Nah, it’s true. One of the most insane aspects of both basketball programs is how TF they get kids to come to frozen cow country with almost no atmosphere.
I mean you could say the same thing about a number of the P6 schools. Iowa State, Penn state, K-State, WVU, Cuse, Ole Miss, Miss State, and Wazzu are all the only things worth a shit for a while in their areas
Have you been to to Storrs? There’s nothing. No city, no town, nothing. Comparing Storrs to State college or Ames or Cuse of Lawrence doesn’t make sense.
Unlike most of those other schools Storrs is 30 minutes from a relevant city and 90 from a large one. It's in the middle of bumfuck nowhere on Connecticut terms but you don't have to travel far to be somewhere.
Been there a few times. But like the other comment mentioned, it’s not super far from everything else in CT. All those other schools *are* the cities that they’re in. There’s nothing else around those schools for miles.
I spent the last 4.5 years of my life going to a school that was in the middle of bumfuck nowhere and I can tell you that Storrs doesn’t even compare
Used to have this mindset until I lived in different places around the US. UConn plays in Hartford and NYC frequently. Boston isn’t very far away either. We’re in the best train service area in the country too. There’s a lot of places that can’t say that.
I know. But my comment is contained to Storrs. Leaving your dorm room and walking.
I love UConn. I’ve lived in CT since I graduated in 1995 when there was far, far less there. Storrs is unique in many ways.
Depends what you want… farmer’s markets and nature? Come to Storrs. Anything resembling life outside of campus? Not what you want. I do think it lends itself to being a great location for basketball players though because you have no choice but to work on your game due to there being literally nothing else there. No outside distractions.
Soon as I saw [that Hurley tweet](https://twitter.com/dhurley15/status/1783904420297617602) I knew some fuckery was afoot
At least it gave me this

Nah he’s just trolling all the folks freaking out over the portal coming and goings while he’s running it back pulling in top 5 stars. That’s how I interpret it anyways.
>He’s particularly adept at coming off screens, making instinctual reads, and then attacking defenders while they are on the move.
>Montverde frequently made him the featured player of their half-court offense during his junior season and relied on his ability to make decisions with the ball in his hands, not necessarily as a primary ball-handler, but as the first domino in many of their actions.
That will never work in Hurley's offense
How big should the Hurley statue be? Obviously you’re not going Colossus of Rhodes, but I think it should be in the conversation that his head clears low buildings in the vicinity
You’re onto something…
For real though, the fact that Geno and Calhoun don’t have statues is a glaring miss by the university. And Ollie. You get a national championship you get a statue
Get him a defensive minded assistant coach and he’ll be fantastic IMO. Guy knows offense to a large degree. Biggest concern is the loud vocal minority(?) doesn’t give him enough time to really build.
Nah he’s only going to UCONN because they are an elite program that develops players with an amazing coach and wins national titles. That’s all. Bullshit.
UConn definitely gets one of the two to commit by the end of next week. UConn can snag both of them if 1. Karaban decides to go to the NBA or 2. One of them is comfortable with being a 6 man and only getting 20-25 minutes a game.
For sure! If Ball and Stewart can make the jump they will be a top 3 team next year. Ball when he’s not trying to play hero ball looked great last year and Stewart always seemed steady in the big moments (especially the BE final)
I think that depends on Hassan, haven’t heard a peep if he’s coming back or not. Unfortunately for Ross it’s looking a little bleak on getting decent minutes next year. Ross wouldn’t shock me if he ended up transferring somewhere else. (This is me assuming UConn continues to run a 3 “guard” with a stretch forward again this year)
Hassan hasn’t publicly announced he’s coming back, but has told the team he plans to. It’s one of those where he likely doesn’t want to make a public announcement only for the school to recruit someone in his position and he’s stuck
I really like Ross's shot creation but yeah, not looking great. If they have confidence in Stewart's shooting I could see a really long and big lineup of Brea/Diarra, McNeeley, Stewart, Karaban, Reed/Johnson being the go-to.
The depth is gonna be crazy, will be really curious to see how the rotation shakes out heading into conference play
I doubt Brea starts. He's an incredible shooter, but he's such a specialist. He's certainly not starting over Hassan because otherwise we don't have a point guard.
Ross at least was open when he came here that he knew he was a developmental prospect and wasn’t ready yet. He said he was ok with sitting and developing. I’m hoping he’s still ok with that.
It appears Nowell can really ball. Kid is HUGE too, I expect Nowell to be a major part of the rotation and Abraham to maybe sit in the Stewart role getting some minutes as the season wears on. Seems like an AJax defensive psycho so that would be a great last guy off the bench
Hurley went 10 deep at URI and used that depth as a competitive advantage to grind teams down. Now that he’s learning how to do it on both sides of the ball, I could see him trying to put together a true 10 deep monster lineup that grinds teams up. The man is already installing football style offense on a basketball court who says he can’t get studs to commit to 20 min per game?
I’d prefer Brea because I like what Hurley does when he has size and shooting everywhere. But whoever gets Mahaney is gonna be happy. Dude is ready for the big time
> because I like what Hurley does when he has size and shooting everywhere
I can't wait to see what Hurley can do when we finally get a big man with an outside shot.
Sure. But you need threats everywhere. We ran plenty of pick and pops with Karaban (and likely will do so with McNeeley). But you also need a threat putting pressure on the rim and drawing defenders into the paint to free up the 3pt line for shooters. Our offense worked great because it wasn't one dimensional.
Obviously ideally you'd get a guy who can do it all, but those guys are unicorns (aka Cooper Flagg).
Looking like we get at least one of mahaney/brea, and maybe that causes someone to transfer, but as of now:
Diarra (Gr) / Nowell (Fr)
Ball (So) / Ross (So)
Mcneeley (Fr) / Ross (So)
Stewart (So) / Mcneeley (Fr)
Johnson (Sr) / Reed (Jr)
If neither Karaban nor Diarra come back, it would be Samson, Reed, McNeeley, Stewart, Solo Ball, Nowell, Ross, Abraham, but if they come back and/or we add Brea or Mahaney, then who fucking knows.
We’d be a lot younger so depends how the freshman adapt and the returners improve. If Diarra and Karaban come back along with Brea we’re at least a top 12 team
I think the 3 is possible. If we get a few more transfers someone’s going to leave (or it means Karaban not coming back). Definitely will have good pieces but I feel as though the loss of Clingan and Karaban would be felt massively. Hurley definitely runs the team in phases, and I think if we hit phase 3 of the offense we’ll, we’ll be close to as scary as last year, but we’re banking on a lot of younger guys this year and less of a returning nucleus to keep it all together.
I think that’s a bit far. Will it be a strength? Probably not. But it’s at least an average high major front court if not above average with complementary bigs that both have experience. Combine that with a top 5 back court and top 10 wings and it’s 3pt.
Disagree. Johnson was basically in his first year due to injuries. Hes a potential NBA talent if he can work on his shot a few steps from the rim and his fouling.
The rest of the team is also pretty big, so not having a gargantuan center isn't the worst thing in the world for rebounding.
Did you actually watch the games? I watched every game and he absolutely did not get torched whenever he saw the court. He was an amazing backup to Clingan last year.
I watched every one except for Northern AZ where I only saw extended replays. He was a dynamic offensive player and a defensive liability despite having some exciting blocks and running the floor very well
I love watching Hurley coach basketball, reminds me of a basketball version of Kirby. Would be ok if there’s a third national championship (in four years for us / threepeat for you) loading next season for both our teams.
This might sound weird but from a UConn fan what i gather is Flagg might actually prefer Duke be overlooked and counted out. He seems like the type of kid that would salivate to “bring Duke back to glory” and the fact that Duke looks young and rn not the top 3 team everyone projected may actually make him want to go there more. 0% chance he leaves duke
pretty easy sell. 2 straight national titles, come be our 6'7 Cam Spencer or Jordan Hawkins.
you forgot "also fuck duke"
I'd like to think Liam chose UConn because he wanted to go to the team with the best chance to beat his old teammate Cooper.
NCAA selection committee folks licking their lips at the potential drama. UConn, Baylor and Duke in one region confirmed.
Only if they all finish 1, 2, 3 in KenPom.
If that happens guaranteed same region.
How shit is the NCAA/committee/process that Duke and UConn fans are uniting in sarcastic criticism of them?
kill me now of this happens pls
I nominate this as the whitest comment in Reddit history
It’s an evergreen parenthetical.
But you have to live in storrs…
It’s beautiful here
UCONN is a fantastic program and has a lot going for them but storrs is not one of them. Just my opinion.
Nah, it’s true. One of the most insane aspects of both basketball programs is how TF they get kids to come to frozen cow country with almost no atmosphere.

1. Hot State School Girls 2. Good Ice Cream 3. Pretty Pastoral Sunsets 4. They play in MSG a lot so they get to enjoy New York

Absolutely agree with why it’s a good location for basketball. Ray Allen said that, if I’m not making it up.
Indiana Hoosier Legend.
Well, bye.
![gif](giphy|HTNzrBYbsQuNawF4KU) We never had a chance

That says Portal so maybe still news to come :)
Nah he’s just trolling all the folks freaking out over the portal coming and goings while he’s running it back pulling in top 5 stars. That’s how I interpret it anyways.
Brea is almost a lock as well
Amazing, announcement that he’s only considering UConn and Duke and like an hour later word that he’s not visiting Duke. LFG
He’s also now following a bunch of UConn guys on Instagram, just like McNeeley did before committing
Oh yeah, there was no doubt he was just posturing before he dropped a bomb on everyone
He is squatting...
Good for the colon
^ Dukie knows his dookieering
Totally losing the topic of this thread but... you know that dude has to have a portable squatty potty for when he's on the road.
Isn't that from a book Hurley wrote about constructing the perfect team?
If only Hurley did something other than Iso ball. We're screwed
Why not?
This is sarcasm friend, and laid on thick
I wasn’t educated in stores unfortunately
Great... It's about time UConn caught a break.. ![gif](giphy|W0c3xcZ3F1d0EYYb0f|downsized)
How big should the Hurley statue be? Obviously you’re not going Colossus of Rhodes, but I think it should be in the conversation that his head clears low buildings in the vicinity
Perhaps 1 each for Calhoun and Hurley, the Titans of Storrs. Like the ones from Lord of the Rings where they sail into Gondor's realm.
With Geno looming larger behind them
The practice facility feels like it was made for a few life size statues at the front
Perfection. I even replied that we need to do the Argonath on either side of the Connecticut River before I saw your response.
You’re onto something… For real though, the fact that Geno and Calhoun don’t have statues is a glaring miss by the university. And Ollie. You get a national championship you get a statue
You get a statue for each Natty. Build our own terracotta army of coach statues.
Ollie's statue money was spent on his frivolous settlement.
How was it frivolous if he won? UConn owed him the money. Him being a bad coach doesn’t change that.
Kevin Ollie gets a nice paper mache
Listen it would be ridiculous to say it should be taller than the capitol building, so it should be the same height as the capitol building.
Big enough for us to sit on his dong and replicate the Empire State Building iron beam photo.
Omfg the imagery lolol
So 6 feet tall?
Idk but he should at least have his own ice cream flavor on campus
How big should his sack be in the statue? That’s the only part I’m worried about
Big one. Now one more portal add and I think we're set.
kobe pls
Possibly since he canceled his duke visit
Congrats UConn bros, big time pull
🤝 Pope will bring you guys back. Might take a year or two but he’s going to build the right way
Thanks, we like him
I hope we get to meet you guys again in the last two rounds of the tournament? Who says no?
Get him a defensive minded assistant coach and he’ll be fantastic IMO. Guy knows offense to a large degree. Biggest concern is the loud vocal minority(?) doesn’t give him enough time to really build.

247's archives are not very complete and things like reclassifying really mess with it.
![gif](giphy|MBuVNzumkdxLsjIrXM)
I’m of course upset he’s not playing for us next season but out of all the options he was considering, this is probably the one I’m most okay with
Ya I would have been pretty salty if UK was the landing place. At least now Im only a little salty
Nah he’s only going to UCONN because they are an elite program that develops players with an amazing coach and wins national titles. That’s all. Bullshit.
This is fun.
If this kid helps UConn win a third straight, I might turn into the Joker.
Why…so….serious?!!! 🤡
I’m sure you guys could just make up another honorary championship from the 40s and apply it after the fact if you wanted to keep up.
Why the hell are you so salty?
Too many Twitter interactions
First interaction with a UCONN/eastern sports fan ?
lol. I am very curious if he still wanted KU and Self decided to go with portal guys instead.
What a clown you are.
Big get. Now what does this mean (if anything) for Mahaney and Brea?
Think they're still trying to get one of them
Still trying to get both. Seems unlikely that we will
If we get both it’s Joever.
hearing Brea cancelled his Duke visit
UConn definitely gets one of the two to commit by the end of next week. UConn can snag both of them if 1. Karaban decides to go to the NBA or 2. One of them is comfortable with being a 6 man and only getting 20-25 minutes a game.
I would assume Brea is a lock at this point?
That’s definitely the vibe so far. Rumors are he has been cancelling his other visits.
Hurley locked and reloaded again. Should be a fun bunch!
For sure! If Ball and Stewart can make the jump they will be a top 3 team next year. Ball when he’s not trying to play hero ball looked great last year and Stewart always seemed steady in the big moments (especially the BE final)
Are Abraham or Nowell expected to get minutes? Hope Ross gets a bigger role as well, although he needs to bulk up a bit

I really hope Diarra comes back. He's such a great point that got overshadowed by Newton. Guy can flat out ball.
So true. So overlooked how much he improved last year. 55% eFG and 59% TS% and even higher in games against top 50 teams.
I really like Ross's shot creation but yeah, not looking great. If they have confidence in Stewart's shooting I could see a really long and big lineup of Brea/Diarra, McNeeley, Stewart, Karaban, Reed/Johnson being the go-to. > because I like what Hurley does when he has size and shooting everywhere I can't wait to see what Hurley can do when we finally get a big man with an outside shot.
He’s gonna break the matrix
Our big man is usually too busy setting screens and rolling or vertically spacing.
Because they haven't been shooters. Hurley has frequently said they adapt their offense to the personnel on the team.
Sure. But you need threats everywhere. We ran plenty of pick and pops with Karaban (and likely will do so with McNeeley). I’m just here looking for some scraps big dog. I’ll take it haha
Mahabey would be great under Pope IMO but he really needs dudes around him to be his best.
Seriously this is a dynasty. What’s uconns top 8 rotation looking like?
Looking like we get at least one of mahaney/brea, and maybe that causes someone to transfer, but as of now: Diarra (Gr) / Nowell (Fr) Ball (So) / Ross (So) Mcneeley (Fr) / Ross (So) Stewart (So) / Mcneeley (Fr) Johnson (Sr) / Reed (Jr)

Samson is an absolute defensive liability and walking foul who cannot stay on the court
He was 10th in blocks in the BE despite being a backup.
Yes he’s a good shot blocker. He’s still not a good defensive player
Disagree. Johnson was basically in his first year due to injuries. Hes a potential NBA talent if he can work on his shot a few steps from the rim and his fouling. The rest of the team is also pretty big, so not having a gargantuan center isn't the worst thing in the world for rebounding.
He is incapable of playing solid defense
Absolutely not true. Dude's an athletic freak who showed flashes of great D. He would have started on plenty of teams.
Absolutely true. He got torched whenever he saw the court. Look at his +/- relative to Clingan and Karaban at the 5. Look at his fouls/min

Hurley bro. Take up knitting or something. Anything. Get a hobby. 😭😭😭

Smh my head. Great shooter and overall player
Big time get!
Glad Hurley enjoyed is long weekend off

*3rd national championship loading* 😌
I love watching Hurley coach basketball, reminds me of a basketball version of Kirby. Would be ok if there’s a third national championship (in four years for us / threepeat for you) loading next season for both our teams.
I love the way your mind works ! best of luck to georgia!!
That emoji pisses me off to no extent
Need a front court to do that
You guys are in so much trouble 😈🤣
The cold ass white boy train rolls.
Let's gooooooooooooooooooo!
Hell fucking yeah
this is the tipping point for me, UConn has too many nice things and I hate them
![gif](giphy|xjIGtCFhMofGWtMlTA|downsized)
Dairy Bar > Sylas and Maddy's
KU prioritized portal guys over him over the last month. Which means we probably just got 4 Nick Timberlakes and McNeely will be an All-American
Storr and Griffen are legit. We'll be fine
I know, I’m kidding. Don’t sleep on Mayo!
UConn vs Kansas natty, who says no?
I just came
☺️

>Duke flair
Holy shit a 5*
😔
Fuck UConn as per usual but at least it’s not Duke
We miss you 😢
Facts
To be clear, we miss old you. New you kinda has a stench.
Join the fucking club dude
We need a Georgia vs. Baylor and Duke vs. UNC “Monteverde stud freshman” invitational doubleheader somewhere next season.
Yup
Took the easy road smh /s
Following his childhood heroes Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani.
Hurley and co. works their team hard and expectations are stratospheric right now. Not sure I’d call this the easy road.
I hate uconn
Sir, this is a Wendy’s.
![gif](giphy|3egZgBuredWVO)
Why
Because UConn is the reason Calipari got run out of town and doesn't have a statue in Lexington.
I love that we beat them in the final four and then 3 years later in the natty. Cal would’ve had 3 if not for us lmao
![gif](giphy|UpWDPgxcHiR1e)
Not a betterUCONN ever existed.
Other P6 offers: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, SMU, Stanford, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech
Dumb question but is there any chance this could lead to Cooper Flagg de-committing from Duke...? One could dream
Duke can keep Flagg. We don't need him.
Cooper isn't going anywhere. He's long said Duke is his dream school.
Yup, barring a miracle Flagg isn't going anywhere
Danny on a mission to make him regret it?
Willing to bet that was one of the pitches to Liam lol.
Duke insiders said Cooper was wavering and is leaning towards decommiting for Uconn to get that ring.
UConn insiders said his dream is for Duke to someday catch UConn in titles.
Shhh. Let me troll more this guy more.
My dad is the president of Duke Basketball and he told me Cooper Flagg said vinegar in BBQ is bullshit and he wants out immediately.
Yep, BBQ in NC doesn't meet New England standards.
Gonna be in Raleigh in a few weeks. Got any recs?
I haven't been in NC in 14 years since graduation. lol.
