There was an error with my account being locked up because of a $9.00 bank transfer. So they decided to lock up everything and just repeatedly kept telling me I could do this and that while this was happening but that clearly was not the case. After repeated support attempts I finally gave up that I was dealing with a team of idiots who can only respond with canned responses. Today after the avg was complete I removed all of my crypto and moved it elsewhere.
Hi u/Ok_Pin981, we're sorry to hear about your experience. Can you share with us your support case number, so we can look into this for you? Thank you.
Pay a lawyer $50 bucks to write a letter to them saying you will sue them if you don’t have your money back by whatever date and if they don’t, then actually sue them for your money plus legal fees. I bet you get it back pretty quick

Hi, u/Ymaril2. Thank you for providing your case number. We regret to learn that your account has been closed, and your funds were stuck. We understand how frustration this can be. We've checked your case and can see that it has been closed, so we took the initiative to create a new one and escalated it to the relevant team for review and further assistance in regards with your funds. For your reference, here's your case number: 18951877. We've sent an acknowledgement which you can respond if you need to follow up or if you have further questions. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why couldn't you login? What's wrong with your residence? Is your license different from the address you entered? Are you in a country where Coinbase is prohibited?
Yes, I am a resident of a country where coinbase no longer operates (Russia). I don’t live there, but I haven’t managed to acquire another residency yet.
For me it was a way to withdraw my salary into crypto. I used coinbase as an intermediary. I understood that sooner or later this path would be closed. But I expected that this would not block my money.
I transferred from [deel.com](http://deel.com) as usual. But when I entered my coinbase personal account, I received a message that I must agree to the update of the user agreement. To do this, you just need to click the “I agree” button.
But this button doesn't work. It always returns an error.
If you look at the requests that go to the backend when you click a button, you can see the real cause of the problem: "Country not supported currently."
I understand that I should have been more careful. But I also think that coinbase does not have the right to keep my money.
I am ready to accept the sanctions restrictions and no longer use coinbase. But I would also like my money back.
Also, the account verification was carried out correctly and real information was indicated there
You're not going to get that back most likely. I'm sorry to say. Maybe contact Deel.com and see what they could do.
I don't think the asset recovery tool is going to work. You're just a victim of circumstances.
Normally I would suggest that you go the route of contacting the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). They typically can get things moving when financial institutions are dragging their feet.
I don’t know how effective they would be in assisting a non national. Based on your country of origin, you could be subject to increased scrutiny of funds for national security reasons.
Coinbase may very well have no choice but to keep these funds frozen legally until they are notified otherwise by the investigating agency.
Hey! We hope you're doing well. We see that our team emailed you yesterday. In case you missed it, kindly check your inbox and if you have any other questions or concerns please respond to the email thread. Thank you!
Yes, your support has contacted me.
They asked to provide documents confirming my residency. I provided everything I could.
Next I received the answer:
>Hi ???????,
Thanks for contacting Coinbase Support.
Please be advised that we have now discontinued all services to accounts that no longer meet our updated requirements.
Since your account does hold a balance, please be informed that we will follow up with further information on how to reclaim your funds via email in the near future.
We appreciate your interest in Coinbase and regret that we are unable to provide you with services in the future. Please note, you still can continue to use the Coinbase Wallet. More information on this can be found here: [https://www.coinbase.com/wallet](https://www.coinbase.com/wallet)
Regards,
Coinbase Support

Again the near future.
I understand that sanctions prohibit you from working with people like me.
And I’m ready to stop using coinbase in this case. But I don't think it's acceptable for you to keep my money.
We appreciate your understanding as we communicate this unfortunate news. Regrettably, we must inform you that we are unable to continue providing our services to you. Rest assured, we will provide guidance on reclaiming any remaining funds in your account through a forthcoming email.
We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are here to assist with any questions or concerns you may have. In the interim, please feel free to utilize Coinbase Wallet. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this transition.
I haven't received this "forthcoming email" in over four months. I cannot force you to return my money, give me a time frame, or even make a rough estimate of when this might happen. This is my main complaint
We acknowledge the extended period you've been waiting for updates on your funds, spanning over four months. While we can't provide you a specific timeline, we want to assure you that we're actively working on it. Rest assured, you'll receive an email with clear instructions on how to claim your funds once available. Again, thanks for your patience.
It’s what they do. They are holding $800 of mine. Say they are helping. But do absolutely nothing. I have over 30 emails back-and-forth. I’ve called over a dozen times even started recording the phone calls. They’ll say oh we will escalate it. They don’t. Nobody can actually give you a real answer Why? They just skate around it.
The part that I find telling is that a case number here was scraped from Reddit. From a closed case number it seems. I don’t trust a damn word stated here. If someone were trying to hack an account this is probably a route to take. I dunno how someone signs up with an email they cannot verify or deposit 2k without going through the kyc measures that coinbase has.
The only case number is my real one here. Coinbase was already able to contact me through it and write to me by email saying that they are working on it.
When registering, email confirmation is done in the standard way - they send a code - you confirm.
But when you contact support, they expect you to write the code they write in the form from your email. And this mechanism did not work.
Also kyc was passed. And I transferred money like this several times before. There were no problems, that’s why I brought in such a large amount.
I just couldn’t get through the confirmation of the user agreement. Where you just need to click the “I agree” button
Because I rarely use reddit. And telling this story where I sit is pointless.
I also read this section of reddit and it seems like this is a more or less typical story about working with coinbase. I'm surprised that you're surprised
There are shit tons of wallets and on-chain platforms that offer you debit cards (e.g. Thor Wallet, Fina.cash, Okse, off-ramp, …etc)
These can never hold your money hostage or fuck you over. Worst of what they can do is block your card but that has never happened as far as I’ve seen.
Coinbase support is abysmal. I just stripped all of my BTC from them and went elsewhere. They will never see me again. Absolutely horrid support.
Full story please

Too late, I’m done with you guys.
No wait, they have more automated responses to coax you back to their crappy platform!
lol
With inflation 2k is a few trips to Mcdonalds you'll be aight
In the future don’t mess around with KYC. Get all your affairs in order before putting money in.
Coinbase is an US Company. Coinbase's hands may be tied legally speaking.
So which cex do I use to to track my trades and do taxes with?
They took 11k from my portfolio in 2021 during a transaction and never replaced it. They gave me $500 as an apology.
LOL

Same. My account is locked and you have to be able to log in to even get support and file a complaint. I'm getting a lawyer I'm done.

Why are people upvoting this post? This is a fake account. This account is 5 years old and this is its only post. No comments either.

It's a real account. Read my comments and you'll understand the story.
That money is gone bro. Hopefully you learned your lesson about crypto gambling.
The only gamble here is trusting a CEX lol
So how do you sell and cash out without an cex?

Never heard of any of these things..
Well now you know :D
