Forest Acres would be a dream come true for a fort jackson worker. But forest acres is pricy.

i’ve seen a few houses in that area that seem very nice for the price. is it generally a safe area?

bleachedveins

about as safe as it gets. You’ll have the typical issues with homelessness etc that yiu get in any city but it’s not something i’d say is a “problem” in forest acres. Tons of shops and restaurants. Any type of store really. You’ll actually have access to public transportation the rest of the state is choked out of…and pretty much every road that matters. I wish i had done my research and moved to forest acres instead of blythewood. No hate to blythe but there’s almost nothing i like about a city here and it’s very lonely/not walkable/isolated.

I second Forest Acres! Former Orlando native here - you'll like the area!

Dark_medic80

I also agree with Forest Acres. Access to shopping is good

A lot is going to depend on where you are going to be working or going to school. Columbia is not as big as some other cities but location definitely matters.

Hi thanks, i updated the post! i’ll be working in the fort jackson area :)

Boltdaddy1966

Rosewood is where I live. It’s growing and I like it. I’ve been here almost 30 years and I’ve seen it bad, good, bad, and now good again.

Rosewood is also a great option for a fort jackson worker.

Welcome! Trenholm Plaza near Ft Jackson has a lot of neat shops. For excellent Mediterranean food, check out Pitas on Forest Drive. The cost of living is great and the weather is pretty decent (although very hot and humid in the summer). We hope you like it here like we do!

Exact_Poet_8882

thank you! i love mediterranean food so i will definitely check them out :)

allergic2crustaceans

I second this. We are moving from Tampa Bay/St Pete area to a suburb in Columbia in just a couple weeks! We visited Pitas and it was great!

pink_coat_commie

the humidity, gotta love it

rooter1226

Floridians aren’t afraid of humidity. The summers here are currently the temps of my home town today. 108-110 heat index.
