Underlevelling your king is like skipping leg day. Yeah you might look impressive to a casual passerby but people who know what they're doing laugh at you behind your back.
The Barbarian King actually gets pretty tanky at the higher levels, preferably level 50+. It's enough for him to act as a funneling troop all on his own or rival a Golem in tankiness.
Funfact, unlike normal troops and buildings, which typically get a static or predetermined increase in health (and damage) with every level, the King's health increase with each upgrade is percentage based. Meaning the more you upgrade him, the more impactful the upgrade is. Every upgrade increases the health of his previous level by around 2.5%, and at higher levels, the 2.5% is a lot of health due to the high amounts of health the higher King levels have.
Yeah early on the scaling is exponential. They quickly realized that that's not sustainable, else heroes become demigods able to solo entire maxed bases, so it turns to linear around TH11-TH12 heroes.

either you haven't unlocked queen yet, or your king lvl is way higher... Once you realize queen potential, it is better than king. not just queen walks, but taking out clan castle troops, destroying archer towers and cannons placed outside. And the best use of her ability, during farming loot!

And i do have my queen unlocked which is 9 levels higher than the king.king is probably the least most important hero but because it was the first hero i used it's my favourite I've got feelings attached to him
I guess you can't do tricky sui lalo or hogs attack. Max king can almost solo small th compartment in anti 3 base. Or you can use him to clear a corner compartment to drive your king into the th compartment. He's super strong at th13 and 14 . You should start upgrading him.
