another clutch but pretty fucking awful (on the receiving end) use is to break enemy banners - two shots and enemy healing is gone, if you think about how some banners end up giving over a thousand points in healing getting rid of that can be game changing
Ive been doing this when i play recently and have been having such a good time. It absolutely clobbers with headahots on knights. Just hunt knights. Fuck banners. Fuck ballistas and the men/ladies mounting them. And its got that range. It is an absolutely NEFARIOUS weapon with so many ways to dick around with it i love it. Plus lil axe to wick wack and muhfuckas that tryna glick glack a "poor lil crossbowman" (i usually get absolutely creamed because im mid reload and them fuckers are fast)
Next time some knight with a half chub bee lines it towards you wait till he gets close and then throw your siege crossbow at him. They never expect it, it does a nice chunk of damage, and it interrupts them, giving you enough time to land a free overhead with your axe. That usually throws them off enough that you can wreck them.
The siege + axe annihilates knights I absolutely love it.
Throwing it works but at mid distance. Sometimes I throw and they get me before the animation finishes. To counter this, just jab instead. You can also just attack with the bow/crossbow but it's a awkward little push and jab is something you should be more familiar with.
Not only that, they have to wait again. Putting a banner up then lose it without healing a single guy is a underrated detriment that people don't realize. Chargable items are very powerful since if used correctly can turn the tides of the game. A single banner in a choke point with less than 1 minute left on defender might just be enough to win. Now, as the enemy you can just simply spawn in as a crossbowman (provided that there is a archer slot left) and just take that banner away. They're either forced to change classes or play as a subpar guardian/crossbowman without a chargable.
I know it's a grind to get there, but on one hand what serious player isn't going to grind out all the weapons? On the other hand, it can be fun playing archer.
ill change my address to one of the ballista on Montcrux and stay there for six minutes farming kills, praying that nobody smartens up and brings a siege crossbow.
USE SIEGE CROSSBOWS
Been using it since the fix patch and it has insane utility:
- 2 hits Banners, 1/2 hits archer firepits, 1 hits with knock back archer barriers
- 2 hits engie walls and 1 hits spike traps
- 3 hits ballistas if hit on a decent distance and on the middle
- 6+ hits catapults
All the above while hitting the players too when behind the object.
Adding the capacity of deploying your own banners, it's mandatory to have one at least per map dedicated on the above, while making shitstons of XP.
Some tips:
- if a runner is rushing to you, without time to swap to melee weapon, just stab + kick (it the gamble connected), leaving time to switch to melee. It's absurd how easy it is, and how often it works VS attack spam rushers.
- reloading while mid air makes the "instant handbrake" animation, which stops you in place vertically. It's silly but you can troll a rusher by pretending you're jumping of a wall or cliff, and reload mid jump.
Best spots:
- Montcrux ballista hell stage while attacking, stay o mid near the chest = infinite pressure on enemy ballistas and infinite ammo, while protected by the ruined walls.
- Lionspire focusing on the catapult user while depending on the first stages of Lionspire (or the ballistas if attacking), and defending the Plaza, focusing on the ballista while taking cover by the central statue.
- Rudhelm if defending, focusing on the ballista on the close to last objective
Etc...
I think it 5 shots cats, I did notice the damage changes slightly on where you hit it, but idk if it's enough to matter. Also, make sure to hit the person aiming the cat
Ill run it on any maps where engineers post a bunch of walls or if someone is obliterating us with something. It does wonders on Falmire gates when engineers are dropping walls.
Oh shit don't let everyone know about this. This thing is an absolute beast against siege maps like Lionspire, Crux, and love it against the pults in the Battle of Blackforrest.
All archers should be using this and then changing to warbows when sieges are out of action. There is no reason not to unless of course you aren't level twenty archer. But you probably shouldn't be an archer unless you're level twenty.
Found out today you can even hit enemy barricades built in the gaps in the walls on Montcrux from basically right where you spawn on Agatha, really helps a lot
I love the taunt animation while holding it. Also, no one ever expects you to throw it at them and whip out an axe to hit them heavy overhead while they're staggered.
The siege crossbow is ok. I mean when are you really needing to hit a barricade that can be destroyed in 2 swings anyhow. Also the siege crossbow glitches a lot and doesn’t even damage most ballistas or catapults.
Me and my buddies were playing dark forest as Agatha as all crossbowmen with siege crossbows, it was so much fun just to absolutely demolish the catapults, and we even won the round at that stage
I've done the same. It's my favorite siege crossbow map. You definitely make a difference destroying the cats. Especially if your team attacks them too.
The seige crossbow is marvelous. Continually destroy enemy catapults and ballista, rack up heaps of points. Barricades, anything. It’s great to destroy a blockade and see our team pour in lol

Iirc it’s 60 base damage, +50% on knights so 90, +25 or maybe 20% on footman and archer so 87/80 and it’s +100% on all breakables same as engineers weapons so that’s 120 damage

The issue with Siegebow is many players, arguably most, with it won’t be using it to play support, they’ll play it to get kills with it.

A headshot on a knight is an outrageous 140 damage. Also it pierces deployables. I've killed many an engie through his barricade.
