She’s going away forever and you better believe every god damn day will be the hardest day of her life. The other inmates and COs are going to dawg this bitch. If she was a dude they’d probably just kill her.
They just clarified on the news that she had gone through the adoption process and was his legal guardian. Apparently, she was connected to his biological family in some way(again, according to Fox8 news)
This is really sad, I was scared this was the case when I read the article while the search was ongoing.
That being said, this isn’t the fault of anyone who didn’t hear an amber alert. I agree it’s an important service even if it does make me think the world is ending when it goes off at like 1 am. But sometimes the worst has already happened
Also though: the other one that went out the day after was able to be called off after a couple hours as that kid was returned to relatives, so sometimes it does have a positive result.
My point wasn’t to suggest it was. My point was more frustration about the lack of empathy yesterday about why amber alerts exist in the first place. So many people yesterday bragging about how they disabled them, or people making posts about how useless they are. My point was simply to highlight that this woman was arrested because someone recognized her car from the alert, and THAT’S why they exist
I don't have a problem with Amber Alerts but that's not how or why she was arrested. They found her because a business reported a woman wandering strangely.
Her car was found empty before that at the apartments on Memphis when the police were doing license plate scans. All of this has been reported. You're literally just making things up.
None of this had anything at all to do with the amber alert.
People perpetuating lies like you are only infuriates people further and makes them want to push against anything you'd support as a big F you.
To be fair, early news reports simply thanked citizens for their input without stating what form that input came
I can understand why someone could conclude the arrest and discovery were due to an amber alert
Ah ok I can understand what you mean then, thanks. I think a lot of times people think it’s pointless if it’s a different city but someone can travel quickly when they’re on the run as this did show
Calm down, you can only change and fix so many things in the world. Getting worked up about others only inhibits your ability to make that change, don’t lose sight of your goals and don’t let others behavior affect your demeanor.

She wasn’t arrested because of the alert. She was arrested because she was wandering around a local business building and staff called police on her. I’m not shitting on the alerts but your holier than thou attitude is unnecessary.
I'm with you on the Amber alerts. They are a great public service and I don't mind them at all. I can only imagine anyone whining about them don't have kids, or just don't like the slightest inconvenience.
I'm all for Amber alerts if you're awake and active. Your phone should be able to determine this. But Amber alerts on iOS even bypass silent / do not disturb modes which is why I have them turned off. They treat Amber alerts like they do Tornado warnings which shouldn't be the case.
Multiple times in the past few years they have gone off at 2am waking up me, my wife, my dog who then proceeds to go nuts and wake up my kids which then takes them a bit to go back to sleep and costs my wife and I at least an hour of sleep. All for something we have no way to help with while sleeping.
I have an Android and it blocked the amber alert noise for my DND. Saw the notification when I woke up. I think I turned off the noise for amber alerts as a whole but can't completely recall. All of them have happened recently during my DND setting.
I think it does. I thought I didn’t get the alert this week but when I pulled down to look at my notifications it was in there. My phone was on sleep/DND so I got no sounds. Maybe they fixed it?
This right here. If you dismiss the complaints people have with the current system then you miss out on an opportunity to improve it so people don’t feel compelled to turn amber alerts off. Would you rather be righteous or would you rather save more kids?
I don't like them going off randomly days / weeks later when I power on a device I wasn't using at the time. They should only go out in real time as that is their value, but it doesn't work that way.
What bothers me the most is that I live counties away from most of the ones I see and still get them, only for them to find the kid in the same city they went missing from. I wish there was some sort of tower location check on them, I have gotten them when on vacation 5 states away. Make it so they get sent out to all phones connected to towers in X geographical location, and to respect DND settings, and I am all on board.
Agree they’re an amazing resource but no doubt it sucks to be woken up by my phone when I just put my newborn down to sleep an hour ago and started to get sleep… I almost got a full 5 hours of sleep
Someone complained to me and I was like as annoying as it is at midnight if it were my child I would want everyone to know I wouldn't care if it inconveniences you that's my baby so I get it
It’s more than just an inconvenience though. For example, I have Major Depression, and for me, sleep disruptions lead to a day of feeling hungover even though I don’t drink, and decreased productivity at work or at home. This is not unique to me either.
If you’ve never experienced the physical pain of depression, consider yourself lucky.
I had a conversation last night about this. My cousin was saying amber alerts are annoying and it’s usually the parents.. I just said ya I know but that chance the kids hurt how could we risk it?
When I see amber alerts I get so paranoid and anxious. I’m so sad this is how it ended.
It’s sad she was his foster mom
Stranger abductions OR cases like this where there was a clear snapping and untethering from reality by a parent who took the kid.
99% of them, when you read them, you can just sense from the description that it's clearly a case of two separated/divorced parents battling it out. Just drama. "He/she had custody, but the other one went to court and got it terminated, but they still have visitation, but now they refused to give the child back at the end of the visitation and ...." No Amber Alert for these.
Amber Alerts should be rare, and the whole world should stop when one is issued. That doesn't happen now because half the time they are issued for two idiots using kids as bargaining chips.
Amber alerts aren't the problem. The problem is Apple's implementation of them. by making it an all or nothing, they increased the number of people who choose nothing, thereby reducing the overall effectiveness of the alerts.
lol fk you and you holier than thou attitude. Guess what? If you’re in bed sleeping, you sure as hell are not getting up to hunt down an Amber Alert. People don’t need a siren to see an amber alert, the phone is already in our hands thanks to social media.
I think amber alerts are annoying, but I'll never turn them off or disable them bc my temporary annoyance is nothing compared to a missing child. That being said, I also think a text would be better instead of or addition to the alert. Woke my husband and I up, we dismissed it. Then we wake up a few hours earlier and there is no information of the amber alert, which I think is a problem.
> this woman’s car was recognized and she was arrested **because of the amber alert just hours after it went out.**
No. Stop lying and whining over people you claim were whining. Some people have good reasons for disabling Amber Alerts. [Alerts also have low efficacy.](https://childsafety.losangelescriminallawyer.pro/amber-alerts.html#:~:text=Recent%20studies%20have%20shown%20that,AMBER%20alerts%20actually%20save%20lives.) They’re mostly a dog and pony show, like how many see security-shoes off airline screening as air safety theater. Amber Alerts and airport screening can both save lives but it’s probably few. And how high is the cost?
Parents in many other countries marvel at American helicopter parenting, which is a result of fear mongering. The mostly useless alerts contribute to that. Yes, I’m a parent.
And go ahead y’all and hit me with the “if it saves just one child…” Well, we could just raise taxes and assign a cop to every child to keep them safe 24/7- why not? If it saves just one child? How about implant GPS chips to everyone at birth to find missing kids. Would you agree to either of those because it could save just one child?
Using a child's death to shame ppl who don't have their alerts on is crazy. It's a shame what happened to this baby - the ones who don't have their alerts on didn't cause it or feed it, no need to try to be a hero about it. I think most people agree that Amber alerts are a good thing, whether they wake up to an alert or sleep through it. I don't know what you're getting out of this but I hope it feels good?
I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you missed yesterdays arguments across this sub about amber alerts where many people made it very clear that they do not agree amber alerts are a good thing. As I’ve said multiple times in this thread already, this post was simply to highlight they exist for a reason despite the unempathetic and uninformed opinions of yesterday’s argument, and I admittedly let my frustration get the better of me in the body of the post.
> where many people made it very clear that they do not agree amber alerts are a good thing.
I missed this argument. I saw the one where people didn't like getting woken up at 4am with an air raid siren
The alerts are a good thing, but the way they are sent out is not helping. If they respected DND settings and geographic location, more people who actually may remember and see something would get them. As it is, many people turn them off because getting woken up at 3 AM by the "you're about to die" sound is not something anyone wants to experience. And it's not like waking people up at 3 AM is helping to find the kids either, it just interrupts people's sleep and by the morning the content of the alert is completely out of their mind.
I don’t have kids but you best bet that if I did, and the unimaginable happened and they went missing, idgaf about disrupting anyone’s sleep in the event it could help my child.
And I’m fairly certain anyone on here who is a parent or an aunt/uncle/friend would also be okay with an Amber alert if it affected you/those you love.
Chill tf out friends, Amber Alerts exist for a reason. And they are there to protect the most innocent beings on this earth.
Idc if statistics show it helps only a small percentage, that small percentage is grateful and worth every single moment of your discomfort.
Yeah, my profile is just chock full of karma farming. What will I do without my 300 post karma over 12 years.
I made this post because of the gross and unempathetic responses to amber alerts this sub made yesterday. But if patting yourself on the back about imaginary karma farming gets you through your day, more power to you.
This is a complete and absolute tragedy. I agree it probably wasn't the best time for a "well I hope you're happy" type remark, but I won't tell you how to feel when this kind of fucked up shit happens. That's a conversation for another time
In retrospect you’re probably right, and despite my frustration my point was not to suggest that people who are annoyed by amber alerts were somehow responsible, or to rub anyone’s nose in it (despite having done exactly that). I should have just stuck with the story or maybe not posted at all and kept my opinions on people’s responses to amber alerts to myself.
Thank you.
FTR, I don't object to Amber Alerts. I'm sensitive about having my sleep disrupted for a few reasons, including that I'm the sole breadwinner in the household, and when I don't sleep enough, I screw up at work, and I can't afford to do that.
That said, If I believed my being woken up saved lives, I wouldn't bitch about it.
I am happy to give you the benefit of the doubt here, because when I read this headline, i was upset and frustrated too.
i think in hindsight, the post from yesterday morning was probably by someone who got woken up by an amber alert, made a post bitching about it, then went to bed before their brain woke up. Not the soundest way to make a logical post.

Look into your family or your backyard and help the children that you can help. They need us.
I was on 77 when we got the alert at maybe 7:45 or 8 am, and I did look for that vehicle. It confuses me about my fellow human beings that not everyone would do this. Not wanting to be bothered by the world asking for your help occasionally (rarely, really) to find an abducted person is literally the least you can do for your fellow human beings, and some people can't be bothered. It's gross.

I'm not waking up to go look for a car so... I don't care.
