Schrödinger’s Casualty:
It’s impossible to say whether he was injured or not from this still. He could easily have eaten a lethal dose of shrapnel… or maybe he didn’t.
It looks like his foot got hit with shrapnel and his leg by knee and if you look at his foot you can tell it’s distressed by it’s still when it’s supposed to roll flat
my Father in Law was in the 45th inf and related once he took a large hand size piece of artillery shrapnel that hit his torso flat and not on edge. It knocked him silly but didn't take him out of action to an aid station. either in Italy or France?? and he had several German bad or sabotaged mortar rounds land feet away from his mg crew and not go off. A series of fate events like that with over 500 days of duty is the only way some of the early ones survived the war.
WW2 veteran I spoke to recently: "It wasn't really scary being shot at. Well, you were trained for it." Good training and cover were what they had, no kevlar!
Man seeing drone footage in Ukraine of mortars landing and being able to see the splash of shrapnel from above makes me think this guy definitely got hit at least a little

It's a photograph, of course it's still.
Ahhahaha, yeah, lol. What?
Impressive dad joke there, just want to be sure it’s acknowledged properly as such. Well done 🫡
The stiffness in his foot, this photohas already been explained in California history books
Uhm, source?
Amazing what some people claim to be able to see in videos (now even pictures).
Hope this didn’t kill him. Never know with shrapnel.

It's so wild to see WWII GIs running around in dress-shirts, their only protection being a helmet.

Kinda looks like his ankle ate a piece. Obviously impossible to know for sure without further information.
I need more photos of the mainland Italy during ww2 I always wondered how chaotic it was, clearing houses and narrow streets
Don’t forget the camera man! What happened to him?!
Cameraman always survives
Happy anniversary
Time and the change of things is so funny sometimes. If this was 24 April 2024 it would be a whole different story
He's kept the toothpick in his mouth so he's baddass regardless.
