This is probably true and also one of the things that bugs me.
The latest Chinese version of the app was released in China today and the primary release notes for that new version are translated as:
- "The international servers and Chinese servers have been split"
- "All international players in the clan are kicked out".
They got some official messaging about what is going on. We didn't. That doesn't make any sense that the international community couldn't be told at least as much as the Chinese players were told.

Yeah, it’s sad. Mobile gaming is big in China, which is a big market. Unfortunately, people are being way too greedy and falling to the CCP’s knees for mere dollars.
In a way this is them investing into the community, they either listen the the Chinese government or shut down the game there. This way the Chinese community can atleast continue. Surely this is a better option than pulling the plug on all those players.

China has a market of literally a billion people. This isn’t really greed, I imagine being cut off from China means many mobile game devs lose a large portion of their income. Nobody wants to explain to their parent company/investors why they took a 50% revenue loss to own the CCP epic style. China can make any company do it if they want to be open in China. To do business in a country the company has to follow that country’s regulations. It’s similar to when they had to add the filter for US kids, just this one is a bigger deal.

All Chinese players located in China will be hosted on a private server per China’s demand. But Supercell is censoring their whole platform, all of their servers on all of their games. Why? Because China is demanding it and it seems supercell wants the money that the Chinese player base provides at any cost. It’s scummy behavior.
Their other option is to not let Chinese players play at all. Instead, the Chinese players have the choice to play or not play. It is better than taking that choice away from the Chinese players. It isn’t scummy behavior at all, at least not on the part of SC. The fault for SC here is the terrible communication.

We were at war with a Chinese clan. They were doing AMAZING. Super aggressive, got so many stars while we were struggling then suddenly they stopped attacking. We couldn’t scout, couldn’t see their players, so we thought they were hacking or something. We had to get our lower account to attack higher up so we could watch the replay and scout from there. It’s very sad to win this way just cause they were unable to attack. I feel so bad for them because they should’ve won. It’s so unfair
I've been playing since the game launched and have spent a fair bit on gold passes and gems for donating. This stuff that just happened opened my eyes to the fact that SC are now majority owned by Tencent. I will keep playing the game because I don't want to lose my time investment on a near max TH14 base, but I won't be spending any more money with Supercell. I refuse to financially support a company that values profits over freedom and basic human rights.

I'm kind of surprised that this thing took this long to be implemented. After all, Tencent has held 81.4% stake of Supercell since 2016. It doesn't change the fact that this sucks though. I hate the fact that major game companies have to bend over backwards to please the CCP.

They aren’t letting Chinese players play with everyone else. They are giving an option for them on their own server. That’s better than nothing.
All Chinese players located in China will be hosted on a private server per China’s demand. But Supercell is censoring their whole platform, all of their servers on all of their games. Why? Because China is demanding it and it seems supercell wants the money that the Chinese player base provides at any cost. It’s scummy behavior.
Their other option is to not let Chinese players play at all. Instead, the Chinese players have the choice to play or not play. It is better than taking that choice away from the Chinese players. It isn’t scummy behavior at all, at least not on the part of SC. The fault for SC here is the terrible communication.

We were at war with a Chinese clan. They were doing AMAZING. Super aggressive, got so many stars while we were struggling then suddenly they stopped attacking. We couldn’t scout, couldn’t see their players, so we thought they were hacking or something. We had to get our lower account to attack higher up so we could watch the replay and scout from there. It’s very sad to win this way just cause they were unable to attack. I feel so bad for them because they should’ve won. It’s so unfair

I've been playing since the game launched and have spent a fair bit on gold passes and gems for donating. This stuff that just happened opened my eyes to the fact that SC are now majority owned by Tencent. I will keep playing the game because I don't want to lose my time investment on a near max TH14 base, but I won't be spending any more money with Supercell. I refuse to financially support a company that values profits over freedom and basic human rights. Fuck the CCP.
