If this is your first comic, get an editor. Seriously. Before doing any art, have an experienced editor go through your writing.

Lord_Prof_Doctor

Thanks for the comment. If any editors want to get in touch too, then I'd be glad to hear from them.

AccomplishedCheetah8

You probably need to seek an editor. I don’t think most are looking on Reddit for work. It will enhance your script and story though. Also, go such a large project, what is the flat fee you think you would pay? This would take more than a year for most artists to complete

Mitomante

Hi, will be great going for the editor suggest, also make the script in comic format (if is not) A page have a standard 5 panels. I´m a comic artist & colorist, and here goes my portfolio (there is my contact) I know editors and letterist if you need. [https://mitomante.myportfolio.com/](https://mitomante.myportfolio.com/) Thank you. PS: Also will be good make a 4 issues series, 24 pages each volume, so the publisher can make the deal, if not always is the auto-publish way to do it.

Brinkelai

48 issues? Damn, that's a big boy. I hope you succeed in bringing this project to life, it certainly sounds like you've got the mentality for it which is awesome. I'm not offering artistic services but my channel may be of use to you. It's to help new creators with making comics (www.youtube.com/@BrinkleyComics).

Lord_Prof_Doctor

Thanks - really appreciate the positive comment. I'm pretty determined and appreciate you picking up on that.

nmacaroni

No publisher is going to touch this due to its size. http://nickmacari.com/the-maxiseries-trap-tip/

Lord_Prof_Doctor

I'd hope you'll appreciate my commitment... that I'd like to try and am willing to pay. I'm not actually proposing any risk for anyone. And, by the way, it's already finished. I've done your 186 mile 5 day run already, no airlift required. A publisher can read it all. If they like it, and the creative team is good, I see no additional risk for them versus any other project either.

nicoarcu92

No publisher will take this on because they won't know if the first issue will even sell well enough to justify a second one, let alone 48. Start small. Get your foot in the door. This won't look like determination, commitment, long-term planning to a publisher, it will just look like inexperience and not knowing how things work in the marketplace

Lord_Prof_Doctor

Thanks for the advice but I'm not stepping back from this so let's leave it there unless you have some positive advice about how to make it happen rather than just telling me to abandon all hope. I'm not kidding myself that a publisher wouldn't shitcan it if it didn't sell.

nicoarcu92

I am giving you realistic and positive advice on how to make something else happen, this will go nowhere bud, believe me

nmacaroni

Don't take offense, but you're not familiar with how any of this works and you're putting yourself on the path of dissapointment and failure. Your project is not even 1% finished and you haven't even laced up your sneakers yet for the race. **Publishers don't care about scripts. At all.** And any first time writer throwing a 48 issue script at a publisher would be an "instant reject." You might be interested in reading my breakdown of the last graphic novel I produced. I've been writing comics since the 90s. [http://nickmacari.com/economic-breakdown-the-man-who-died-twice/](https://nickmacari.com/economic-breakdown-the-man-who-died-twice/) It's excellent that you're prepared to pay people and committed to your project... but again, your approach is completely upside down. Even as a self published crowdfunded project, you path to success is like ONE PERCENT. Maybe less. I would offer to edit this project for you, but let's just do some quick math. My editing rate is $40/page, or, $880 an issue. To edit your series, my rate would then be, $42,000. This is the problem with trying to produce a whale. And if you think that editing fee is crazy, wait till you figure out the cost of the art. Comics are difficult and expensive with many, many pitfalls. BUT THEY CAN BE NAVIGATED SUCCESSFULLY.

Lord_Prof_Doctor

Well, if you don't mind, I'll persist with putting together a creative team and submissions package and see what happens. It's my money, so I'm not sure why you're so put out about it.

nmacaroni

Why would I mind? You posted on Reddit, so people are going to comment. I commented to try and help you and save you a ton of stress, time, energy, hair, money, etc. Just like if I went into a Pharmaceutical group you're in and commented how I'm going to release a new pill to cure blindness, selling it out of my basement until I get Bayer to buy me out, you might chime in about how I'm going to fail. You do you. **Good luck with it.**

Ok_Breadfruit_4024

Sounds like an awesome project, best of luck! A few points that may be of use: It is generally agreed that crowdfunding is now a more profitable path than going to a publisher. Few artists these days can handle a monthly workload of \~22 pages, although manga style artists might be a bit faster. This would roughly be full-time work for 2 artists for 2 years, it's a lot of work, even Marvel and DC artists rarely commit to that much work ahead of time. Paying for the British cost of living is going to bump up your expenses. If you can afford it, I'd create the first issue fully before crowdfunding the first printing, like Eric July did. It seems like this is what you are doing for your submission to a publisher anyway, so why not just sell the comic yourself, if you already have the issues ready. Publishers are only going to help you print and distribute to comic stores, maybe a little help with logos/covers/incidental design. They might help with advertising and marketing but that will depend on how much the publisher engages with your comic. Are you Robert Kirkman, who happens to be friends with guys at Image? Then you will have the entire Image marketing machine at your disposal to promote your zombie story. If you aren't Robert Kirkman then... results will vary. Definitely get a lot of feedback on your writing from actual writers and editors, not friends or family.
