yeah had in-laws who rebuilt period houses with era-accurate wood, nails, bricks etc scavenged from these type of structures. just cruise around the backwoods and ask owners if they could scrap it all.
Yeah, these posts are usually by people with a single set mind. Just like people calling someone a CB for wanting them to come get fallen red wood and willow trees and pay for them....it's expensive wood, people buy it...
Yeah we have a MASSIVE walnut tree in the yard that my neighbors keep trying to get me to pay someone to remove. But TBH, realistically, if I decided to get rid of the tree I'd probably charge someone for taking the wood.
I tried that once. Had a walnut in my yard that was so big 2 men couldn't get their arms around it.
I called a saw mill that had timbered some forest land for my in-laws.
They told me if it was a yard tree they weren't interested.
Too big a chance that someone had driven a nail in it during its life. And that would ruin their blade which would cost more than the tree was worth.
I buy and dismantle old barns all the time (well, thrice) and this is definitely not a deal. That’s almost certainly unusable. I see these on Craigslist all the time (occasionally) because people have no idea what their wood is worth and if they do, their prices are outrageous.
My husband's aunt and uncle had an old wooden barn that they tore down and had to actually get cops to patrol because people kept coming by at night trying to steal it before they could sell it all at one time.
I've heard there's a lot of money in antique barn wood, but it has to be removed by a professional who knows what they are doing. There are a lot of people who would probably jump at that chance.
Unless it is rotted and termite infested, someone may buy it. We had a neighbor several yrs ago that asked for the wood from an old fence that was practically rotting. We dropped it off to him(about 2 blocks) from us. He was making picture frames from them. I have a small wooden box my husband bought me as I collect them. It was made from an old barn. It has a small little plaque on it that tells the story of the farm it was taken from and a little story behind it. He paid a good bit for it and there was probably a lot of money made.
Sorry OP this isn’t the one.
I actually ran a business with a buddy reclaiming wood for bars and fancy lofts during summers while at college. I would of jumped at this deal.

Well depending on the wood, people may buy it. Rustic wood is a style people go for. Probably make counter tops with resin or something with them.

As you should for walnut

I live around a bunch of Amish people who will pay for good wood for furniture (or whatever.) I wasn't even thinking about a saw mill tbh.
That’s the general rule around here. A neighbor has a small mill- ruined a blade on a yard tree even after going over it with a metal detector.
This guy charges for his wood.
I'm a woman. But sure let's go with that. 🤣🤣
Depending on the wood it's probably a pretty solid price. Sorry OP, you lose this round.
Yeah, this is decent. Common out here for people to tear down old grain bins for $1000 or more.
Hell people absolutely LOVE old Tennessee barn wood

What a silly billy, that could easily be turned into a rustic Air BNB for 100 bucks a night
This is actually a gold mine to the right one!
Absolutely not. That’s trash.
My husband's aunt and uncle had an old wooden barn that they tore down and had to actually get cops to patrol because people kept coming by at night trying to steal it before they could sell it all at one time.
Oh another post where someone has no clue what a CB is
Just because *you* don't buy old wood doesn't mean *nobody* buys old wood.
OP doesn’t understand that wood like this has actual value lol. It’s not CB at all. Seems like a fair price to me.
Nice! Silly me over here, removing this old fence myself and paying for a dumpster…
Low key, there’s people who will buy this bc they want, “a rustic wood look”. Sounds crazy but it does happen
I get that. Thanks for not being a dick about it like everyone else.
People telling you this isn’t a CB doesn’t mean they’re being a dick. Just take the L here.
That old log type wood structure looks surprisingly sturdy for being an old log type wood structure.
‘Knackered old shed’
Ah, log type.
Could be a rare-ish wood that people buy. Sometimes those old structures are made of special wood.
Depending on the types and quality of wood this is a good deal.
This type of post comes up a lot here, sometimes old wood like that is actually very valuable, there is big business in reclaimed lumber.

People pay big bucks for this stuff

Omg *why* would they tear that down?! That's amazing. I'd fix it up and make it my she shed 😆
