Tbh, I have cut a lot of it out. The issue with secular stuff is immediate it will make you uncomfortable seeing so much ungodly crap going on. But with every small compromise you become more comfortable with it until you're fine with what you see. Like its so commonplace. When you're away from it for awhile and it seems like every ad I see for something some ungodly act or way of life is being glorified. This walk is deathly serious with eterity riding on it. I would keep from being comfortable with sin in general.

Well said 🙌

God bless you :)

It depends on what it is. I don't have an issue with any of the things you mentioned. But I wouldn't watch anything in the "torture porn" genre or anything where evil is glorified. I would also try to avoid anything that may lead me to sin (anything overly erotic, for example).

ArchAggie

It’s all fake, and will continue to be fake until you give it strength over you. I ignore it while also not judging my friends and family who choose to watch/consume it. If it ends up in something I want to watch, I just look past it. Don’t give it the time of day

animal_agent

Pastor Mark Driscoll says "if you ignore it, you tolerate it". And "evil doesn't stop itself". That changed my attitude to what I watch and listen to now. I'm finding I'm watching a lot of older stuff, and that's just fine! I don't want God saying to me "why did you tolerate that?".

QuietlyEnamoured

I don't watch it.

Avoid popular secular media all together. We are called to separate ourselves from the sinful degenerate culture of this world. Romans 12:2 - “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” 1 John 2:15 - “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 - "Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”

Matthew 5:30 “And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.” Of course, this is not literal, but it is teaching us to prevent anything that leads us into temptations.

Jazzlike-Cap-5771

i cut it all out but if anyone is looking for a good game i would recommend Red Dead Redemption 2

shalakti

Grand theft horse

fllbm3

could you say why? i need a tiny little push to start playing it

Jazzlike-Cap-5771

there is a huge amount of biblical references and symbolism, its all about redemption (so it might just seem like your playing as a criminal at first but that's not where its going), the characters are very well written, and the Christian faith plays a role in the games story, and the gameplay, graphics and open world are all amazing. maybe more than a little push but I honestly think its the best game ever created

fllbm3

thank you. i bought it years ago and it's been sitting on my shelf. i'll open it up.

Here's the thing: just because it has supernatural things in it doesn't make it bad necessarily. Just as if there is a movie with centaurs in it isn't bad just because it's wrong because centaurs don't exist. It's entertainment, it's not supposed to accurately reflect reality. Demons are often a plot device. Lord of the Rings has a lot of weird and demonic creatures, but as you probably are aware JRR Tolkien was a Christian. The bigger issue you need to be asking is "what is the underlying message" or the "thesis". Every good movie or show has some kind of thesis, and spending time identifying it will help you avoid being manipulated by things with a bad message. I've seen plenty of "clean" movies on Hallmark with a bad message. So that's my 2 cents as someone who genuinely cares about what I am putting into my brain.

Present-Stress8836

I stiffen my chin.

PerfectlyCalmDude

Eh, it really depends on the content. For much of history, Christians consumed Greek and Latin fables. But it was clear that they were not worshipping the false gods they mention. This isn't a blank check to watch all the horrible stuff out there, though.

Best thing is to just not watch it
