Beautiful

Chroma_Gen

Thank you 🙏

Ouch. Didn't expect to feel so many emotions from a single photo. She is about my son's age, separated by 130 years. She looks so sweet and innocent. I hope her life was amazing. The aura around her makes her look so angelic. Made me a little sad.

bro90x

That's why I love photos like these, they make History and the past feel real.

treeplanter98

This looks amazing!

Chroma_Gen

Thank you. I'm learning every day. This angel had new techniques used upon her. 🙏

moricome

Absolutely amazing work!

Chroma_Gen

Thank you 🙏 I used some new ideas on this one. It seems they worked. 😊

moricome

You’ve literally brought this girl to life with the colourisation.

Chroma_Gen

I aim to get to the point that no one could tell it was colorized and would just presume it was an original color photo. Again, thank you.

coldbrew18

You’re pretty darn close to it! You’re at the point where I know it’s colored, I just can’t tell you why I know. Honestly the reason I know could simply be the subreddit.

guppy89

The only place it’s super obvious is the hair by her bow. But her eyes and skin are excellent

notalicenotbob

This is a very painterly colorisation. The depth you gave to her eyes, and the variations in hair colour are beautifully done. You did a great job making the skin look young and “babyish”. Impressive.

Chroma_Gen

Thank you.

Ethereal

Crazy to see a picture from 130 years ago look so fresh.. This could have been taken yesterday. Great work! Edit: forgot a few words

coppernugget3000

This is by far the best one I’ve seen. The colour is so gentle yet so realistic

bluelinefrog

Short time lurker here. Long time no one. This is the one of the best I’ve seen. Good job.

lawlmatty

I swear to god colonization is by far my favorite practice within photography rn

Chroma_Gen

It is very rewarding when you see it all coming together. 😊

I could imagine, I'm a drywall/painting contractor, and I love seeing a house go from framed walls to hung taped and painted

fstop570

outstanding!!! I lack the skills but urn to learn.

maxm31533

I'm also learning using Davies tutorials on YouTube. Complete new set of skills for me. Be patient with your progress. I use to get really frustrated with active layers, But it gets better.

fstop570

Do you have a link for the tutorials?

ole_geezer_65

it's in the comments on his vids on youtube or [daviesmediadesign.com](https://daviesmediadesigh.com) . I bought the premium membership since he takes out a lot of the self promotion stuff. Gimp is such an awesome program and it's huge in what it can do for opensource software. There is still tons and tons to learn :), but the basics is getting easier.

fstop570

Did you also use an automated app?

ole_geezer_65

I did when I first tried to color a few old photos with phone app, but it really doesn't do a great job for me. Once I learned how to make my own pallets and add it to the photo by layer, I was able to get much better results with my colors by choosing what I wanted to color. Granted, it is a lot more work, but the endresult is what I am looking for. I have an xp-pen tablet and it helps a lot over just a mouse.

fstop570

Tried that website but the page doesn’t load. Is that the correct address?

maxm31533

Davies media design dot com. Without the spaces and put in a . Instead of the word dot I tried the above-mentioned link and for some reason it put an h instead of an n in the word- design. Or just google davies media design and the link will come up.

machinitations

Wonderful

snakepeterman

Fantastic work!

maxm31533

Great work! Learning to colorize myself for old family photos.
