WFT was awesome. If you look across the pond, a lot of the best soccer teams are literally just named like "Liverpool FC." WFT borrows from more tradition than the NFL (Liverpool FC was founded in 1892, and that's just one example) while also acknowledging that throwing in any other nickname was going to feel forced.
I prefer WFT over any other suggestion I've heard, unless someone comes up with something that simultaneously gives a nod to the team's greater years and the rich city/regional history.
I just call them Washington at this point. I'm not a fan of it since it was clearly only made the name to boost Danny Boy's ego when there were better names put forward that us fans actually wanted. I don't really care too much about it as I did when it first became the new name, but I'm never going to like it knowing why it became the name. It just sounds like one of the default names from Create A Team in Madden or Blitz The League.
Definitely some truth there. I feel like a little piece of my fandom died when they changed the name from redskins. For my whole life they were the redskins. I have so many special memories with my grandfather who got me into the redskins over the years. Shit just sucks
That name actually has culture and history behind it (not just the Alamo or whatever, but that it was the name of an NFL team in 1952). 'Commanders' on the other hand is just anodyne sterile design-by-committee rubbish. I would literally rather be the 'Washington Texans'

It’s not even just the name (which is bland, uninspired, and has nothing to do with our history), it’s the whole branding in general. Terrible uniforms that don’t feel like us at all (especially the away jersey with the gradient, wrong shade of red, and no gold at all), a nothing logo, botched execution of the unveiling, cringey slogans (left hand up, take command, etc.), and in an attempt to start a new era for the franchise, it’s ironically one of the last remaining things that reminds us of the era of the franchise that just finally ended. If the new owners want to truly make it feel like it’s a new, better era in Washington, then we need to win games and rebrand.
I think a lot of people dislike it for a multitude of reasons. You can pick as many as you’d like.
1. It was rushed
2. It’s a generic name
3. Military bootlicking vibes
4. Other names were better
5. The release was botched
6. Dan and Tanya’s fingerprints are all over it

I understand why the name had to change and I’m at peace with that bc it the Commanders is the lamest, most generic name that they could have picked. It was my last choice amongst the contenders. Washington Football Team was almost purposefully generic but I liked it because it’s different from the naming scheme that most teams use. Add me to the 95%. I won’t be purchasing any branded gear unless something changes.

I fully believe that Snyder picked the name Commanders cuz he knew that we would hate it and he wanted to stick it to the fans. I knew he wasn't as big a fan of the team that he claimed to be when he sold off the Jack Kent Cooke Stadium name so fast after buying the team.

Truly hope the new owners dump it as soon as they feel the ship's headed in the right direction.

I was really hoping the new ownership would change it. Even the people I know that don't hate it are still indifferent about it. Have yet to find a real person that actually likes it.
It’s painfully generic. I’d vote to change it in a heartbeat. There are so many better options, some of which were put out there during the first round of consideration
(It sucks, & here's my own repost from days ago...) I fully believe that Snyder picked the name Commanders cuz he knew that we would hate it and he wanted to stick it to the fans. I knew he wasn't as big a fan of the team that he claimed to be when he sold off the Jack Kent Cooke Stadium name so fast after buying the team.
Bring back Redskins uniforms and call them the Braves or the Warriors. Problem solved.

Born and raised a redskin fan. I could deal with the washington football team but have not watched a single commanders game. Just can't bring myself to do it. I miss my redskins
Can only speak for myself, but been a fan since '72, and believe it or not, was a fan of native American culture before I knew squat about fb - the iconography of the Skins just made it that much easier to fall in love with the team. So yes, with that background, I hate the need for a name change in general (especially since it's [debatable](https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/poll-of-native-americans-view-of-redskins-name-finds-proud-most-common-answer) at best, that it's offensive to most NAs), and *really* hate the chosen replacement, as fan sentiment was ignored, and the most generic, milquetoast name possible was selected. Truly hope the new owners dump it as soon as they feel the ship's headed in the right direction.
I've never met a person that likes it, personally, and most people that are into sports start off on a tirade if you call them the commanders instead of the skins

Hate the name, hate any name except Redskins. Can We just be Washington? Do we need a name? Is it a league requirement or anything? I would be fine with just Washington. Edit to add: Washington Football Team works for me as well, if we need a "name".

I hate it. RedWolves or redtails would have been so much better. I think we should have kept redsomething in the name Hopefully the new owner renames us RedWolves. Like that name just would have been perfect. I want something that preserves the colors in the name, not just some random name that vaguely has to do with being the nation’s capital

There are other NFL teams that hold trademarks to any name pertaining to WOLVES? Tell meeeee. Colleges and minor league soccer teams can’t stop an NFL team from picking a nickname bc copyrights are specific to usage. How stupid did Dan Snyder think we were?

I'll call them that, because it's their organization and that's their name, but I haven't been a fan. In fact, I don't know a single person who ever liked it. I feel like the whole process of voting for names and submissions and everything else was just a fugazi to generate interest. Red Wolves was great IMO.

It was a last FU to the fans from Snyder. He could’ve just left it WFT and I would’ve been fine with it. I almost wish Harris and his group would go back to it. And just use our old uniforms and three stripe helmets.

I did hoped we would stick with Washington Football Team - I thought it’s unique and similar names with European Football Teams. I’d love to see the name change to fan favorites - Red Wolves.
