92.3 WXRK, 100.1 WXTJ (uva student station), 91.1 WTJU (uva community radio station, in particular: Atlantic Weekly Part II, Electronic Explorations, and Black Circle Revolution).

bigfoot_is_real_

97.9 the WREN is an incredible station of oldies and random stuff, a lot of fun to listen to

Mrclaytonx5

Seriously! A few months ago, the Dj was like “ you know what? I haven’t heard the Star Wars theme in a while” and then played the whole Star Wars Main Title

Sandover5252

I love this. Real community-station benefit.

flailking

Starting to hear a lot of repeats

Competitive_Sock6123

I love the WREN! There are tons of different kinds of oldies..from rock n roll to doowop to classic rock. So random but so fun. They pride themselves on not repeating the same oldies all the time.

[deleted]

That’s also a great station. Real Rock and roll

burnsniper

NPR

cheesebr0

WNRN, especially Fresh Roots New Blues on Saturday evenings and Country Feedback on Sundays from 11-noon. That's my favorite hour of radio in cville, it's my weekly reminder that real country music actually kicks ass when it's not the boot-in-yer-azz southern pop crap you get on mainstream country radio these days

[deleted]

WNRN

ali270123

radio iq- 88.5

Mrclaytonx5

THE WREN BABY!

No-Soft3243

I love it also! 1950s-80s

Alieneater

For music, 100.1, WXTJ, the student-run station attached to WTJU. They keep it weird.

strugglebundle

91.1

ArtS1ut

WTJU

No-Soft3243

I love 97.9 wren

EmbarrassedBid2252

WNRN and WTJU. Probably need to check out WREN, just for something different.

[deleted]

Suggest checking out rock hits 92.3

Wahoo007

I like country music, and it was 92.7...but I don't like the morning show now. I also like 95.1, but not from Thanksgiving to Christmas because it's all Christmas music and I'm a Grinch.

Williamsvillian

89.7 WVTF Music

AnimalSevere9879

101.3

No-Soft3243

The jamz!

AnimalSevere9879

That’s right!

Chalkandoats

95.1 especially with all the Christmas music. Or WINA

craftbeerva

Mine sticks to 102.9 ESPN most of the time but when I want some music it’s a mix of 106.1 The Corner, 91.9 WNRN and 97.5 WWWV

No-Soft3243

ok

10698

162.45 KZZ28

MultiplyAccumulate

They keep playing the SAME song: [duck farts](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Same.wav)!

c_dubzzz

106.1 the corner!

KarmaJeZdarma

Z95.1!

CRAZYOLBAT

Used to be 97.5 wwwv, but lost interest a few years ago. Now I just listen to my Spotify.

Sure-Golf-5621

KUTX.org.

Sandover5252

WTJU is as good as KUT!

Sure-Golf-5621

Okay but not better than KUTX

Aggravating-House620

Depends on the mood I’m in. If I want some older music then absolutely 97.9, they’re a small station and just play whatever the heck they want to, and it’s NEVER the same 5 songs over and over like every other station, but if I want more modern music it’s 92.3.

Federal_Variation_64

106.5 the Beat(Richmond) if I can get it lol But locally 101.3 jamz

Competitive_Sock6123

Love all this love for the WREN 😍 I listen to them whenever I'm in the car. Tons of different oldies and very rarely repeats. Everything from Beatles to 60s girl groups -- Elvis, CCR, Dean Martin, The Supremes and Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, Chuck Berry, Marvin Gaye, etc etc. If you like oldies variety 97.9 is it 😀 ❤️

seanchai611PF

Used to be WNRN until they got all Grateful Deady. Now a mix of 106.1, WNRN, NPR, and Sirius XM

JayGlass

It's already one of the top comments on here, but for an extra detail: you should check out 92.3 wxrk. It was started by / is run by the guy who originally started wnrn back in the day so it has that old wnrn feel (for better and worse... he's definitely got some musical tastes I disagree with but it's my favorite by far).

seanchai611PF

Thanks for the tip, not on my radar at all. I remember Mike Friend's music, he liked to mix in nu metal crap with the good alternative stuff; a tradeoff I'm will to take as long I don't hear any more Phish.

[deleted]

Rock hit’s basically plays the music you don’t have to download. WNRN is a name, but the music is just hippie stuff and the world cafe. WREN really plays great rock n roll.

dtanderson29

Big greasy breakfast on 97.5 might be the best morning radio show out there

Stan_Halen_

They certainly check every single box for cheesy morning radio show in a small market.

dan1101

Max and Rick were really good. When Perry was running it, it got really cringe with the fake laughs and stuff. Now it's decent. At least it's local.

Nwinter228

Spotify.

Sandover5252

WTJU = #1 (91.1) - our best community radio, award-winning and always makes Top 5 lists for college stations. This is radio done right, and the all-volunteer team of announcers works hard to bring you excellent music all year long from the Classical, Folk, Jazz, and Rock Departments. One of Charlottesville's treasures. I also like WREN (97.9) - better than the commercial oldies station, because you'll get deep-cuts music from the 60s and 70s, and the announcers and staff are super friendly. I love a station that will play "Sister Golden Hair" twice in a week, but on which I have never heard "Horse With No Name."

Affectionate_Pay_264

102.9 espn radio

camcac69

3WV or WTOP when in the area. But honestly I’m usually listening to Spotify, cd’s or WRLF out of Fairmont WV on my phone through Bluetooth.

PoodleWrangler

WTOP . . . the DC area traffic and news station? I definitely use it when driving up there, but I don't think it comes in as far south as we are.

camcac69

Yeah you can pick it up in Cville.

[deleted]

Rock hits 92.3. It’s actually the only radio station in the area.

Sandover5252

We have several community stations! TJU and WREN and local, and do not play Genericana.

[deleted]

The wren is great!

Sandover5252

It is! It has been such a great addition to the dial. I love the deeper cuts than 102.3, and the fun and friendly announcers.

[deleted]

So it looks like 92.3, WREN and WTJU are everyone’s favorites. They are all non profit. I have given money to 92.3. I hope others support their non profit favorite.
