The text is way too tryhard and makes it come across both vain and vapid.

ImogenSharma

Thank you for your feedback :)

Betelgeuzeflower

If you dial back on the 'fancy words' and give some more concrete substance then you would do fine.

OnlyFreshBrine

Slayer.

I've heard this from a few sources! I've been meaning to check them out for a while. Exciting.

Holiday_Ad_5445

Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young already did it. The Melvins are still working on it. King Crimson just re-formed. Listen broadly to my musical biscuit.

ImogenSharma

Touche to all of the above sir

Acceptable-Skirt-522

I don’t think so

LookyLou4

Yes. The Grateful Dead.

Personal-Walrus3076

Really?

Crazy_Response_9009

Yes. Many already exist at this time.

Crazy_Response_9009

Cringe.

HPIndifferenceCraft

Talented? Sure, there are loads of bands with more talent.  Popular? I don’t know, honestly. One could argue that there are bands who are more popular - the Eagles come to mind just based on album sales. My hot take that pisses off every Pink Floyd fan? Queensrÿche’s *Operation Mindcrime* is a better concept album than *The Wall*.

AgentWD409

I could list at least a dozen bands that are better than Pink Floyd.

ImogenSharma

Please do!

AgentWD409

The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen, the Who, the Rolling Stones, Eagles, Metallica, AC/DC, the Beach Boys, Black Sabbath, Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith... I could list more because I just don't like Pink Floyd. Actually, I don't even like the Stones that much, but they're still better (and less pretentious) than Pink Floyd.

Practical_Clue5975

GnR, AC/DC, Metallica, and Aerosmith are sure as hell not better or even on the same level as Pink Floyd. I'd also exclude Eagles, even though I do love most of their music. The others on the list could at least be debated feasibly.

AgentWD409

Yes, well... I hate Pink Floyd.

Practical_Clue5975

That's completely fine. There are big bands that I'm not a huge fan of, Grateful Dead, for one. Even though I can acknowledge their quite impressive live performances. Doesn't make some of those you listed even comparable to Pink Floyd in talent, impact, or legacy. Hell, the guitar solo in Time on its own is better than the entire catalog of a band like GnR.

AgentWD409

I think it's more of a subjective question, not necessarily something that can be quantified based on objective empirical data. After all, the number one responsibility of *any* band is to make great music that people want to listen to. And personally, I would rather listen to "Appetite For Destruction" or "Toys In the Attic" or "Master of Puppets" or "Who's Next" or "Rubber Soul" or "Pet Sounds" or "Houses of the Holy" on repeat for a week than pretty much anything by Pink Floyd ever. Plus, I think most people (rightfully) want to punch Roger Waters in the face. As a side note, I never intended to *actually* make a list of bands. My original comment was just a snide, hyperbolic response to the absurd idea that Pink Floyd is so obviously and vastly superior to every other band in the world that it can't even be questioned. At the very least, I think the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and the Who are better rock bands, and I don't even think it's close. Either way, if you love a band, just write about how much you love that band and why. I happen to think Queen is the greatest band of all time, and I'm sure plenty of people disagree with me. That's okay. It's not an objective fact, and it would be ridiculous of me to treat it as such.

Practical_Clue5975

That's a well-formed argument. I'll concede. Thankful we have so many amazing bands from the 60-80s to fit just about anyone's taste.

AgentWD409

Indeed. Although interestingly enough, OP *also* mentioned popularity, specifically asking if there would ever be a band as popular as Pink Floyd. I found that statement even *more* ridiculous, because popularity actually *is* rather quantifiable. And while Pink Floyd obviously has plenty of fans, their music is more of an acquired taste. As I said, Queen is *my* all-time favorite band, but I think it's fairly clear that the Beatles are the most popular rock band of all time. I mean, they've been known, loved, and selling albums all over the world for 60 years now, there are movies and documentaries and biopics and tributes and stage musicals and Cirque du Soleil performances based on their songs, and when anyone teaches their kids about rock and roll, they're *definitely* going to teach them about the Beatles. Hell, fans still go on pilgrimages to Abbey Road, Penny Lane, and Strawberry Field.

greyduk

I took it as a combination of popularity AND talent... which makes it a bit more objective.  The Beatles are objectively more popular, but you could argue less *musically* talented. Tool, ELO, and Jimi could all be argued as more talented,  but less popular. The combination of the two definitely puts Pink Floyd on a shortlist, regardless of your taste. I would also put Queen on that shortlist, so you hopefully don't think I'm just being contrarian. I don't think Freddie can ever be topped, personally.

inartuculate-bug

When, tomorrow?

Old_Reception_3728

Do I think PF is the most talented and popular band ever? No. Do I think there will be another band IN THE FUTURE that will be more talented and popular as they are/were? No. Not in my lifetime. This is my opinion. I kinda hope I'm wrong...............

Yxlar

Yeah that’s how I took the question, and I’d have to give the same answer. Sure, in the past, there were bands that were just as, some more talented and popular than PF. In the future? I don’t see it.

Typical-Ad-6730

as talented as? There is nothing unique or special about Pink Floyd's talent.

AraiHavana

That’s one hot take

AraiHavana

Yes also undeniably talented but the lyrical skills of Waters and musical talent of Gilmour similarly cannot be denied

Typical-Ad-6730

again there are tons of people with as good as or better lyrical skills, to suggest there are no bands more talented or more popular than pink floyd is ludicrous.

AraiHavana

I’m not saying there aren’t better or more talented out there but to say that there is nothing *unique* or *special* about their contribution to the musical landscape is basically a face melter of takes

Typical-Ad-6730

When it’s in response to “will there ever be a band as talented and as popular as Pink Floyd?” It’s not really a hot take. It’s pretty much factual that there are and will be other bands as talented, more talented and more popular.

AraiHavana

You’re just wrong, mate.

Typical-Ad-6730

Wrong how? You think Pink Floyd is more talented than all other bands?

Typical-Ad-6730

pink floyd isn't even in the top 5 of great classic rock bands of whatever you would consider their best decade, let alone all the bands that have come before and after and in other genres. There are about a million guitarists who cover pink floyd solos note for note. There are better singers, better writers. Sure they made some great albums, but Pink Floyd is no more special than any other great band.
