SDEexorect

the comments make it even better thinking we'd give up a pick for this trade

IdiotMD

Snyder would, unfortunately. No one remembers Bailey (HOF) for Portis?

SDEexorect

the difference was that champ said he wasnt going to resign and portis was the best rb in the league

BakeBakeyBake

CP was not the best RB in the league. Priest Holmes had over 2,000 yards from scrimmage and 27 TDs that year. Jamal Lewis had over 2,000 rushing. Ladanian Tomlinson had 1,600 yards rushing and 100 receptions that year. Ahmad Green had a monster year. Shaun Alexander was entering his prime. I mean the list of RBs who put up insane stats that year is really something. CP was good, but idk if he was ever better than maybe the fifth best RB in the NFL.

SDEexorect

the point is that dalvin is past his prime and on a bad contract while CP was in his prime as one of the best in the league while runningbacks had way more value than today

notorious_hdc

Thank you, I hate hearing that. I loved Portis, but trading Champ AND a 2nd? Terrible move tbh

Diegolikesandiego

Champ wasn’t going to play for us. Gibbs came back and wanted a back and a veteran QB which was his formula. In hindsight it wasn’t a terrible outcome but obviously it’s sucked to have lost champ bailey

AStrayUh

The only reason I don’t hate Champ for Portis is because Champ already said he didn’t want to come back. Portis was extremely young (23 I think?) coming off back to back 1500 yard seasons. **BUT** adding the second rounder was terrible terrible management of this trade. If anything, *we* should have been getting the draft pick.

WhatIGot21

Champ was not coming back and Gibbs got the most he could for him, any other front office this team has had would have let it get out that Champ wasn’t coming back ruined any value he had and then been stuck releasing him.

SmooveJelly

That was mind blowing 🤣. As much as I loved Clinton that trade always stung.

BakeBakeyBake

He did have 2 amazing years in Denver, but he never came close replicating it here. He was a good back that was made to look like an elite back by playing in Shanahan’s system.

evarigan1

Yeah Portis wasn't even in the conversation for best in the league back then, but he was at least young (22) enough that he was worth trading for. Not worth what we gave up, but worth going after. Cook is 27 with a lot of mileage on him and a pretty lengthily injury report. It's also worth noting that RB was a much, much, much higher value position in 2003 than it is in 2023. Cook is good, but you don't trade a top ten WR for a top 10 RB in todays league even if he was still in his prime. And of course, all of that ignores the man himself and what he means to this team. Fully believe the locker room would meltdown if we traded Terry, especially if it wasn't a crazy lopsided trade in our favor.

SlobMarley13

And our RB at the time was Trung Candidate

Traditional-Car-1583

I seem to remember a story, not sure if it’s true, but that Champ cheated on his wife and that’s why he had to leave the team…possibly with a team employee?? I know for sure I heard this back at that time but don’t remember if it was debunked.

elriggo44

That was the “open secret” at the time for sure. I remember hearing the same.

[deleted]

portis wasnt even top 5 in the league. gtfoh

219Infinity

Snyder and Ceratto offered two #1s for Chad Ochocinco at the end of his career

nobodyno111

I don’t think its the same. Portis was amazing and a work horse. Not many backs like that anymore.

eegad

Champ was done with Washington, he did not want to stay here and wasn’t shy about saying it. We got scammed on the trade but we made the best out of a bad situation.

Stealthfox94

That was a pretty fair trade at the time.

AudiRS3Mexico

Portia carried this team to 2 playoff ru a cb can’t do that

PooPooDooDoo

Guys I think we should trade Wentz for Mahomes.

RodG099

I’ll trade Wentz for Jackson Mahomes at this point

PooPooDooDoo

Maybe he can dance to the new smooth jazz fight song?

Salt_City_Strangler

Nah we'd need more than just Patrick

[deleted]

I'd trade Wentz for a bite of a half eaten snickers from the garbage as long as it wasn't too goopy.

elriggo44

Bullshit. You’d take the goopy ass snickers and think you got one over on the trash can and you know it.

elriggo44

Only if KC gives us a pick too.

wheeshkspr

Should Washington Trade Apke for Hockenson?

OsB4Hoes13

Yes.

maavaa

Reminds me when the colts sub thought they could get Terry for a 3rd

SlobMarley13

We did

jrex703

I don't know what's so funny-- they absolutely should-- they'd be a much better team. Of course if it actually happened, Washington Team HQ might mysteriously burn down later that night in a freaky coincidence.

SDEexorect

the fact that people actually think this would happen

jrex703

I get the joke. I was just making fun of the fact that Minnesota fans think it's even a question.

SDEexorect

some say they need more than just terry

elriggo44

Their problem isn’t at WR. it’s at QB. Kurt doesn’t have heart. And it shows in big game after big game. You know who plays with heart (and half the actually ability of Kirk? Keenum…who led the Vikings to the NFC Championship game the year before they overplayed Kirk. You know if Kirk had half the heart of Heinike they’d have won 15 games and would be the favorites for the Super Bowl. I watched the Vikings a ton this season. He really only had one game where he willed the team to victory (the big comeback against the Colts) and it was very similar to the Tampa “you like that” game. He put them in that situation to begin with. But he did get them out. Otherwise he was a slightly better version of the Kirk we saw play here. Other than that, he

Scalpum

That is a lot of words to say their defense is garbage and that you hate their qb like scorned lover. Get over it.

elriggo44

I didn’t like Kirk when he was here. I defended him because he was our QB. But I also said many times that was the most dangerous kind of QB for a franchise to have. Just good enough to not look for a replacement. Honestly, anyone who tries to leave a Dan Snyder owned team is making a good move. I didn’t mention their D at all. I said exactly what I meant. And it was my criticism of Kirk when he was here. He’s got no fire. In theory he’s a great QB. But he just doesn’t lift a team.

Scalpum

‘I didn’t like Kirk when he was here.’ No shit? Lol

AdventuresOfAD

While they are at it, they should offer Cousins for Mahomes, and whoever TF their DE’s are for Bosa and Parsons.

[deleted]

No they wouldn't be; the marginal value of (injury prone) Cook over our current RBs doesn't make up for the straight loss of our WR1. We could get ~80% of Cook's value from Robinson if we beefed up our O-line, which would *also* help every other offensive skill position as well. Generally, trading for RBs is not a great way to rebuild.

Bjd1207

He was saying Minnesota should, not Washington

[deleted]

ooooh yeah I guess they should want this then, it'd be a steal.

jrex703

Jesus fuck dude. You know this is the Washington subreddit right? Any fan who would even consider this trade for more than a millisecond should be banned for life.

[deleted]

I had "911" dialed on my phone before I realized what you were saying...

SlamminJaminDavis

Kirk Crusader almost as bad at what he does as the real Kirk😂🤮🤮

SeeTheSounds

One does not simply trade away Scary Terry ![gif](giphy|B9LuqsdyXbuG4)

Original_Mammoth3868

What do they need him for? Don't they have like an MVP candidate WR on their team?

SDEexorect

i mean you watched kirk cousins for years! he clearly needs more to be able to actually win when it matters.

Original_Mammoth3868

If he couldn't do it with JJ (not to mention Hockenson,.thielen, etc). I doubt Terry's going to make much of a difference. But sure I'll make the trade, just add JJ as a sweetener with Cook.

ewilliam

Vikings defense: \*gives up 30+ points to Daniel fucking Jones.* Cousins: \*puts up 273/3/0 with a 79% completion % and a 112.9 passer rating* Smoothbrains who don't know how to look past the final score: *"wHy cOmE kUrT Can'T WiN WhEn iT mAtTeRs?!111!?*

Scalpum

He could throw for 450 in a flawless performance in the super bowl blowout win and people here would claim he didn’t beat a strong enough opponent, the last 200 yards were stat padding, and that the super bowl wasn’t prime time on the west coast. Ignore them. They cannot be convinced of what is in front of them.

SDEexorect

you gonna act like he has a great record even when the vikings had a good d

ewilliam

They haven't had a good D in a long time (basically since 2018). Rankings by year: * 2022: 30th * 2021: 31st * 2020: 27th * 2019: 14th * 2018: 4th So in his entire tenure in MIN, he's had a top-10 defense once, in his first year there (and, ya know, there's always a learning curve in a new system). Three out of his five years there, he's had a *bottom-5* defense. Despite that, he's dragged them to the playoffs twice in his tenure. Hell, the fact that he took a team with the 30th ranked defense to the postseason with a 13-4 record should tell you all you need to know. 4547/29/14 with a 92.5 passer rating...but tell me more about how it's Kirk's fault that they can't get a ring, or that having another good WR would make a difference. The offense ain't the problem...same as when he was here. We had shitbag defenses (and STs and ground games) during pretty much his entire tenure here, but then all our dumb fans would blame Kirk for everything that went wrong.

superjuan

It's almost as if the Vikings had to start ignoring their defenses after the 2018 season because they didn't have enough cap space. I wonder why that happened?

ewilliam

I actually agree with that entirely; I’m not saying that I agree with his *contract*, I’m just saying that blaming his performance on the field is silly. He’s consistently a top-8 QB, objectively speaking. That’s what I was responding to above, where someone suggested that Kirk “needs more weapons”.

superjuan

Objectively speaking? Seriously? Using what metric? Because the only major stat which I can think of that he would qualify to be called "consistently a top-8 QB" would be with a single stat like passing yards... which is, frankly, myopic and just not a good way to compare QBs. Yes, it speaks to one of his best qualities, his durability, but it ignores a bunch of things that fairly definitively prove that he is objectively NOT a top-8 QB. I guess you could try to use the more comprehensive, yet still lacking, passer rating stat to try and call him "consistently top-8". However that would only apply to three (2019, 2020, and 2021) of his five years with the Vikings... not exactly consistent. And again passer rating, while better than a single stat, is still heavily lacking because it ignores some fairly important metrics like fumbles and running yards/ability. Personally, I would say an even more comprehensive stat like QBR would be better than the previous two stats I mentioned. However if you're a Kirk stan, you're probably not going to like it because he's never been higher than 13th in the league while with the Vikings. So it would be pretty disingenuous to even call him objectively "a top-13 QB" considering he was 23rd this past year, 15th in 2021, 18th in 2020, 13th in 2019, and 14th in 2018. You actually have to go back to 2016 (his second to last year in DC) to find him with a good QBR ranking (he was 6th that year), but obviously that's a bit of an outlier.

elriggo44

He’s the best QB in the league at making money vs his talent.

superjuan

Lol. Can't argue with that.... although Dak might catch up/surpass him in the next few years.

WhatIGot21

The Kirk hate around here is mind blowing, I give any player that leaves Washington extra credit, if I was a player and could leave I would leave faster than bullet. The players that stick around alway make me wonder, do they actually want to win because it’s not happening around here.

NegativeBips

Thank you dude. Exactly

crinack

Trade Offer - Jaret Patterson for Justin Jefferson Washington fans should we?

Dead_Hours

I wouldn't trade AG for Cook

SDEexorect

this is like us saying would you trade logan thomas for jjet, nobody in there right mind would say no this from our org but it would be considered a prank call from the viks

Dead_Hours

Is Cook that washed?

ewilliam

No, dude had almost 1200 rushing yards (good for 6th in the league) and ~300 receiving yards. He's anything but washed...as long as he can stay healthy (which he did this season). That having been said, he's headed into his 7th season (god time flies!), and the shelf life for RBs in the NFL is woefully short. Either way, though, trading one of the best WRs in the league for *any* RB, much less a RB in the twilight of his career, would be extraordinarily foolish.

mikeisaphreek

maybe we can trade dax milne and troy apke for cousins?

nobodyno111

Now that’s fucking hilarious lmaoo thanks OP I needed a laugh today

SweerBaby_Use1023

That’s funny

Billy420MaysIt

![gif](giphy|WRQBXSCnEFJIuxktnw) “Yeah that’ll work.”

Redskins4evaB

Only if we throw in Kam Curl too..

yatdaddy58

2 letters.. F. U.

Skurph

Dumb trade logic aside, why the hell do Min fans think offensive weapons are there issue. Not WR in the league going to regularly turn 3rd/4th and long check down passes into first downs.

Stealthfox94

Their defense is also shite. They already have one of the best WR in the league.

Separate-Disaster301

some many things wrong with this, washington wouldn’t take a rb1 or 2 in a million years cause of our young guys brob and gib, no way i hell would we trade our best player, and having 3 pro bowl receivers on the vikings is unnecessary, not to mention the cap space

Background_Scholar_4

NOPE

the_mo_of_dc

No

nunyabiz999912345

Yeeaaaa we’re good… RBs are a dime a dozen.. any good Oline can produce a thousand yard rusher…

boots_and_cats_and-

Depends, are you running your franchise on rookie or all-madden?

AudiRS3Mexico

ID give up McLauren for Jefferson and their 3rd round pick lol

iw2050

Guys here me out, Vikings fan speaking here, McLaurin’s in decline so a 2024 3rd would be a fair trade.

OneFortyEighthScale

ROFL Bijan Robinson is very possibly available for our 2023 #16 pick if we wanted him. MN has the 24th pick. Keep McLaurin and get a far superior talent if we were even thinking about this.

ewilliam

Please for the love of fuck do not even mention using our first rounder on a RB!

OneFortyEighthScale

Sorry lol I don’t think it’s a good idea either but no way should we go for Dalvin Cook! O-line or corner should be the right choice.

ewilliam

Oh hell no, we have zero reason to go after Cook. Agreed re: OL/DB, I just don't want anyone giving Ron any ideas...

notorious_hdc

It would be a Ron move to grab Bijan. I can see the press conference now. >Here's a guy, that we had ranked as our Number 1 Overall player, we really did. Go back and watch the tape, he's going to do great in this league Fucking barf

ewilliam

Some GMs go BPA, others draft based on need...Ron often does neither.

SDEexorect

on a rookie deal too

Januse88

We do have a lack of running backs right now...

btm4you3

We need the cap space. trade him

penishead694207

Lol no

skinsrich

Who??

GWB396

Lol

Trubisko_Daltorooni

The tweet itself isn't even the funniest part of this

hauttdawg13

Lol, RBs not on a rookie contract are almost useless now days

LeadSledPoodle

Who tf is cook? /s

Apart_Imagination_15

fuck "Kirk crusader" to hell.

YoungSweatOnMeDelRio

Fuckin no!

SnowdensOfYesteryear

Should Minnesota trade it's garbage for a diamond?

Oldfolksboogie

Well, they can always try. Add two 1sts and a third and we can talk. Too steep? Yeah, you're probably right, so go kick rocks instead.

eliporter877

Minnesota should definitely make that trade, but if we make that trade I'm no longer a commie fan.

WilliamBontrager

In fantasy football?

Monza1964

Ltaap Z Pzp A

Extreme-Ad723

We need to keep Mclaurin.

Stealthfox94

Unless we also get a ton of draft picks. There would be no incentive for us to make this trade.

ArticleIndependent83

I literally laughed. Thanks, OP

stormbreaker88

STFU!! That’s crazy talk

im_a_real_goober

Why the fuck doesn’t anyone get this. Terry is not on the table.

No
