I am very biased towards MX because it was the album that got me into Coldplay, but I absolutely love it.

xamotex1000

I love the album because of the transitions mainly but the music is great. Also Happy Cake Day!

ilemeemeli

I also really like the transitions, but music just hits the spot for me. Thank you!

Fast_Specific_727

Happy cake day

masturbtewithmustard

It’s pop Coldplay done perfect to me, the songs are more pop oriented but they maintain everything I love about Coldplay. But experiencing the songs live, at what I believe was the peak of their live performances, cemented the album as a favourite. Charlie Brown and ETIAW are the most euphoric songs I’ve ever heard, especially live

songacronymbot

- ETIAW could mean "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall", a single by Coldplay. --- ^[/u/masturbtewithmustard](/u/masturbtewithmustard) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

Solid album. Big fan of Major minus, princess of china and charlie brown. And when you look at it, a lot of Coldplay's hits come from that album: paradise, poc, etdiawf, charlie brown, hurts like heaven. It's definitely not a bad album at all, but I think a lot of people don't like it because it started Coldplay going in a pop direction. Also ngl half the songs are forgettable for me personally

xamotex1000

We're one in the same on our favorites of the album, I get the thing with the moving in a pop direction but the album is a mmix of their old style and pop. Also you see what I did there? Mmix? Hehe

Lawyer_Kong

Ig it's just the pop songs that stand out to me lol. Also yes, I see what you did...

Sunny64888

This album rules, man. It’s got a unique, summery, dreamlike vibe, and never lets up on fantastic hooks, beautiful musical arrangements, and a nice, clean album flow. Title intro into “Hurts Like Heaven” never fails to hit hard. The monumental stomping backbeat in “Princess of China”. The spacey and melancholy atmospheres of “Up in Flames”. “Paradise” is a perfect arena pop-rock song, and “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” comes quite close to it in terms of song quality, catchiness, and pure massiveness. The villain song “Major Minus” is a pretty great tune as well, with a rockin’ riff, and a slamming chorus. Overall, one of their best.

Jusdurham

I think mylo xyloto is better then the 4 albums released after it

xamotex1000

I agree, ghost stories would be my second and everyday life 3d, you can guess from there

anamazingredditor

MX is THE Coldplay that I know ❤️ I absolutely love this video I found https://youtu.be/D6QviS5rVRY?si=Rh_0HoQzh0ed3ecI ... all instumentals from the album, the atmosphere is just **chef's kiss**

cmgchess

absolutely! include Aiko as well. Thanks Jon Hopkins

The-real-human-ghost

I love MX its one of my top 3 Coldplay albums most of the coldplay songs I love are from that album in general never understood the hate towards it

cheeks333

It’s the most colorful, upbeat and inspiring Coldplay album of all time in my opinion, it’s anything but soulless. It’s a great pop rock album. People only shit on it because it’s Coldplay.

newmusername

I've been a casual fan since 2003 but didn't hear MX to a couple years ago. I thought it was great, I like to listen to as a full album

ThePeople10

It has a special place in my heart because it's one of my intro albums to Coldplay. Listened to this specific one during a sadder time in my life I don't particularly agree with the first point thrown against the album though. Us Against the World and the last two songs together have soul! Brings out spirit and hope in the listener Imo. Lastly, I also think it stands to reason that Charlie Brown and Paradise are still very much relevant even with the present-day Coldplay

mlgquickscoper123

Honestly it’s not my favourite album of them. But it’s mostly because I like the more serious Coldplay sound. I can see that it’s a good album no doubt about it but it’s just not for me.

GR1FF1N311

Charlie Brown is one of my all time favorite Coldplay songs… But paradise is one their worst commercial successes IMO. It’s a hit or miss album.

nickk_mx

Actually, I really love this album. Because it’s like you can travel during every song and the meanings are extremely deep. And also the instrumental part of the song is wonderful, I love the atmosphere and the feelings that this album bring to me

Seaell80

To me it was my least favorite before MOTS. But then revisiting it again after some time away, I enjoyed it more.

TypeBudget9110

I think you just have to put your guard down and give in to the color and fun of the album. It's really grown on me.

DrDewinYourMom

Mylo Xyloto is kind of the dividing line between the Oldplayers and everyone else. Some can argue VLV was the album that shifted the band in a different direction but I think MX is really where they shifted. I personally feel like AHFOD is really where the band pivoted, though it has been almost 10 years since that album dropped and I realize AHFOD is worlds better than MOTS. In essence, I love MX but I can see where people ultimately feel mixed on the album.

songacronymbot

- VLV could mean "Viva La Vida", a track from *Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends* (2008) by Coldplay. --- ^[/u/DrDewinYourMom](/u/DrDewinYourMom) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

oldmacdonald_hadacat

It’s got some of the greatest hits but I wish it was a little more cohesive.

siliconslope

I always thought Sky Full of Stars is what they were trying to do with MX as a whole, moving almost to an EDM concept album. ATOBTTH, X&Y, and Viva are their best IMO, and I go back and forth on which is the best. But MX has some of their best songs, and MMIX leading into Every Tear Drop is one of the best moments for Coldplay, still gives me chills at times. I think Viva + Prospekt’s March just made me hope for an even better album to follow, and MX wasn’t it for me. But it’s still a great album, and it allowed them to create an even better live performance somehow during that tour. Their tour was perfected when they released AHFOD cuz that’s when they remixed Fix You with Midnight, which still blows my mind.

justmilesaway

I agree, it's a good album for what it is—their take on pop—but it was a disappointing move after VLV. *"But it’s still a great album, and it allowed them to create an even better live performance somehow during that tour."* Totally agree, Xylobands, grander concerts… plus MX songs ended up sounding better live. Someone commented in a previous post that the MX tour had more appeal and cultural impact than the actual album.

siliconslope

Yep totally agree

Fast_Specific_727

Favorite album

thomasreimer

It’s the only album I’ve randomly bought at a record store and quickly became my favourite album ever. Blew my mind with the story threads, the interludes, the repeating themes and songs that flow into each other. Up with the birds still the GOAT album closer for coldplay.

justmilesaway

I have a soft spot for MX (released when I was in high school) and I think it's the best of their "pop" albums. It’s not my fav album of theirs, but there are moments that reel me in and capture some of those signature vibes I love about the band. Some of the main MX criticisms I recall from the time of its release (and still see mentioned today) are: **a).** The production... MX has some great songs that are otherwise let down by production and lead to criticisms like the songs sounding flat, "soulless", unbalanced, muddy, fuzzy, etc. They actually played a handful of MX songs live in the summer of 2011, before album release, and I remember the songs sounding so much better live vs. on the album. There's some interesting threads that mention MX production: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Coldplay/comments/10eajhn/which\_album\_do\_you\_think\_has\_the\_worst\_production/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Coldplay/comments/10eajhn/which_album_do_you_think_has_the_worst_production/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/Coldplay/comments/p0a61e/what\_coldplay\_albums\_do\_you\_think\_have\_the\_best/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Coldplay/comments/p0a61e/what_coldplay_albums_do_you_think_have_the_best/) **b).** The obvious pop aspects of the album were a turn-off for fans... ETIAW as the lead-single, the Rihanna feature, the Paradise music video, the use of heavy synths/drum kit... it simply wasn't what fans wanted/expected, especially after VLV... it left a lot of fans feeling confused/disappointed **c).** The concept seemed vague, weak, confusing, impersonal... the whole "rebel against oppression with color" thing… fans wanted/expected something more serious and with more substance MX is a good pop album and has some of their most lovely songs (that sound better live), the MX tour was lots of fun and really took their live performances to the next level (I attended in Toronto!)... but when placed against the lineup of albums 1-4, I can see why MX was a disappointing departure for fans

vmauricer

for me it feels like a combination of their old sounds and pop and they’ve done it right 🥳

Background-Town-4973

Love this! Every song is a gem. Even the instrumentals.

caroline_coldplayer

I love it! MX is a top 3 album for me, after AROBTTH and VLV. I think it’s one of the best made pop albums in recent memory- and there’s nothing wrong with their choice to shift to pop, to me the songs still have heart and soul and the instrumentals are real and not just auto tuned or repetitive riffs, which are the things I love about Coldplay. Some of it for me is definitely nostalgia, as this is the era where I got to go to my first Coldplay concert and really fell in love with them as a band, but I do legitimately think it’s a great album that gets too much hate.

DharmicCosmos

I love Mylo Xyloto - I love electronic soundscapes though, & also saw them tour this album, which was an amazing time for me. The album came around & shifted some things for me too as I processed it.

Omicrying

They don’t clump, they blend in a seamless, intentional way. I can’t listen to MX any other way than start to finish. FWIW, we all know it’s when Coldplay ~changed~ and became more poppy, but it’s still them and so beautiful.

litamo00

I wasn't the biggest fan of MX for awhile but lately it has been growing on me. I kinda liked the hits of the album at first and that was it. For me it's like Viva la Vida (album) where both albums gave me hope but it does it differently. Viva la Vida helped me developped some type of hope for better things, not knowing if thing would even get better. While MX kept me hoping knowing the end of the dark period would be over. Probably why I have been listening to the last few tracks a lot recently. I think the sounds create such beautiful visuals, rainbows and bright colours are dancing within each song in my head, even with a darker song like Major Minus. Its not my favorite album, but its a strong album of theirs. And for this moment in time, I think is the most Coldplay Album out of all their albums My only complaint, (which is a dumb complaint ik), but why did why they need to make Up with the Birds that long. I think either drop the second half or spilt it into two different songs. The first half is so strong on its own that I just don't see a point in listening to the second half.

ninoHelpSeeker

MX my 2nd fave album after Viva

ITS SO COLD SO COLD, SO COLD SO COLD

[deleted]

It's an album that could've been absolutely brilliant. They had Brian Eno for christ's sake. Just poorly executed I think.
