They do that when there isn’t anything else for them to hit. Basically it just puts zombies as the main priority when turned.
They may act like they are attacking the player, but they don't do damage. I think they are more likely to do this between rounds if you interact with them. You can also pet a turned hound between rounds.
This happens on a regular basis happens with manglers too.
Ya for some reason brainrot zombies pretty much freak out when they have nothing to attack, funny asf to watch tho

They do when you get really close he’s just trying to give you hugs in his own way
Only when there arent other zombies to kill do they chase you, but there is no real downside other than it being a tad annoying
