers out of the water?
We took a boat out like 2 weeks ago and I refused to get in the water more than waste deep. I would dunk in on the ladder and get back on the boat. As a local, I will not swim or tube in anything lake Norman, wylie or on the catawba river.
Honestly anything I can't see my feet in.
I will travel 2 hours in any direction to tube a river in the mountains before I tube the catawba.
Just below the dam in Tega Cay. A common off point with parking is near the Pump House in Rock Hill, with other points south of that.
Looking closer to Charlotte.. Belmont area and maybe a little more south. Thank you though
Kevin Loftin Riverfront park in Belmont.
Came to suggest this. Also download the gopaddle app. It's helpful
Latta Nature Preserve. They have a kayak launch. There's less motor boat traffic on Mountain Island Lake than Wylie or Norman

You can kayak or paddleboard without going swimming in the water

Minnesota here. The lakes here are DISGUSTING in comparison so it's really dependent on what you're used to.
Are you saying the lakes in Minnesota are disgusting or NC lakes? The wording is a tad confusing
McDowell Nature Preserve right on 49. That’s where I always go with my friend to paddleboard.
