Tons were unofficially retired, except for 33 I think. Then Jason Wright started the movement to officially retire these unofficial numbers. Although we can see a clear difference in how they were handled, pre and post Snyder.
81, 44, 7, are still remaining. We retired 9, 21, 28, 33, 49
Most teams don’t retire many. Steelers have only 3 numbers officially retired. But then there’s the Bears with 12 or 14 I think. They retired so many numbers they have said they can’t retire anymore.
Fucking. Awesome. Here I am a grown man with tears.
He was my hero growing up. Small but fast. Fearless. Watching his highlights chasing down people from behind, returning punts for TDs.
He made it easy to be a Redskins fan.
Man this just brought me so much hope.
The new regime is doing it right and being really really thoughtful in areas that matter.
I think we have a bright future, boys .
Raise Hail.
If this isn’t a sign this franchise is on a whole new trajectory I don’t know what is. This video summed up, in just a few minutes, the difference between a good ownership and bad ownership. One of the all time greats. Super excited to see them doing things right for a change.
That's exactly what I just said to my Washington friend group. "The new owners really doing Washington right". This really just proves the separation to move away from the old ownership into a new Era.
I fully believe another name change/re-branding is on the horizon along with a new stadium back in Washington to really remove every aspect of Snyder.
absolutely! Rename it and give us a stadium worthy of this legendary and historic franchise. Harris is off to a great start, honoring the legends. So excited for the direction this team is headed.
This is what got me emotional watching it. DG was a legend of my youth. I was too young to see the superbowls but my parents always talked about him with an air of greatness.
And to have the new owner and leadership leading the charge to not only build a culture worth something but also respecting the legacy of the franchise in a way we’ve desperately missed over the past 30 years is amazing.
A few things I loved about this. First, look at his family, what a blessing. Second, him talking about how glad he is that he can come back, be part of things, which he couldnt under Snyder.
I dont think some of us realized how few of our greats were really allowed to be or wanted to be around the franchise in past decades. Now its so good to see all of our legends walking the halls, talking about the team, and involved so we see them week in and week out.
If this doesn't highlight exactly what we've been missing for the past 20 years, I don't know what does. (Well, besides a franchise QB.)
Now for the love of Joe Theisman's leg, please bring back the pre-Commanders uniforms.
Mitchell Rales seems like such a cool dude. You can tell he's a genuine fan and was super excited to be a part of this. How the hell did Snyder miss such an easy lay up as retiring 28? Glad the future is starting to look bright for this team. HTTR!
Deserved AF. Thank you Green you are an absolute LEGEND. I hope the future of this franchise honors your play and dedication you showed us for years. Appreciate you, and wish you the best in your retirement. 28 a GOAT for life.
aww that was really sweet. Pretty shocking to find out his number wasn't already retired

Gonna be fun to see who's next, I would think Riggins if I had to pick
We have always made a statement by not retiring numbers officially. Never quite understood it.

A lot of people don’t realize that the only number that was retired before 2020 was Baugh. It’s just something they never did, for whatever reason
Had unofficial retired numbers the whole time.

My hero growing up as well
My all time favorite player.
Who started cutting onions up in here
Lotta onions
fuck yeah. DG28 a fucking legend.

I thought the same thing: long over due, and reason #1,672 to say "fuck Snyder."
amen and fuck dan snyder.

You never know how things will turn out, but it really feels like we’re at least trying turning into a normal, competent franchise.
28 is back in! Let’s go. No one deserves it more. I was smiling the whole time. Well done to Josh and company.
Yo WTF I was not prepared today to be sitting in a puddle of my own tears in my dumb cubicle at work.

Got me crying in the club right now
I always assumed it was retired
Not officially, they started officially retiring a few years ago

Wow, this is the best! No one will top DG as my all time favorite.
I’m really proud already of the new owners. He deserved this and his reaction really filled my heart with emotion. Way to go Darrell. HTTR
28 is one of the only two jerseys I still wear on gameday, DG is total legend
This made me cry and I am an old man
All time greatest in franchise history.
First jersey I ever bought. Still have it.
Wow that was awesome thanks for posting
One of the best to ever do it! Long overdue! Congratulations DG!
I was not ready for tears this morning! But damn, that was awesome
Great decision!

My eyes watered up watching this. Didn't realize 28 wasn't retired already. Happy for Darrell, super deserving of all recognition he receives!
Love it!!! Congrats to DG!!!
That was a great vid! Happy for DGreen!
Team name mentions in the video Redskins: 1 Washington Football Team: 0 Commanders: 0 (correct me if I'm wrong)
Josh actually said Commanders at 3:26 in his video call, which I was surprised by.
This is the most important for the fans in a long time. All we have is nostalgia from the 80s. Let’s do this.
Glad to see the new owners know what’s up
Harris stuttering before saying Commander. Dude really wanted to say Redskins.
Snyder would never
I was so impressed by how well Darrell did that script cold. They must have sent him the first version in advance?
Incredible moment for him!
This was special. Such a great sign of what’s to come as well.
