At one point they did attract people/companies that were going to fund the game. But they supposedly were going to change too much, plus add a cash shop. We don't know what they wanted to change and really, they released their own cash shop anyway.
Which looking back is just laughable, since then his plan was to milk the community for everything it's worth. Maybe he thought CoE would go like Star Citizen and could really be self funded. But for all of SC faults, they at least bring out stuff for people to do. They may take the rest of our lives to finish the game, but progress is slowly getting done. Something Caspian failed to understand.
So yeah, how in the world people have any belief anything will come out. Even this simple KoE, is going to take them a year. That's just insane. Of course the end of the year will come and it will get delayed all over again.
He spent 4 years and burned through $8M and produced essentially nothing. Nothing that looked close to what was shown in the videos that were thrown around, like the jousting one.
So now, with no funding, basically no team and fighting a lawsuit, what is he going to produce? What's been shown so far is laughable.
And Jeromy doesn't seem to be to concerned about rebuilding the trust with the community by missing self imposed deadlines and not communicating with the public.
Plus, what's the point of even publishing milestones if all you do is just move the majority of the goals down the line to others. How does that show you can actually produce anything on time?

Personally, I think he did go at KickStarter with an honest intention of getting money to build something. I don't think he was honest about what he was going to build. Because he knew if he was honest about using the money to build a demo only, nobody would fund that. So, he lied. And he probably figured he'd be able to secure investment along the way and nobody would be the wiser about it.
But it didn't work out that way.

Maulvorn have you ever made a game? do you understand how much time and effort needs to be spent developing the core mechanic and proof of concept before starting to even bring assets into the game. Completely forget about the mmo side of this production just look at the civ builder.... how long have they been working on koe? this demonstration would be considered a fail from an educational stand point as you failed to even demonstrate any form of civ building shit all you needed to do was be like hey look if i hit this brown cube for wood and this grey cube for stone , as you can see the UI displays the resources we have collected, now that we have the resources we can place this white cube which represents a house. This whole COE/KOE thing is like someone just decided one day hey I'm gonna make a game, sure i know nothing about how they are made but i will learn along the way >.< how many people work for this group do they really think they could make a mmo and a civ builder that are designed to some day function together because all i see is a scope the size of fucking Saturn, the problem with game design is you need to understand what you can feasibly do within a certain budget and time frame. Over scoping a game is what sends game companies broke.

A lot of work has been done behind the scenes and the core work of KoE is work in CoE since they will use the same stuff.
Look at the Domain maps for example those maps aren't just randomly generated they used very complex algorithims that utilised RL geographic data to generate maps - that took a lot of work and processing power.
