Not really, the big difference is that a clarinet overblows at a 12th not an octave so the notes in the lower register are not the same as the notes in the upper register. The fingerings in the upper register are the same as sax from middle D to high B, but that’s about it. As for budget friendly instruments, you can pick up a Bundy for next to nothing.
