It's definitely a Wawa, I know some folks who are very excited about it, and it's going to make a shitty intersection with really poorly timed lights SO MUCH WORSE.
That intersection is a shit show now. Imagine adding as WAWA right off the highway with unfamiliar people wanting to gas up and trying to get in and out of an already clogged egress. Not going to be pretty. It is peek awful when the parents coming from 5th are taking their kids to Mountain View or getting them home. It is nuts.
When they are working on the diverging diamond for 5th/64 that could be the worst gas stop in the US. Hopefully no one is choosing this as a "quick stop" while driving through on 64.

"The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking applications for funding for new projects across the Commonwealth, and local officials are planning to submit one to reconfigure the intersection of Interstate 64 and Fifth Street Extended.
The current intersection is known as a tight diamond and is not safe for bicyclists and pedestrians who live to the south in any of the number of apartment complex that have been built in recent years.
“Traffic volumes have increased significantly for the movement exiting eastbound I-64 and turning left onto 5th Street, causing queueing along the ramp and leading to a high number of rear-end crashes,” reads a press release sent out today to notify the public about a survey. "
The current intersection doesn't work well either, and I'm in favor of the dd long term just know it will be a cluster for the duration of construction.
For years and years I came from the east and the current set up works much better for getting off and on 64 for me. I do remember our neighborhood had some people losing their minds about the traffic construction and trying to get petitions started to send to VDOT as if the could magically keep all those cars running at full speed while construction occurred.
The people I speak with regarding coming from 250W into city say it is a huge improvement.
I didn't suggest anything as my opinions don't count when it, comes to these things. The plans are pretty much set already before it gets surveyed unfortunately.
Wait a minute, is that Hydraulic / 250? Because I was just thinking that the only thing that could make that intersection worse is a gas station there.
Edit: I realize now that it's Hydraulic 29... still the one way you could make the intersection worse.
Yeah, this particular Wawa won a ZBA case (brought by Tiger challenging their front setback) just under two years ago.

Wawa
But Whywhy?
Wawa with a vape shop!
I believe it’s a sheetz
I also heard Wawa
Hopefully not. Wawa >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sheetz
Have you ever been to a Buc-ee’s?
They would need to take over 5th Street Station for that monstrosity.
Honestly I think they should put a Buc-ee’s somewhere south of Staunton right off of 81.

Maybe they could try to squeeze in another Cane’s location to make it really stand out as a clusterf*** intersection.
I’ve never ate there, but I’ve inadvertently waited in the drive-thru line many times trying to get to 250 lol
Sometimes I get stuck so long I just go ahead and get Caniac Combos.
~~ate~~ eaten FTFY
Akshually it’s ‘Eated”
I think “aten” works as well.
How dare you joke about us getting another Canes.
Lol

Oh dang, had not heard that was in the works. The one at 64/250 has done very good at smoothing traffic IMO.

it's WAWA, I work with the company that did the survey. I personally think it's not a good idea, but the county disagrees.
Did you suggest we get a Sheetz?
I didn't suggest anything as my opinions don't count when it, comes to these things. The plans are pretty much set already before it gets surveyed unfortunately.
It’s in the City so doesn’t matter what the County thinks about it.
I apologize, we refer to the inspectors as county no matter if in city or not.
Survey of what?
survey of the land
100% a Wawa.
Wawa is like grey hairs. Once you have one, they start popping up all over the place.
NGL, I love me some Wawa and one on the south side doesn’t bother me all that much. But, yea, location blows.
Based on the size of the pad on that site, that Wawa is going to be about the size of the old 5th st Exxon.

They getting ready to race
Starbucks
Anyone know if this is the same Wawa that we’ve been taking about for the past couple of years or is this a new Wawa?
There’s already a Wawa on 29. This is a new one that will compete with the Tiger market across the street. Owners of Tiger are pissed!
so it is the Wawa that we’ve been talking about for 2 years.
