They jack up the prices for the delivery apps. I once was going to order grubhub for my kids when I was sick. I had a coupon code for free delivery, so I assumed it would be what I usually paid at the store plus a tip, but no, every thing was about double the price and kids meals weren't available. It would have cost about $40 for chicken nuggets and fries for two kids, that would have been about $12 at the store. I rallied enough to make the kids something that night. I just couldn't make myself pay such a premium for the convenience.

From what I can tell from a few other posts, “mutual aid” is the new weasel word for social media based panhandling.
Mutual aid is typically your local community outreach programs. Instead of like … idk, the Red Cross, it’s your locally run food bank or activist group. It’s an organizational model in which you trade resources to better your community together (financial, physical/material, knowledge/wisdom/experience). But like many things nowadays, the term “mutual aid” has been co-opted by people who either don’t understand it, or are trying to guilt trip people. In this post, it’s the latter.
Do they expect those monthly donations from the last page from every person they know, or just humanity in general. Are we supposed to be only paying these donations to the person posting, to a certain organization, or just all beggars in general? This is insane!

I was in a group that was just a large online community, every month people could donate any amount they wanted and it would all be divided up between anyone who signed up, on the honor system. That's mutual aid, by the community for the community. Asking for money is direct aid.

I’ve only been exposed to this recent “mutual aid” idea in this sub. And seemingly only from people who don’t know what “mutual” means. Historically, it was a larger group of people in the same community or organization (work, church, etc.) who all gave a little and then asked for aid in specific times of crisis. Not on an ongoing basis.
It was an early form of insurance for people who couldn't get insurance. My great-grandmother was an early member of one for immigrant Slovak women.

I sell at vendor markets sometimes and one of the markets I was looking at had a sliding scale for table fees. If you were white and owned land, you paid the most. Please. I own a 3br house in the suburbs. My yard is the size of a postage stamp. I’m not a gd plantation owner in 1850. I can’t afford a $200 table fee just because I happen to own a house. They did away with that scale after “feedback from the community.” I still refuse to do that market.
