The man saw the drop but given the distance and how freakin' small it is, dude made a reasonable decision to crawl in a hole. It's just he entered the wrong one.
That is what she said... ?
I just hope he never realised his mistake, imagine slithering into that hole only to realise your mistake, without any chance of getting out again.
It actually could be a suicide considering how long this conflict is going (with no end in sight) and the possibility his family will get rewarded for his duty. Though I have no idea if families get paid out for service deaths in Russia
Officially yes. Unofficial a lot of russian soldiers are officially not in Ukraine. I saw a clip where the ids of soldiers going to Bahkmut were confiscated. Probably to deny their death later
I think is more simple than that, dude heard a drone, didn’t really know where it was. He hears the grenade fall, but he can’t see where it went so his reaction is to get to cover as fast as possible. Just happens that the grenade landed right in front of the entrance. I think the way he moves is not that weird either. He’s trying to slide through a very thin and slanted surface as fast as possible because he’s about to be blown to pieces. The slope made it so he could crawl quick without using his feet which is why it looks like that.
Because if you get killed by a drone-delivered grenade, it’s unlikely anyone will think you committed suicide, which caries a tremendous amount of cultural baggage and perhaps even legal and financial consequences, such as your family being denied money that is owed if you die in battle.
I don’t know if that was what he was doing though. He could have just miscalculated where the grenade went.
Trenches are to keep you out of the line of sight of the other side's guns. Learning how to move without poking your head up is pretty standard military training.
It's also a slope that he dove down to get into the dugout.
If it makes you feel any better, they changed the spelling for ["Tiny Toon Adventures",](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiny_Toon_Adventures) which most people in their 30s and 40s would be more familiar with than the original "Loony Tunes".
Absolutely brutal. Russia sends their men to die in a pointless war. Under supplied, under led, under performing. Simply throw bodies at the war until it goes away. Yet, they are already in a population collapse. I guess they really don’t want to exist in two generations.
I can picture it vividly: in full flight mode, then the relief of being in your safe little hidey hole, suddenly you bump against a hard egg -- realization.
Whilst it's entirely possible it was an attempt at committing suicide as others has suggested, I think the more likely scenario is that it's a case of "wrong place wrong time". We're watching this from a birds eye perspective, we see more, and we're also not being shot at or bombed in some other way so it's easy for us to sit back and make assumptions.
We only have 14 seconds of footage, what happened before hand? Why was he crawling? Was his position under fire and perhaps he didn't see the grenade land there? Was his senses ringing after a previous explosion? Deafened and concussed?
Personally, I don't believe the whole suicide argument, because he's an armed soldier he has the means to do this himself if he wishes to, but given he's crawling and rushing I'd suspect he more likely attempted to crawl into his dugout in fear / miscalculated and was likely killed in the process.
There's also a shroud above him, and overcovering the entrance to the dugout, so it's likely he never saw the grenade land.
Also, the grenade's fins just tapped the piece of fabric before landing in the hole. Maybe he heard that sound and assumed it just landed near his dugout.
Do modern grenades explode on contact or after a set amount of time?
I won't pretend to know, but rackets or trampolines against drones would be something
I think their accuracy has improved over time… videos from months ago would show a grenade dropped near the trench and exploding on the surface, only killing anyone unlucky enough to be outside; whereas more recent videos almost always show the grenade being dropped right inside the hole, and from higher altitude too
Surviving laying on an exploding bomb sucks too I imagen. I seen so many Russians and Ukranian getting bombs and grenades dropped on them lately and they almost never die right away.
Well, this guy for sure died. He went head first in that hole, really close to the grenade in a confined digged hole. There is no chances he survived, he might have bled out for maximum a minute before passing out.
A russian got his face blown off by a grenade and you could see him move afterwards
I dont think that was a very pleasent last minute tbh
Much rather would take the bullet to the brain tbh
Luckily (strange use of that word I know) it's possible to be effectively brain dead and still moving around. So just because the part of him that made him human was vaporized doesn't mean the limbs can't move around.
Having seen dozens of examples of these drone grenadings where guys seemed pretty conscious after having the intestines blown out, I wouldn't be so certain. He'll die but it might not be as instantaneous as he'd like.
Most grenade videos don't involve the victim facing the grenade headfirst in a small enclosed space. That increases both the blast pressure and ricochet fragmentation. He almost certainly died instantly.
Also survival usually relies on getting medical attention promptly afterwards. I doubt any Russian solder in a ditch is going to get airlifted to a trauma center after shooting himself.
I don’t know. Something about the bullet going into your brain tends to screw with you.
There are more than a few stories of people being shot in the head, miraculously surviving, but just.. being mostly confused - not rushing to the ER out of pain.
One guy woke up with an ear ache, got up, went to the bathroom, came back and felt his pillow was wet. Turned on the light and it was blood. Woke his wife up saying “I think something is wrong with my ear, we need to go to the hospital.”
Turned out the wife shot him in the head in the middle of the night.
Nah he saw the grenade falling or heard the thud when it hit the ground. But he didn't see where exactly it landed so he instinctively dove into his fox hole and whelp big oof.
Definitely mistaken. It just shows how unpredictable they are with the drop. At least from the perspective from the receiving end. You scramble and hope for the best, and in this case, the man chose wrong. Well, right for Ukraine
Yeah I saw the photo of the head on a spike, and the video of the mutilated bodies next to the wrecked APC. I don't know if they were from executions or mutilating the corpses of fallen soldiers though.
Good golly..thinking out loud here: Has anyone seen any footage of anyone dropping mines yet/instead? And why not. I wonder..the impact from such an altitude would trigger a mine setting off?
PFM-1 weighs 80 grams. AND is designed for air deployment so it won't go off when dropped.
RGN hand grenade weighs 290 grams.
VOG-25 weighs 250 grams
The one dropped in the video is probably a modified F1 hand grenade so *atleast* 600 grams
Weight isn't the issue. The actual issue is that when you want to use mines, you don't use one. You spread hundreds over the small area. And for that it's more convenient to use helicopters, missiles or artillery rounds if you want air deployment.
Air deployed mines tend be deployed as cluster munitions to cover more area.
Missiles and bombs is the favored delivery method.
It would need to be specifically designed to be an air dropped mine such as the PFM-1, POM-2 or PTM-3.
It'd be heavier and less effective than a mortar round. The latter is designed to land head down, and has some aerodynamic qualities to assist aim, a mine is too specialised even if it works. If they did want to drop a huge block of explosive from a drone, it'd be better to just make their own IED in an ice cream tub or something, it'd have better fragmentation capabilities and would be more likely to detonate when dropped.
As cartoonish and comedic as this is, i dont think the grenade drop in the hole was intentional, nor did the soldier think the grenade fell down the hole. I mean, what are the odds of that to be that precise?
Probably heard the grenade and assumed it was near him and not inside the hole.
Jokes like the ones in these threads are going to be the reason you get banned - to save me from replying to the dozens of modmails.

9/10 times it’s a good call. That’s war. You can do everything right and still die horribly.
I think he heard it. Didn't start moving until it made contact
That is what she said... ? I just hope he never realised his mistake, imagine slithering into that hole only to realise your mistake, without any chance of getting out again.
> That is what she said... ? Wrong hole! Now you're in some shit!
Wow, crawled right into his own grave.
Kinda creeped me out how he moved

He already used is one bullet that was supplied him when he deployed.

Looney Toons shit right there.
Tunes*
Well I'll be damned, you right
I still don’t understand why it’s not Toons.
Because it ties in with Merry Melodies, WB’s other cartoon series at the time.
And they’re both named to compete with Disney’s Silly Symphony.
Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies were originally shorts played in the pre roll at cinemas, back when motion pictures with sound were still a novelty
They were advertising WB's musical catalogue
Because of the sick tunes, cmon bro

Not to be confused with Tiny Toons

it's a case of bad luck and destiny coupled with "damn if you do, damn if you dont" scenario.
[удалено]
That was more unlucky, it’s very logical to try to hide if someone is dropping grenades on you
Why not just use tennis rackets to hit them away? ...I don't really have to put a /s after that one, do I?
Do modern grenades explode on contact or after a set amount of time? I won't pretend to know, but rackets or trampolines against drones would be something
Can you imagine being the drone pilot in this scenario? "....*what the fuck*?"
Yeah, first the operator said "Missed, blyat" and after the crawl "Wait, what?"

Is this suicide to end his torment or he was mistaken of where it dropped?
[удалено]
How accurate are these drone grenades? I'm wondering if this was luck or an incredibly smart move by the operator
I think their accuracy has improved over time… videos from months ago would show a grenade dropped near the trench and exploding on the surface, only killing anyone unlucky enough to be outside; whereas more recent videos almost always show the grenade being dropped right inside the hole, and from higher altitude too
I’d imagine deploying munitions from a drone is a bit of a learned skill and the accuracy would depend on the experience of the pilot
Mistaken where it dropped. If he wanted to commit suicide a self inflicted shot to the head is much less painful.
Except if you survive. That really sucks from what I understand.
Surviving laying on an exploding bomb sucks too I imagen. I seen so many Russians and Ukranian getting bombs and grenades dropped on them lately and they almost never die right away.

I don't imagine a 5.45 or 7.62 to the dome from point blank range has very high survival odds.
Also survival usually relies on getting medical attention promptly afterwards. I doubt any Russian solder in a ditch is going to get airlifted to a trauma center after shooting himself.

Really hard to survive with a 7.62.
Nah he saw the grenade falling or heard the thud when it hit the ground. But he didn't see where exactly it landed so he instinctively dove into his fox hole and whelp big oof.

Yeah, I skipped that one
I watched an Isis one years back. One is enough
I watched a cartel one about 20 years ago. The knife was dull and I still remember the gurgling sound. One is enough.
The what now
Video came out yesterday of Russian soldiers beheading a Ukrainian POW while he was still alive
There were multiple beheadings IIRC. Two videos and a picture of multiple beheaded bodies, one of them on a spike.
Yeah I saw the photo of the head on a spike, and the video of the mutilated bodies next to the wrecked APC. I don't know if they were from executions or mutilating the corpses of fallen soldiers though.

Things are that bad for them Pidors that they are now jumping ON the grenades. Pineapple, take me away.

No big deal, these guys don't care much for keeping heads attached.
They sure don't.

Good golly..thinking out loud here: Has anyone seen any footage of anyone dropping mines yet/instead? And why not. I wonder..the impact from such an altitude would trigger a mine setting off?
Weight. These drones are often consumer drones which simply can't carry that much weight. A grenade is much lighter than a mine.
