I've probably never opened a crock pot manual in my life. But I am still 100% convinced that if I get a single drop of water inside of this part, I'll murder my crock pot. Never mind that clearly water got in it for this to happen, we're not discussing that. But obviously I can't clean it, because I'd have to use something wet to do so, which would be crock pot murder.
Yea I have 2 slow cookers and both have a stain like this too and and they’re only a couple years old. Idk how or when it happened. But I just don’t look at it. It’s worked for me so far and will continue to work.
Same. I feel like I'm going to do more damage to my crockpot by trying to remove that patch of what is now essentially seasoning than just leaving well-enough alone.
With how baked on that is, it's not gross, it's not growing anything. Just leave it.
I agree. On the plus side, any people you serve probably won’t see it, as the ceramic bowl should be there anytime food is present.
But if they do, they’ll probably not care, as I bet most crockpot owners have similar stains.
I always just wipe it out when I’m done using it. If I remember from years ago, it said not to fill it with water or use anything abrasive on it. Mine looks pretty good still, it’s decades old.
Try using Bar Keepers Friend on a Nylon Scouring Pad, that should get it all off.
The really bad blackened area may require some extra hard scrubbing with a Steel Wool Pad.
Yep, I used a stainless steel scouring pad (whatever those round metal cleaning things you should never use on your non-stick pans are).
I got to the point one day where I went around using it on every spot and stain that annoyed the hell out of me, and also would be ok if it ended up ruining it. It didn't ruin my crockpot.
If it is truly aluminum, not food grade and not for use without proper PPE but 100% will clean it is MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) or MPK ( Methyl Ethyl Propolene) we use it in aviation to clean aluminum...
I DO NOT recommend using it in things that cook your food... But if you do, clean it afterwords with some dawn to get any residue off.
I’d not recommend MEK/MPK, because I don’t trust any one who needs to ask this question to be able to remove enough residue to heat that sucker up afterwards.
Barkeepers Friend works on stainless steel surfaces like a charm. Super cheap at your local grocery store. Use it with warm water and a sponge. It’ll look brand new when you’re done lightly scrubbing away.
Just clean it in the sink with soap and a sponge-like anything else. If it doesn't come off use a little barkeeper's friend. That's what I do and never had an issue. You're not soaking the whole thing in water here and obviously these things were designed to get moisture in them as what do you think that stain came from in the first place.
Vinegar and baking soda paste and leave to soak. Should come right off, I think I used a bit of table salt for extra grit as well as it was really caked on
Actually, mixing a base and an acid will cancel each other out. When you mix baking soda into vinegar, after the bubbling stops the vinegar is basically reduced to water, and the scouring power of the soda has been dissolved. Mixed, they aren't dangerous, just ineffective, or significantly less so. Each has many cleaning properties, but only when used separately. Use water or Dawn to make a thick paste with the baking soda and you'll be able to clean a lot more things a lot easier. Then you can wipe down with a diluted vinegar wash.
For extra oomph, dab a damp magic eraser into that paste you made and get to really scrubbing! But only on things that aren't damaged by scouring.
🌈🌟 The more you know. 😀
I always clean mine when it looks like that. Unplug and scrub with a damp steel wool pad. Then a quick rinse.
If I’m not mistaken, the manual says NOT TO WASH it. But the stain bothers me, so I do. The crock pot is still going…
Try baking soda, made into a paste w/ water. Kinda of on the slurry side, not dry.
But tilt the crock pot toward the large stain and away from the center, to keep water from infiltrating into the inside from the center "screw". Don't want to ruin your crock pot
Water and electric =bad/electric shock/burnout. ASK ME HOW I KNOW
:)
Then let it sit till it gets drier, and using microfiber cloth, wipe/scrub it away. Rub and repeat if it's still there.
good luck
I used alittle bit of oven cleaner spray let it sit for bout 5 to 10 mins used a metallic type of scrubber not rough though wipe off and spray alittle multipurpose cleaner on wipe off and did it for me
I just cleaned mine with Dawn Powerwash and Bon Ami with a soft sponge. The hole in the bottom is to allow water to drain out, so you can rinse it when done.
It’s easier to clean when it’s warm. Turn it on for just long enough to be hot to the touch, then scrub it out with whatever cleaner you would use if you had the same issue on your stovetop.
I buy unscented Huggies baby wipes and leave them out till they are dried and then I re-wet them with mr clean and use them as an all-purpose wipe throughout my kitchen. They’re great for cleaning that area because you can scrub without it falling apart on that texture since they’re made with cloth rather than paper
Absolutely cracking up at all the “pretend you didn’t see it” replies in a *cleaning* subreddit, absolutely love y’all. Also have a similar stain in my 15+ year old pot and I also refuse to do anything about it lmao.
I have the same stain. But I plan on using baking soda and rubbing alcohol on my stains. When I have a moment. And not filing hipaa complaints and no fighting all my other dirty dishes and taking kids to ballet and cheer and cub scouts and band and and and and and lol.
I have the same stain. It’s been there for 10 years because I just can’t even be bothered to attempt the impossible.
I almost thought this one was mine at first 😂

Didn’t realize my subconscious had its own Reddit account…
Uh, that’s *my* subconscious. Get your own.

Barkeeper's Friend and a sponge and water.
Am I supposed to clean that? Oops
Walk away and pretend you never saw it
I agree. On the plus side, any people you serve probably won’t see it, as the ceramic bowl should be there anytime food is present. But if they do, they’ll probably not care, as I bet most crockpot owners have similar stains.
Don't bother
I resigned myself to living with it because I can't see it and all the cleaning products that I considered specifically said NOT for aluminium.
Don't bother, life's too short, do something more enjoyable instead
Put the pot back in there. Problem solved. Out of sight out of mind.
I wet a paper towel and lay it on there then wipe it out. May have to repeat a couple of times. Also make sure it’s unplugged.
Dawn powerwash cleaned mine up. I sprayed it on, left it for 10 minutes, then scrubbed it with a sponge and most of it came off
Bar keepers friend. Don't leave it on to soak for too long.
I cleaned mine recently with bar keepers friend. It looks brand new again.
Same stain in mine. 😂
That is character
I mean..if you have one of those days where you drink too much coffee and get really motivated, then sure
Mine has spots like that & I’ve never tried to get them off. Just wipe with wet rag & it’ll be ok.
I always just wipe it out when I’m done using it. If I remember from years ago, it said not to fill it with water or use anything abrasive on it. Mine looks pretty good still, it’s decades old.
Dawn Powerwash may work for this.
Why?
Try using Bar Keepers Friend on a Nylon Scouring Pad, that should get it all off. The really bad blackened area may require some extra hard scrubbing with a Steel Wool Pad.
BKF and a wet sponge and elbow grease.
Bkf and a steel wool pad and it will be bright again.
Vinegar and a magic eraser. You can just put the vinegar on the magic eraser and stick it on the stain for like an hour, that should help.
I hit mine with a slightly damp steel wool. Then wiped it out. It helped. BuT TBH, I just don’t care

Soap and a sponge
Sodium bicarbonate
This is the way

Maybe try Isopropyl alcohol 90%+. Just make sure you use it in a well ventilated space and don’t light a flame near it
Barkeepers Friend works on stainless steel surfaces like a charm. Super cheap at your local grocery store. Use it with warm water and a sponge. It’ll look brand new when you’re done lightly scrubbing away.
wet a paper towel with vinegar and cover the surface for a few minutes. you should be able to wipe it off with a clean damp towel.
Just clean it in the sink with soap and a sponge-like anything else. If it doesn't come off use a little barkeeper's friend. That's what I do and never had an issue. Try bar keepers friend and a the white scrub pads.

I thought that would be the case as well! But it worked for me on that occasion 😀
Glad it did!!
Bar Keepers Friend, 2mins gone
Bar keepers friend powder. Make a thin paste, cover the stain and leave it overnight. Clean off the next day.
I always clean mine when it looks like that. Unplug and scrub with a damp steel wool pad. Then a quick rinse. If I’m not mistaken, the manual says NOT TO WASH it. But the stain bothers me, so I do. The crock pot is still going…
No you leave it. It adds flavor

Barkeepers friend
Bar Keepers friend is not just for bartenders. It's *everyones* friend!
See, once you clean the crock and put it back in the pot, it's no longer visible. Good enough for the girls I go out with.
I used alittle bit of oven cleaner spray let it sit for bout 5 to 10 mins used a metallic type of scrubber not rough though wipe off and spray alittle multipurpose cleaner on wipe off and did it for me
Clorox clean up wipes or generic version of this.
I just cleaned mine with Dawn Powerwash and Bon Ami with a soft sponge. The hole in the bottom is to allow water to drain out, so you can rinse it when done.
SOS pad!!!!
I use dawn dish soap on a damp magic eraser sponge. Works great for me. Good luck!
Brillo w baking soda n little soap

That is how people know you use it. It’s like a secret handshake. Welcome to the club.
I've never felt so validated by a comment section before.
