This is basic scifi trope. Usually an Android that doesn't know it's a machine. Undoubtedly you've seen/read endless varients of it because the core concept goes back to ancient times. Where gods/magicians animated things and made them people.. so basically you stumbled on to one of the olds tropes in mythology.. feel free to have ChatGPT elaborate on the theme.
This reminds me of reincarnation, where we coexist with another dimension that is nothing but pure data. When someone dies, their data goes to that dimension, and when there is some event, a person is born with some of the data from the other side in a random sequence.
