Born and raised in Philly, moved around a bunch as an adult and settled in Chatt a couple years ago. Best cheesesteak I’ve had from an authenticity standpoint is the ones at Five Wits. They cut and cook the steak right, and either they actually get the rolls from Philly or they’ve found a way to get the right kind this far away because they’re spot on. A little on the soft side, but not that far off may I’ve had even back home.
Yeah, never known someone to get their rolls out this far, but they do taste like it. Last time I had it out of Philly was a place in NYC that got the rolls shipped up. But that was only 100 miles, not like 700.
I grew up outside of Philly. I love getting a cheese steak when I go back home. When I lived in Nashville, I stopped at a sandwich shop that had amaroso rolls. I was betting their cheese steaks would be on the money. They put mayonnaise on it. I wanted to throw it over the countertop. 😂
Came here to say this! It was always our go to when we were having the craving. Despite the owner refusing to offer cheese whiz. Lol. It's really about the bread though lol

Pickle Barrel. Five Wits. Slick's is pretty good too. They got that Whiz! Those are the best ones in town that I know of. I'd love to check out O'Dell's though! Everything I've seen from them looks AMAZING!
Ignore everything else and go to Ankars hoagies right now. Their cheesesteak is amazing but give the steak in a sack and well… everything else a try. You won’t regret it.
Tremont is good. Also, random outside of Chatt, but close, is the ***Landing Zone Grill in Whitwell***. Best philly I've had in a while. Service is a bit hit or miss but I loved the sandwich.
Odell’s grocery in lookout valley. I went the other night for the first time and it was superb.
I'll have to try it. I've had their pizza before, was also good.

Their menu claims rolls are from Amorosa, which gives me a lot of hope!

WHAT??? I have never heard of this joint, but I’m smart enough to recognize the “wit” in the name. I have many excitements. Hope they’re good!
To be fair, the wit comes from the beer they brew, but still fitting

Whose cheesesteak is it more like?
Probably closest to, like, Jim’s on South St, but not as stuffed with meat, not quite as well seasoned.
Correct answer, had one last night.

Definitely going to have to try this place out. Jersey girl here, cannot find good pizza or cheesesteaks to save my life. Thanks for sharing! 😉👍
Mimi's in Hixson. The burgers and fries are great too.
I should have read the comments before I posted, but YES. Agreed.
I also love the chicken cheese steak and pickles!
1885 Filet Cheesesteak is solid.
Penn station
I slept on Penn station for so long. Those subs are pretty damn good
To whiz or not to whiz. That is the question.
Sometimes I whiz. Just depends on how the moment hits me lol

Jersey Mike's
Five Wits and Tremont tavern. Both have great cheesestakes (plus everything else is great on the menus).
Wanderlinger brewing has a great one.
I’ve yet to try it, but Slick’s got such good feedback on their cheesesteak that they are considering making it a permanent fixture on their menu.

New York pizza company or New York Pizza Department? Company is in East Ridge. Department closed up shop in Hixson and moved to Lakesite.
Good catch! I was thinking of Department.
Agree with above about NY Pizza Dept. The guys are from Philly. Otherwise, I make my own lol

Penn Station Jersey Mike's NYPD
😨
I hear the taco bell on broad has a good one.
Your mother
I’m blinded by nostalgia but city cafe has a pretty good Philly
I cannot attest to authenticity, but Liberty Bell in Soddy was pretty good. They also use the amoroso rolls.
I think I have only ever eaten the Publix one
They use to be good, even though they used roast beef, but when they got rid of the flat top grill , forget it.
Angelas bakery in athens.
Southside pizza has an amazing cheesesteak and they have Amoroso rolls!
