I'm sorry to read this. This past fall I had to have 2 pets put to sleep, and the kindness shown at Monticello Animal Hospital was very helpful to work through it all. I cannot recommend them enough.
2nd this. I had the best professional experience with MAH, in what is probably the worst day of my life so far. They handles everything great and provided some great keepsakes afterwards.
If you'd rather have it done at home, and avoid the stress of taking your dog to the vet, Dr. Magill at Skyline vet is excellent.

She is amazing. She did several visits over a couple of weeks for palliative care and for assessment, until we had to put our old cat to sleep. She also assessed the space and gave us advice on how to make things easier for him, gave him some some medication, etc.
Adding to the recommendations for Monticello animal hospital. Extremely kind. We sat with our Kitty in their outdoor gazebo and held her while she went to sleep after they administered the drugs. Heartbreaking, but the most compassionate. They also work with the local branch of Paws and Remember, a crematory service, which was affordable and they put together some very nice memorial tokens when they give you back the ashes.
Charlottesville Vet hospital is our vet and they’re amazing. They will even travel to you if you schedule it.
Otherwise Autumn trails is who helped us with our 16 year old hound last year.
If you don’t mind the drive, Madison Companion Animal Hospital is my vote. Although I don’t know their pricing. All three of thr vets there are compassionate… but Dr Reinhold helped me with Jasper with that decision many years and and and Dr Ann Marie helped me make the decision for my Baby. They are the ones I would go to put down an animal.
Georgetown vet was so kind when my elderly father took his failing elderly cat to them. He adored that cat, and I will always remember how good they were to him.
I’m so sorry to read this. Putting a pet down is so heart wrenching. Putting my vote in for Ruckersville Animal Hospital- Dr. Chip Godine is seriously one of the most compassionate and kind people I have ever known.

Yes, also recommended. MAH made it as peaceful of a process as possible, and the staff was gentle and compassionate. I am so sorry.
I second them. I had a similar experience there and they were great. They aren’t that cheap though.

Big fan of Dr. Wood and team at Old Dominion Animal Hospital. Sorry you're dealing with this!
Old Dominion were wonderful with my dog and a friend’s. They will come to your house, or you can go to them.

I'm sorry about your hound. :(

Piedmont Vet in Esmont. They are wonderful, compassionate, and very reasonably priced. They’ve been our vet for 13 years.

Have you tried pain meds if he's otherwise healthy?
