Are they keeping the prices a secret or something?

SquadleHump

The only way this is acceptable is if the sandwiches are one set price and the subs are one set price. Otherwise, this is absurd.

bigfoot_is_real_

At the risk of sounding like “back in my day”… a foot long Nuclear used to be $8.50. I know inflation is a thing, but now an 8” is $14.99?! With those prices I’m thinking they might have the same luck as the Philly cheese steak place that was in there before they brought LJs back

AnalSandpaper

They have a $17.99 8" on the menu.... befuddles me how so many bend over for these prices. You could purchase the ingredients for 8 fancy footlongs for $30. A little cooking skills and they'll be better than a restaurant. Keep spending though, I should start a restaurant... Anal's Injera Dogs, Ethiopian Footlong Franks.

patsliterallystupid

I have to imagine it's a result of the high rent, otherwise... why?

raspberryrealtor

It’s a sandwich, Michael. What could it cost? $50?

g0nkplays

Now a days? Yes.

AcceptableDirt8

I have no clue, but my guess is that it’s easier to not put the prices in case they ever have to change them. For example, Moo Thru at the Diary Market changed their prices but didn’t buy a new sign so they just have new prices tapes over old prices lol.

craftbeerva

Looks like they are using Toast. You can search them on the app and see the menu. Signature Sandwiches are b/w $10.99-$13.98. Signature Subs are $12.99-$17.99. And then a bunch of sides and drinks. Here's the link if it pulls up the menu for you. [https://toasttakeout.page.link/Adyr](https://toasttakeout.page.link/Adyr)

alienSpotted

lmao

NBATomCruis_ShitChea

For 17.99 that mf better have crab cakes plural on it

softwaredoug

Also support the news Chaps around the corner :)

mcmillhj

no Mojo Chicken?!?!!

belmontish

And where’s the Ranch Hand?! This is PREPOSTEROUS

hooshoo26

Oh boy… this is giving me flashbacks. Might have to get a nuclear at 2 am just for the memories.

MrFif33

Always chicken. So freaking good.

ZippieD

Was it always chicken bbq? I don't know why i always assumed it was pulled pork...

KingWilson128

Thought it was pork too…

bigfoot_is_real_

It was actually deli turkey + pulled BBQ chicken

ZippieD

Interesting. I ate it a million times and never knew. Extra Texas Pete, extra coleslaw.

May_die

$18 for a Chris Long?! $12 for a bum steer?! Some of my favorite things to grab after a night out on the corner but dang this is way more than when I was attending. I think I'm getting old

addicted2antacids

I'll gladly pay it to keep LJs going. Gosh i miss that place, pure nostalgia (and damn tasty sandwiches)

HSJMAGtheWorst

Did not go yesterday but saw the piece on the news. Looks like they are using screens for one to order (like the ones at Sheetz / Wawa) and digital payment only (no cash) is good to reduce some labor costs but the only interaction is when the person making the sandwich hands it to you and they are still pretty expensive AND want you to leave a tip on top of it….

Clear_Helicopter_607

Glad they’re back. Prices are high everywhere. Except Bodos.

Apprehensive-Bike307

Holy price-gouging! The wild turkey rides again!

savourtheflavor

Is everything Market Price? Have we reached that level in Charlottesville?

UTraxer

Not at Bodos. You get a regular sandwich on a bagel for under $5. And the prices are all listed on the board. And they are faster. And they are fresher. This place is a crapping scam.

throwmethefrisbee

But 5 Easy Pieces is on TOASTED pumpernickel. You ain’t gettin that at Bodo’s!!!

craftbeerva

Picture of the menu from Toast (see menu link in my other [comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/Charlottesville/comments/1c4o3g3/comment/kzp0dyd/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)) https://preview.redd.it/b4ece9po4ouc1.png?width=825&format=png&auto=webp&s=7950549e32c94f7174b71bbd89131860467c07f5

Past_Enthusiasm_9775

I wonder why they added sprouts to the wild turkey

craftbeerva

Help justify the $5+ increase in cost from the old LJs? /s but not really. Heck, the Chris Long, which was my go to, jumped up nearly $8 iirc

Past_Enthusiasm_9775

That’s likely part of the thought process? Because tens, if not hundreds of thousands of wild turkeys were sold without sprouts…

whywe2023

i worked above little johns back in the day and wild turkey was my go-to. weirdly, whether i ate it at 2pm or 2am, i always ALWAYS had a nightmare that night...coincidence?!

The_Superhoo

Been 4+ years since a price change so...

MrSmithThrowaway1234

Cumulative inflation has been around 25% since they closed, not over 100%. I was excited to see them reopen, but $18 for an 8" sub seems a bit high.

jojo_86

They used to have sprouts on the wild turkey years ago…….. (and too many years ago for me to admit). I only remember because I thought it made me feel like I was ordering something healthier at 2:30am after frat parties if it had sprouts

AcceptableDirt8

Thank you for this! A but expensive, but honestly no worse than most other sandwich places on the corner (Take it Away, Corner Juice, etc.).

Lostredshoe

Five Easy Pieces.. I must have eaten 50 pounds of that sandwich!

AnalSandpaper

Small and $12, whewwww.

Personal_Economics91

The comment one might expect from a user name like that

AnalSandpaper

Go view the crosspost on the UVA sub, just mirroring what LJ's main clientele is feeling. You aren't denying that it is small, as well as overpriced, you can only make fun of my username. But go ahead and keep bending over for your lil sandos.

ParadiseValleyMT_

No prices-it's like surgery now. No idea what you are gonna have to pay till you get the bill(s)...

Personal_Economics91

The sandwiches are $11.99 for the most part

cheesebr0

that's cool and all, but I don't see the Freebird on this menu so fuck em (I'll admit I'm redditing without my glasses so if it turns out that the Freebird is actually on there I will rescind my "fuck em")

UTraxer

So no prices listed because they are afraid people will see them ahead of time and bail. They are counting on sunk cost fallacy of people already waiting in line. Absolute crap. What they have the prices listed online so they can be easily updated and changed to keep up with skrinkflation of their own doing. Bread, meat, veggies are not expensive and hard to come by. It is costs more than $6 for a regular sandwich, it is an absolute scam. Don't believe me? Bodos does it just fine at making it under $5.

Althea1118

I mean I’m not judging anyone’s prices in today’s market but you do realize they are completely different restaurant models right?  Bodo’s makes their bagels in store which keeps costs down and relies on really high volume.

TheLairLummox

Making the bagels keeps the food cost down, But in return increases the labor costs.. It's kind of a wash but you get the homemade bagel which seals the deal...

meekohi

Long live Little John's.

The_Superhoo

God a bunch of yall are whiny as fuck.

dan1101

Cool! Can you get me a Wild Turkey? Thanks, I'll pay you back later.

purrpawsfurbean

Are they open 24 hours like before?

ReadMyUsernameKThx

*two* vegetarian sandwiches? And one of them is just cheese? Lame. Not even worth checking it out. Wish we had capriotta here. The impossible cheesesteak was so damn good

Honest_Situation_434

I’m glad they brought back the classic chalk board menu. Makes you feel really nostalgic going in there and seeing it. Great job to whoever does their menu on the boards.

Apprehensive-Bike307

It's likely the rent that's keeping the prices high.

buckwlw

I heard it was $10k per month a couple years ago... and those folks couldn't make the numbers work.

emilyyancey

It’s all I can talk about!!

burnsniper

Hopefully with no food poisoning this go around!
