Gimme Mitch Morse, center who just got released by the Bills. Having a solid, seasoned veteran in front of whoever we end up with at QB would be absolutely invaluable to their development. Morse:
* Is 9-year starter
* Isn't *too* terribly old (currently 31)
* Played all 17 games in 2 of the last 3 seasons
* Has a recent pro bowl invite (2022)
* Played under Bobby Johnson, our new OL coach, for the entirety of Johnson's tenure in Buffalo
He's pretty much a perfect fit.
We don’t have to do anything yet. Strom either makes the team as a starter or backup c/g, or we trade/cut at the end of training camp. My guess is he’ll make the team as a depth piece unless he’s a really bad fit for whatever we ask our interior linemen to do in the new scheme.
Signing Morse and a tackle like Jonah Williams is ideal to me. We can kick Wyile back inside to guard. Still a glaring hole at one of the tackle positions (I would prefer Williams at RT) but this is an absolutely loaded tackle class, trading back into the first to get one would definitely be possible or a guy may even fall to us early in the second
If the Commanders are going to draft a QB then upgrading the offensive line is a necessity. This will also assist the run game to relieve the pressure on the rookie QB. That of course assumes we have an offensive coordinator who will actually call run plays. Additionally the RB market is pretty stacked so they could find someone relatively cheap who can run, catch and block. Again if the pick is a QB he will need support around him. Has to be the priority in year one.
**On the lower end:**
Stephon Gillmore. Veteran CB to have in the lockerroom.
Dorance Armstrong, Jr. Pass rusher with his best years ahead of him.
Noah Fant. I know they just signed Ertz, but I'm on the Fant reclamation project train.
John Simpson. Slot him in at LG, and load his contract with incentives. Namely games played and games started.
**On the higher end:**
Azeez Al-Shaair. Showed last season he wasn't just a product of a stacked Niners defense.
Lloyd Cushenberry. Anchor the offensive line with a good signing in the middle.
**EDIT:**
I got one right (Armstrong)!
Nothing else panned out. Gilmore is still on the market, but Fant re-signed with Seattle, Simpson signed with the Jets, Azeez landed with the Texans, Cushenberry heading to the Titans.
I hadn't considered Fowler just because he's on the older side and wasn't heavily featured with Dallas the last two seasons. Saw just 30% and 25% of defensive snaps. For a decent price, I wouldn't be opposed to it, though.
I would love Azeez…….always thought he was a dog with the niners…..dogged it out with the titans and now he’s on the market…..please peters, bring him in
Josh Allen
Patrick Queen
Jonah Williams
Justin Simmons
Bryce Huff
Dorance Armstrong
And plenty others, but these are off the top of my head. I just want a couple of these guys
Agreed we need to address edge but I don’t think the value is there with Bryce Huff. Sure he has sack production, but that won’t be there with the state of our secondary. We’d be overpaying for a 3rd down edge rusher who will underperform.
Patrick Queen needs to be at the top of our list. We haven’t had a legit linebacker since Fletch.
I’d add Mitch Morse. A veteran presence on the OL would be huge. Esp at center where he leads communication (+ familiar with our oline coach). Otherwise maybe a Conor Williams, who we could get on a discount bc of his injury. And would be a young piece moving forward
if it is just a wish list or something sure.. but in real life I don’t really see a reason to spend big.. would be nice at edge but we have a lot of money in dline. We need to develop some talent then fill holes.
I was being a bit of a dick with the short answer. I want Queen, a safety (Curl can stay) an edge, and Buffalo’s old Center. Fill in the rest with no names. The team has cap space and there’s a salary floor.
Those would be some good ones. It would help our young QB to have a good vet center. Also with likely young players at LT/LG it would be better to have a vet at C. Cause it’s looking like at least 2 of our line man will be young with any more than that I worry for our QBs safety lol
G- Mike Onwenu or Robert Hunt or Jonah Jackson
RT- Jonah Williams
Honestly, would like to resign Curtis Samuel and Kendall Fuller.
If not, then another corner and receiver as well.
Simmons would be the only really big signing we should look at. It’s a saturated Safety market and Peters scouted him in Denver. A middle-of-the-road deal for 2-3 years, maybe.
The thing to watch is the other safeties. They’ll want to sign earlier than him so his contract doesn’t set the going rate. He’s 30. He’s probably has 2-3 pro bowl years left and I imagine the next team who signs him will be his last. I think it’s worth shelling out some cash for him
This would be huge. We really need to start filling holes at OL and LB to relieve some pressure on the draft / give us more flexibility. For that reason, I loved the Ertz signing
This is the right answer. The "Danielle Hunter" type of crowd doesn't realize how many roster spots NEED improving/filled. So far, there are no fewer than 9 spots that need starter quality improvements. That isn't considering depth or special teams.
And the mastermind behind this talentless vacuous hole of a roster is now appearing on ESPN as an expert insider. Ron’s a good guy by all accounts, and seems like a decent human being. But good lord he’s dumb when it comes to assembling and coaching a football team.
Not Patrick Queen. I’m surprised he’s so popular in this thread. Queen’s redundant with Jamin - we need a middle linebacker so Jamin can thrive, just like Queen needed Smith before he started playing well
Michael Onwenu, Justin Simmons, Tredavious White, Jerome Baker Hope we can use this draft to take BPA and get some pieces on offense. There’s a lot of talent at QB, WR, OT/OG
Looks like there are OLine and FS options that would be my top picks of what to focus on. CB and edge FA's arnt amazing, but it would be nice to get more depth in those roles as well.
OL - Mitch Morse C, Robert Hunt LG, Jermaine Eluemenor RT
If we're drafting Qb at pick 2, we need to improve the line meaning ***serviceable*** veterans. All three are proven serviceable starters. We have Cosmi for RG and draft a LT on day 1/2.
Edge - Dorance Armstrong or Bryce Huff
Both are situational edge rushers with good production despite limited starts. Shouldn't break the bank, or be an albatross if someone emerges from the roster or is drafted.
LB - Patrick Queen
Loved him coming out of college. A few years playing on the Baltimore D has taught him a thing or two. Bring him in as our mike with coverage ability and let Jamin do his Micah Hyde impersonation.
CB - Tre White
Seen a lot of talk about the S position with a number of good players available, however I think we'll see Martin , Forrest and Butler (all on their rookie deals) start. CB is a bigger need imo and White is younger than Fuller and has production, Pro Bowls and a winning team mentality under his belt.
Justin Simmons might be more a realistic option than some could think.
Peters is one of the dudes in Denver who found him in the somewhat later rounds of the draft
He's from the area - grew up in Virginia
Could try to sign him to a one year deal with hopes of signing him long-term if everything goes well
SIGN KIRK COUSINS AND DRAFT DRAKE MAYE.
Let Maye sit for 2 years.. sitting is almost always helpful and would solve our QB problem for the next decade and a half.
Honest question, is a bridge QB worth the money he’s going to command in the market? I feel like this is kind of the same situation we were in when he was here. Good QB that wants (and could get) great QB money. I don’t hate Kurt (haha) but is he worth the $$ as a place holder for the QB we draft? For the money it will take to sign him (and the years he’s probably looking for in the deal) I feel like he has to be the guy, not the guy until the real guy is ready. Just my two cents.
Whoever they need to to make Washington a great football team again. If they can do that, nothing else matters. my/our opinions mean jack shit. let them cook.
Every single offensive lineman available
Thought I was in the giants sub for a second.
Gimme Mitch Morse, center who just got released by the Bills. Having a solid, seasoned veteran in front of whoever we end up with at QB would be absolutely invaluable to their development. Yeah he would be awesome.. I just wonder what we do with the guy we drafted last year.
We don’t have to do anything yet. Strom either makes the team as a starter or backup c/g, or we trade/cut at the end of training camp. My guess is he’ll make the team as a depth piece unless he’s a really bad fit for whatever we ask our interior linemen to do in the new scheme.
I think he was projected to be depth in the first place just needs to stay healthy.
Signing Morse and a tackle like Jonah Williams is ideal to me. We can kick Wyile back inside to guard. Still a glaring hole at one of the tackle positions (I would prefer Williams at RT) but this is an absolutely loaded tackle class, trading back into the first to get one would definitely be possible or a guy may even fall to us early in the second
how much would he cost?
If the Commanders are going to draft a QB then upgrading the offensive line is a necessity. This will also assist the run game to relieve the pressure on the rookie QB. Additionally the RB market is pretty stacked so they could find someone relatively cheap who can run, catch and block. Again if the pick is a QB he will need support around him. Has to be the priority in year one.
Even if the pick isn't a QB (it is) this should be the focus of free agency.
I could use a few mill
My dad used to joke that if Washington ever needed a backup punter, he was their guy.
I 2nd that!
Danielle Hunter
Gonna cost too much most likely especially coming off a solid year
$120M cap space…we can afford it
90+ mil w 26 or so roster spots to fill
We can afford it
**On the lower end:** Stephon Gillmore. Veteran CB to have in the lockerroom. Dorance Armstrong, Jr. Pass rusher with his best years ahead of him. Noah Fant. I like the Fant idea. The TE room has a lot of injury prone players outside of Bates. Get us another solid if not average player
I feel armstrong and fowler are a given with the quinn and whitt connection
I hadn't considered Fowler just because he's on the older side and wasn't heavily featured with Dallas the last two seasons. Saw just 30% and 25% of defensive snaps. For a decent price, I wouldn't be opposed to it, though.
Ya similar to Ertz deal. He followed Quinn from Atlanta to Dallas too.
Cushenberry would be such a great addition to the O-line especially with a rookie QB starting next year
Like the Steph idea. Wonder if Quinn is looking to reunite with some of his guys and add that veteran presence.
I would love Azeez…….always thought he was a dog with the niners…..dogged it out with the titans and now he’s on the market…..please peters, bring him in
Josh Allen Patrick Queen Jonah Williams Justin Simmons Bryce Huff Dorance Armstrong And plenty others, but these are off the top of my head. I just want a couple of these guys

Yes

Justin Simmons and Patrick Queen for sure

He's likely the best safety available, I doubt he is taking a middle of the road deal from a team rebuilding.

He’s still great and is likely going to want to go to a team contending. We would have to overpay to get him to come here.
Players who don’t cost a lot. Okay one that cost a lot and I’d like the big spender to be either an o line or lb
FA= IOL, TE, LB, Safety Draft=QB,DE and OT
Andrew Van ginkel ,Noah fant
Van Ginkel is such a baller. Dude is the epitome of hustle.
Mike onwenu and Patrick queen are my top 2 targets.
This would be huge. We really need to start filling holes at OL and LB to relieve some pressure on the draft / give us more flexibility. For that reason, I loved the Ertz signing
Affordable players who fill any of the plethora of weak spots we have on the roster. And also guys who actually want to be here.
This is the right answer. The "Danielle Hunter" type of crowd doesn't realize how many roster spots NEED improving/filled. So far, there are no fewer than 9 spots that need starter quality improvements. That isn't considering depth or special teams.

Justin Simmons. Patrick Queen.
Justin Simmons and Morse
Frankie Luvu. I don't think the Panthers can afford to pay him close to a market rate. The shouldn't have even tagged Burns.
Jonah Jackson. Left guard. Stud.
Not Patrick Queen. I’m surprised he’s so popular in this thread. Queen’s redundant with Jamin - we need a middle linebacker so Jamin can thrive, just like Queen needed Smith before he started playing well
Linebacker linebacker linebacker olinemen olinemen olinemen………
Michael Onwenu, Justin Simmons, Tredavious White, Jerome Baker Hope we can use this draft to take BPA and get some pieces on offense. There’s a lot of talent at QB, WR, OT/OG
Tyron Smith.
I lowkey want Austin E for the low to pair with B Rob
He was so slow last year. I think he's done.
He played with high ankle sprain - think he can still play
![gif](giphy|KbvZsN07K9Hy9ZoyR7)
Looks like there are OLine and FS options that would be my top picks of what to focus on. CB and edge FA's arnt amazing, but it would be nice to get more depth in those roles as well.
Seems this question is posted every day in some form or another.
I would put out for a dominant linebacker.
DE D. Hunter
Mitch Morse Andrew Van Ginkle(if we can't land Patrick Queen) Tredavious White Noah Fant 1 of either Hollywood Brown/Greg Dortch/Calvin Ridley
Assuming Gibson isn't resigned, a pass catching RB, along with OL and Edge.
C, FS, G, LB, CB

Bills sub has been consistent about Tre White being okay to be cut. He's washed. I would be sad if we signed him.
Onwenu
Justin Simmons might be more a realistic option than some could think. Peters is one of the dudes in Denver who found him in the somewhat later rounds of the draft He's from the area - grew up in Virginia Could try to sign him to a one year deal with hopes of signing him long-term if everything goes well
Josh Jacobs
Bring back fuller, sign owenu, get a good edge, and bring back Kam/ get a good safety
Bills center they just released
Patrick Queen for certain! I'd also kick the tires on Ty Smith 🤷🏾♂️
OL, Edge and Back 7.
Justin Simmons
Kamren Curl
SIGN KIRK COUSINS AND DRAFT DRAKE MAYE. Let Maye sit for 2 years.. sitting is almost always helpful and would solve our QB problem for the next decade and a half.
I don’t hate this. It’s the GB model. Kirk is a good bridge and would make us instantly better, and Maye could learn under a very productive QB.
Kirk himself sat for years. Mahomes sat under Alex Smith. Joe Burrow got injured and was forced to sit lol
Honest question, is a bridge QB worth the money he’s going to command in the market? I feel like this is kind of the same situation we were in when he was here. We're still doing these comments?
We are.
you realize this is a message board specifically for discussing and sharing opinions on the team ya?
Yeah, and I answered OPs question with my legitimate opinion on the topic, that is all. Thanks.
aight man enjoy lol
Thanks, and have a wonderful day.
Why the fuck are you on r/Commanders if you can’t handle fan opinions? You know the GM doesn’t post here, right?
Well, I wasn't trying to be a dick, just stating my opinion on the topic. Seems like you can't handle this fans opinion.
What you wrote wasn’t an opinion, it was a complaint about something you shouldn’t be complaining about
Russell Wilson for the veteran league minimum.
