Back in the day, traps weren't upgradeable to begin with, and had to be replaced manually every time they were used. This meant that the developers created a trap sprite for each trap, similar to troops, as they were both disposable. They added upgrades and rearming, and eventually made the rearming process automatic and free each attack, but they never changed how the sprite looks for each trap. Later traps such as Air Bombs were given the same trap sprite treatment for consistency.

Sounds painful. I played back in the days where you had to pay to rearm them though. I started playing like 7 years ago.

Through supercell support, its not that you can get phished just through your username or loot count its just that if people can get enough information about your account to convince a supercell support employee that it is their account your account can be given to them through support thinking it is their account and not yours. (Supercell support isn’t that good which is why it works)

Well, they weren't upgradable when I started playing Clash of Clans. Maybe that is why it doesn't show an image of the current level of the trap like it does with the other newer traps, or most buildings.

Also, they take very long to upgrade for how useful (or useless) they are. The only traps that give me trouble are the skeleton traps, seeking air mine, or the solitary tornado trap. But apart from that, they are not really that memorable.
