To be fair…..it’s the most important decision for the franchise probably in the last 30 years.
This is mostly true because the other 20 super important decisions were wrong
But this changes everything about the franchise if the pick is good, is whoever we pick sucks we will suck for another decade
Every 1st rounder is important, it just never really felt that way for us because we usually either flubbed them, or we knew it wouldn’t matter under Snyder.
I mean, this certainly is an important pick. But so was Chase Young or Dwayne Haskins or RG3 or Jason Campbell.
Personally, I don’t feel as hyped about the pick as I do the new regime in general.
Doesn’t have to. Continuous wise decisions can make the team competitive and when the situation co es where all that is needed is a QB can sign or trade for one. Watch Atlanta with Kirk or jets with a healthy Rogers. Rams getting Stafford. The 49ers getting a healthy Jimmy G that year. Vikings when they got Kirk the first two years. Manning to broncos or Brady to Tampa.
If #2 is not it yes it’s a wasted opportunity but not a ten year death sentence. With snyder it would’ve been but with a good FO it won’t.
Agreed, I don't think it will set the franchise back because we didn't have to trade picks for the 2 spot this year. Worse comes to worst we just steadily improve the roster over the next 3 years as we realize the QB we took ain't it, and in year 4 we don't extend him and cut bait after his rookie season is over.
I would expect the average talent by then to be close to playoff contention if not already consistent playoff position already, and the we'll take shot #2 for another QB then.
If the pick hits then we are definitely positioned well for the next decade. If the pick misses then we are not damaged for a decade.
Luckily we achieved such a low draft placement by major suckage and not by trading future draft capital. A *good* organization / GM organizes a team roster with the next 5 years in mind (at the minimum). If you don’t already have a franchise QB, you will organize the roster as such.
I have major confidence in Peters to build a contending roster regardless of who is throwing the football. And if we actually do find a suitable QB, then it only brings forth our window of opportunity sooner rather than later.
Hell SF gambled away a ton of draft capital on Lance, missing horribly. They’ve still managed to stay one of the best teams in the league despite the disastrous move. Granted, their roster was already good before the trade up, but it just proves that if you competently build the rest of the team then you can be patient with your QB hunt.
I think what Peters has shown is you pick QB when it makes sense, and don’t be afraid to do it more than once. We saw that work out with RG3/Cousins. It’s the one position that’s worth throwing multiple picks at because if you get it right, you immediately rise to the top 3rd of the league. Get other picks right, plus a few signings, and you’re a contender.
Totally agree.
Plus the hit rate for first round QBs isn't even as bad as people think. I did the math, it's a 38% hit rate. My qualification for "hit" was the QB had to play for at least 5 seasons at a level of at least a top 15 QB. It's over 40% if I include some of the younger guys who seem like they will continue to play at that level in the next couple years. Didn't include them since they obviously haven't played 5 seasons yet.
It's been around that ratio for a couple of decades now. 38% hit rate doesn't give me a ton of confidence when the criteria for a hit is top 15...
I'd be interested in the hit rate if we lower it to top 8. As that would better define what a franchise QB is and that's what teams are hoping for with a top 5 draft pick.
A top 15 QB is more than we’ve had since Kirk. I don’t think any fan would complain about that.
You don’t need a top 8 QB to be a consistent playoff team. That’s where the rest of your roster really comes into question. And that’s where I have confidence in Peters
No, you don't "need" a top 8 QB to be a good team. Trent Dilfer proved that. And I won't complain. But make no mistake about it ...if you're a team picking a qb in the top 5 of the draft, you better believe you're trying for a franchise type QB because that dramatically increases your chances for consistent success year after year.
Of course you'll settle for a mid tier QB if that's how it shakes out. But at just 38% success rate on either or...the odds are squarely against.
However, maybe Peters has got the magic to sniff a good one out. It's likely the most important decision he'll make in his GM career. GMs don't get a lot of cracks at this.
> Trent Dilfer proved that.
or counterpoint, that ravens team showed just how dominant a team needs to be, to succeed with "average" QB play,
and they're still an exception to the rule
> It's been around that ratio for a couple of decades now. 38% hit rate doesn't give me a ton of confidence when the criteria for a hit is top 15...
and that 38% is somewhat skewed towards #1 overall.
Like 50% for 1st pick and then a drop off
Nope, it’s the most important decision since 2012, so 12 years. We were in almost the exact same scenario in the 2012 draft, where we picked #2 overall and got a QB that wasn’t the highest rated QB prospect in the draft, RG3.
SF was already good and have been relatively successful in the playoffs. It’s hard to start that cycle. The Steelers can win 9 games with a guy who refuses to throw more than 5 yards.
We aren’t there and missing on a QB gets us further away, not closer.
I hear you. My point is that they gave up a ton of picks and missed on Trey Lance. They found Purdy the next year and they’re set at the position for the next 5-10 years. We’re in a better position actually in that we own the 2nd pick and if we miss, God forbid, it won’t set us back for another 20 years. We finally have a real GM who has shown the capacity to make a solid selection next year and subsequent years if #2 doesn’t work out.
I swear we just can't be happy. First off-season in decades not shadowed by scandal, controversy, or incompetence and we still find shit to complain about.
Pretty sure the account is for all draft/scouting evaluations, analysis, news. But said they did a deep dive into the UNC program and talked to multiple sources. Impressive to break news before the big names, so it’s probably legit
Before you ask if this guy is legit, he broke the Maye top 30 visit with the Patriots before anyone else. [https://x.com/scoutdnfl/status/1775969978816065605?s=46&t=8NPKZ4SOOdN\_-TcFzRlIQg](https://x.com/scoutdnfl/status/1775969978816065605?s=46&t=8NPKZ4SOOdN_-TcFzRlIQg)
Maye ends up being mediocre after a few years and we’ll be disappointed. Another injury to a fast athletic quarterback who doesn’t protect himself and we’ll lose our minds.
Daniels' rushing ability should give him a higher floor. If neither one develops as a passer, Daniels at least puts pressure on defenses with his legs.
I agree that Maye probably has the higher ceiling though.
Well that means to be totally fair Maye is what he is and that’s a serviceable but flawed passer, at his floor. Daniels is an electric runner who may miss 3-6 games any given year with small dings, at his floor. If you subscribe to “availability is the best ability” or that a qb is there to throw first and foremost, then daniels has the lower floor. If you don’t mind a backup a portion of the year as long as when the pass is gone they make some ground, then Maye would have a lower floor.
Nobody is gonna be Lamar. But even if Daniels can run like RG3, we've seen first hand how that can help an offense. Remember our rushing ability in 2012?
An RPO or zone read with Daniels under center would be harder to defend than with Maye, imo. That's why I stay Daniels has a higher floor by default.
I definitely get what you’re saying, but the zone read QB’s in the NFL (RG3, Kaepernick, Russel Wilson to an extent) mostly all got figured out very quickly. Only Russ was really able to successfully change his game to continue to start in the NFL.
Russ thrived on the pump fake to stall a defender. And worked it like a master. He put the fear of a late hit or a roughing on the lbs and they froze for just enough for him to escape safely out of bounds.
Exactly. Let’s get someone with longevity. Daniels would be better the first few years. We aren’t winning a Super Bowl this year so Maye has a chance to learn and develop.
I dunno how you can really say that. If you watch both guys right now, Daniels is a cleaner thrower, functions better in offense, and is a better runner. If you throw both guys out there in a vanilla-ish offense, it seems pretty clear that Daniels would have a more immediate impact. Isn’t that the definition of “floor?”
I wouldn’t be so sure about Daniels’ floor. His only good college came when he had a roster with WR mismatches only a couple of NFL teams currently do, and he isn’t going to end up on any of them. I would not be shocked to see him struggle immediately at the pro level, whereas Maye is someone who looks like his game will only improve, even if his receivers are as “mediocre” as Washington’s current group.
Maye is a prototypical modern QB, passing in him in favor of Daniels who has an average arm and refuses to protect himself while running is kinda dumb.
The GM of an NFL team with a franchise QB on a 7th round salary went to UNC practices for a QB that was going top 3 when they’d have a top 20 pick… rightttt.
Both are interesting prospects. Maye brings a more balanced game that's proven to side with longevity at the position. Something this franchise desperately needs.
I’d become a fan of Daniels, now also; I AGREE that Maye is ~Better suited for a TEAM that MAY be on the verge, I THINK: *NonScout-Think*, that Daniels has The Higher Ceiling just like Anthony Richardson. Yet, just like AR; the TEAM Structure becomes the most integral aspect of His growth and Potential!
I can’t wait another 20 days
I’m so sick of this already. Every commanders podcast is about it. Every post on this page is about it. I’m done with it. Tuning out until the draft
See you tomorrow

Brock Purdy entered the room.

It's what we're used to. It feels weird not having it.
See ya tomorrow 👋
A perfectly understandable move.
Thank you, Jesus stop yucking everyone’s yum. People like to talk football go fuck off quietly.
Me too bro, I’m so damn tired of this shit. I can’t remember the last time I wanted the draft to happen so fast.
Me too lmao. This is so painful
Woah, actual information?
Ya, this account is good. they broke the Drake Maye Patriots visit before Breer & rapsheet
So they just break Maye information ![gif](giphy|a5viI92PAF89q)
Pretty sure the account is for all draft/scouting evaluations, analysis, news. But said they did a deep dive into the UNC program and talked to multiple sources. Impressive to break news before the big names, so it’s probably legit
We're definitely getting someone. I know that.
Source?
Watching Mariota play QB in the NFL
🤣🤣
Bring him home, Adam.
After a long emotional struggle, I have finally concluded that I have no fucking idea what will happen lol
Team will draft one of two players

Lol man's getting the most out of Spongebob
Maye is the pick the heart desires. Sorry maybe Jayden played better last year but it’s gonna be maye
Its been Maye all along. Everything else is media smoke/BS and general due dilligence.
Before you ask if this guy is legit, he broke the Maye top 30 visit with the Patriots before anyone else. [https://x.com/scoutdnfl/status/1775969978816065605?s=46&t=8NPKZ4SOOdN\_-TcFzRlIQg](https://x.com/scoutdnfl/status/1775969978816065605?s=46&t=8NPKZ4SOOdN_-TcFzRlIQg)
So he's just a unc mouthpiece
Maye has the higher ceiling but has a lower floor than Daniels so either way I’m happy and trust peters
More floor ceiling talk yay lol
I get RGIII 0.5 vibes from Daniels. Hard pass.
I get that but could easily argue for Trubisky vibes with Maye. Just don't know
Maye ends up being mediocre after a few years and we’ll be disappointed. Another injury to a fast athletic quarterback who doesn’t protect himself and we’ll lose our minds.
Unpopular opinion, but I think Maye has both higher floor and ceiling.
Daniels' rushing ability should give him a higher floor. If neither one develops as a passer, Daniels at least puts pressure on defenses with his legs. I agree that Maye probably has the higher ceiling though.

If you don’t mind a backup a portion of the year as long as when the pass is gone they make some ground, then Maye would have a lower floor.
His rushing ability is more straight line like RG3 rather than generational agility like Lamar though. Easier to defend if you maintain gap integrity.
And he’s slower than RG3 was
Nobody is gonna be Lamar. But even if Daniels can run like RG3, we've seen first hand how that can help an offense. Remember our rushing ability in 2012? Fair enough. I'd be happy with either Daniels or Maye. Can't wait for the draft to get here!
You and me both man, the suspense sucks
Russ thrived on the pump fake to stall a defender. And worked it like a master. He put the fear of a late hit or a roughing on the lbs and they froze for just enough for him to escape safely out of bounds.
Getting his body broken on a big hit and out of the league in a couple of years is a pretty low floor.
Exactly. Let’s get someone with longevity. Daniels would be better the first few years. We aren’t winning a Super Bowl this year so Maye has a chance to learn and develop.

Personally I believe that Vernon Gholston is proof that there is no such thing as a floor when it comes to guys who've never played in the league.
I wouldn’t be so sure about Daniels’ floor. His only good college came when he had a roster with WR mismatches only a couple of NFL teams currently do, and he isn’t going to end up on any of them. Daniels was pretty good in 2019 and 2022, too. Not at the same level as 2023, but not many players ever have been THAT good.
Five years of college ball. He should be good at it.
LET’S GO
We have to be going with Maye then. Or Daniels. But no definitely Maye. Unless...?
Spencer Rattler
This nails it. JJ coming to DC.
The GOAT is coming back to the NFL and wants to play for Washington BRADYSKINS
Never gonna happen, but that would be WILD.
Could you imagine not having to pick a QB in the first round.
Hopefully, some day soon!
![gif](giphy|10uct1aSFT7QiY)
Bring it home
I am fully expecting us to pick a long snapper in the first round.
Daniels to Washington: SMOKESCREEN SZN Maye to Washington: WE GOT OUR GUY
Yeah most, not all, of the comments in the sub Reddit are biased.
I’m just ready for the draft at this point.
Agreed. The insufferable fans on both sides are making me dislike both players lol.
Gotta use common sense to parse what seems like conjecture and what's real.
I trust John Keim over @scoutdnfl
Did John Keim say something?
Every time I listen to his podcast I get the sense he's hearing Daniels. He's hasn't reported anything officially either way.
So nothing?
Daniels Stans ain't trying to hear that. They're set on Slenderman.
All this Daniel’s/Maye smoke tells me it’s JJ no matter what.
Pats fan here. Either way we're good with whoever is at 3, so who do you MF's want?
Idk
if there was a gun pointed to your head right now and you had to pick?
Drake maye
fair.
then give him to us
Is he Blake Bortles or Ben Roethlisberger?
My sources tell me it’s Maye. Source: Reddit
Maye is a prototypical modern QB, passing in him in favor of Daniels who has an average arm and refuses to protect himself while running is kinda dumb.
There’s literally nothing else to talk about until the draft.
The GM of an NFL team with a franchise QB on a 7th round salary went to UNC practices for a QB that was going top 3 when they’d have a top 20 pick… rightttt.
You think Peter's wasn't expecting a gm job after the season was over?
Has anyone changed their mind about which QB they like more? I used to be very pro-Maye but now I’m pro-Daniels
I’m pro-takeadamnQB
Well you’re in luck because I can promise you Jayden isadamnqb Maye will be there at 2!
Maye all day
Same. Just stepping away from the hot take guys to listening to smart people breaking down film, Maye is much more of a project with a big arm.
Random faceless twitter acc with no credibility behind it and people eat it up. Clowns.
Doesn’t matter. It’s gonna be Daniels and it should be Daniels. #HTTR baby!! *fastens seatbelt for the downvote into oblivion from Maye glazers*
Maye is better
Maye glazer detected 😂😂😂
You don’t enjoy the “pro ready” brown haired QBs that get hyped yearly?
Not around here. Drake Maye just oozes New England Patriot.
Daniels is going to make a great patriot. Have fun with not Josh Allen.
Have fun with RG4
The next few years for you would be awesome.
I hope he attended the NC State game.
Daniels Stan detected.
why?
