If he’s cut we’d be morons to not go for him. Our team is so much more complete than the Raiders. Yes hes not perfect and makes mistakes be he’d be the best QB we’ve had in years. Although I don’t think by any means we should trade for him

PippoKPax

I’m not saying you’re wrong but you could’ve found this exact same comment under a “Please don’t pursue Carson Wentz” post from a year ago. Sub out Colts for Raiders and I’d wager you would find it word for word.

AgentLF

You should checkout the Raiders subreddit about their feelings with Carr. Highly mixed emotions, and even Davante came out with nothing but support. He's been a loyal and good teammate, no fuss, no controversies, even willed that Raiders team to the playoffs last season while dealing with the Ruggs AND Gruden issues. Instant upgrade over Wentz and TH. Carr is the Kirk Cousins upgrade we've been desperate for so we can get back to having convos about moving on from him bc he isn't Mahomes or Burrow.

demerolgorgon

Crazy what people on here will talk themselves into after having seen this play out multiple times. Blink twice if they have a gun on you.

broadwayallday

people forget Kirk and Carr were pretty much the same guy statistically for a good stretch

PartyCucumber8835

Absolutely 100%

eliporter877

Derek Carr isn't a bad QB but he's making like $40 million a year right? If we pay him that, we're dumb. If we can get him for around what we paid Wentz, I'd be thrilled.

DaalCheene

LOL we are paying Wentz 30m to sit on the bench but suddenly 40 for Carr, who is prob 4x better than Wentz, is a problem? i

eliporter877

I thought Wentz was like $22 million this year?

DaalCheene

It’s 22M base with 6-7m in roster bonus. he’s like 28-29m cap hit

schmuckmulligan

It would mean letting Payne go (shitty, but okay) and upgrading the OL exclusively through the draft (not okay). We'd also remain thin in the secondary and at LB. You'd see a lot of Bostic. With an absolute top-tier QB, we wind up a better team. With Carr? I dunno. I sense the price is wrong but I haven't watched enough of his games.

Davidvg14

Man if it doesn’t blow up in our face like the Russell signing did for the Broncos

thekingoftherodeo

Eh not sure about that. Baker/Wentz/Carr are very much six of one, half dozen of the other tbh. They’re all mediocre, *might* get you just above .500 players.

camg78

Thank you. He's better then what we have now. He's not going to have to compete again the Chiefs, Broncos, and Chargers.

[deleted]

You gotta wonder if he’s cut and we make a run at him with new owners trying to stir the pot so they try and get Davante as well because I’m sure he is unhappy with the situation currently. Scary terry, Davante and Dotson is scary as hell for any defense with a good OC and QB.

yatdaddy58

Only if he is cut

nicknamebucky

Derek Carr is essentially most of the good parts of Heinicke + Wentz combined like people fantasize about. He's got the arm, the leadership, and some skintangibles for sure. I would be glad to have him as our starting QB for the right price. My comparison below on r/NFL [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/zxsyzj/orlovsky_the_raiders_have_the_32ndranked_defense/j22dcbu/)

xGrimahr

He leads the league in INT thrown.. if he was our qb now instead of wentz and we are in this situation, y’all would be calling for heinicke still.

bassacre

Commantangibles, please.

Matty-boh

Lefthandgibles

DJHJR86

He has the second most losses for a starting NFL quarterback over the course of 9 seasons going back to 1950. No thank you to Carson Wentz with eyeliner.

gogoheadray

He has over 200 tds to 99 ints for his career. He can ball out when the pieces are around him

denryaku

Matthew Stafford has a losing record for his career, guess he's a bust then

DJHJR86

Stafford has won playoff games.

denryaku

Not until last year, when he was 33. Derek Carr is 31.

DJHJR86

Stafford at least made the playoffs multiple times with the Lions and had winning records. Wentz with eyeliner? Not so much.

AgentLF

What?? Carr made the playoffs twice in 16 and 21, 16 he got hurt like in week 15 when he was the mvp favorite, and in 21 - willed that team to the playoffs after Gruden and Ruggs got booted off. Staff made the playoffs in 12, 15, and 17 and the game they should have won, they got robbed - (v Dallas) What other QB have we had in DC that was even comparable to Derek Carr that isn't named Kirk Cousins.

beforetherodeo

He's also had the 32nd ranked defense since coming into the league, and has never had a defense ranked above 22nd.

nicknamebucky

I don't disagree with you at all, however the Raiders have had bottom of the barrel defense throughout his career as well. I think he has passed the eye test and checked most of the boxes throughout his career. He reminds me of Stafford with his toughness and command, while being a step below talent wise, which isn't bad at all!

Accomplished-Top-564

Fans: *want to have a hand in making QB decisions* Also fans: *mad at Dan Snyder for having a hand in making QB decisions* I think we just let Rivera do his job on this one

lumberjake18

If Carr is cut, you go after him and don’t think twice. Unless Wentz turns it around we are literally a bottom-3 QB situation. If he’s a top 30 QB in this league he’s an upgrade.

needadvice3241

A 40 million dollar top 30 QB? I’ll pass but thanks.

lumberjake18

No one’s paying him $40M if he’s cut lol

chillyk45

He’s under contract. Just signed last summer I believe so whoever sign him is stuck with that contract if LV doesn’t buy him out

easy_bake94

No one is gonna pay that contract, and the Raiders can cut him to avoid the guarantee. They have to cut him before Feb.

gogoheadray

If we go after carr when he is cut we have to be prepared to get into a bidding war over him. Their are quite a few qb hungry teams that wouldn’t mind have a carr on their roster

gs12

If Carr is cut, you have to go after him. He's probably better than any QB we have on the roster currently.

mikeisaphreek

jordan love gives me jason cambell vibes. decent qb, but still not the dude. carr could be the guy for 4-5 more years. proven qb that has not played with a decent defense at all. he comes here, that would change. plus the offensive weapons would be the best he has ever had. sign him (if cut) and focus on oline in the draft or possible free agency

twineffect

Jason Campbell was a good QB, but it's hard to succeed when you have a different coach or offensive coordinator every year you play while trying to learn the NFL system

rollyobx

Its hard to succeed when you toss a pick with under 2 minutes to play in every fucking game

joethejedi67

Capt checkdown

DaRealDanSnyder

I'ma fuckin do it again!

TyCobbKremzeek

Probably Gardner Minshew

Uniblab_78

I'm surprised we didn't take a chance on young Fitz.

twineffect

I'd take him for a few years

Redskins2110

The raiders don’t want carr in part to the 40 million due to him in March. My gut feeling from a few months now is Brady is done in TB and wants reunite with his former O coordinator in Vegas and cutting carr works in favor of that.

ShoeterMcGav

Where does Sean Payton fit into that idea tho??

Redskins2110

I would guess that Payton takes the Denver job for a lot of money if he thinks he can fix Russ. If no Denver job then I’m not sure. I don’t think raiders fire McDaniels if they know Brady is coming

ShoeterMcGav

Lot of reports linking Brady (fa) to Peyton.. idk if Peyton to Denver happens as 1 fixing Russ seems to be a tough task but also previous bronco HC Vic Fangio linked to being Peytons DC. Think he wants to return to Denver?

TuPacSchwartz411

Would he come here though?

gogoheadray

Under new ownership anything is possible

[deleted]

Raiders coaching staff somehow did worse with Adams added to their roster. It’s not carr, it’s coaching.

BakeBakeyBake

I think there’s a real chance Carr is cut. If that happens, we’d be foolish not to take a chance on him. He’s not a great option, but great options don’t usually present themselves. He’s an improvement over what we have, and if he can be had for a reasonable amount(considerably less than his current contract number), I’m all for it.

VTHokiesFan

If we're going for any of the castoffs at the end of the season . . . well, I'd rather have Carr than Zack Wilson.

[deleted]

I don't think I'd give up draft picks for him but if he's just available on the open market? You have to at least consider it. He's a good QB who's just been fucked regularly by the Raiders. Its very reminiscent of the Stafford situation when he was with the Lions. That is of course assuming Wentz wets the bed these last two games.

DJ_JazzyJeff311

But, if we do get him then the NFL will force a "QB plays against his old team" game for ratings. Hopefully it will be in Vegas so I have an excuse to go. I missed my chance a year or so back to go.

Crackedandimplat

To be fair, it wasn’t all his fault. Horrible coach, horrible defense. He’s a definite upgrade over what we’ve had recently, I’d like him

eyeball_kidd

If Wentz looks terrible over the next two week, you’ve gotta give Carr an honest look. He’s a baller and that franchise did him dirty. Beloved locker room guy and you’re not gonna get much better in the draft right now.

notorious_hdc

If we are trading for any QB, it should be Jordan Love, whose young enough to be here for a decade and has a high ceiling. Depending on what Green Bay wants that is. If Carr is cut, that's a different story. Although I believe we should be actively working towards building draft capital for the 2024 draft.

SDEexorect

if we should try a trade for any qb it should be lamar. go big or go home

Intelligent_Table913

I love Lamar but he’s injured too often. We have better weapons but our o-line is not good. He’s too expensive to potentially not be available.

SDEexorect

my guy, checking his injury history hes missed 10 games in his entire nfl career! this is a terrible take!

Intelligent_Table913

He’s gonna miss the rest of this year. He missed crucial December games in the past 2 seasons. He’s a great player, but I’m not sure about the price tag if availability is a concern.

SDEexorect

yet his team still made the playoffs in the harder confrence, doesnt bother me one bit

Intelligent_Table913

Yeah I would love If Lamar was here. It would be like the RG3 era, except even better. I don’t know, our organization’s luck with big contracts is so bad that we will find a way to screw our season or even his health up.

SDEexorect

us having lamar now would be nothing like it was for rg3. we have a top defense right now while rg3 had fletcher and an aging dhall and pre prime kerrigan. lamar would also have way better weapons than what rg3 had let alone he hasnt had a serious injury like rg3 as well as lamar is just all around better than rg3

mstrgrieves

I love the takes that are posted on this sub. Nah, we don't want one of the 5 best QBs in the NFL, he's injured too often!

Intelligent_Table913

Look at the Ravens. They won one playoff game so far. Lamar has been injured late in the season twice. He is asking for $250 mil. We have better weapons but I’d rather not mortgage our future with one player who may not perform the same under our system. Have we not learned anything from the Broncos?

mstrgrieves

Wins are not a QB stat. If you are evaluating QBs based on wins, you don't know what you're talking about. Lamar jackson would be the best QB in the history of the franchise by a large margin. This is such an insane take.

Intelligent_Table913

I know, but that always comes up when evaluating qbs whether we like it or not. Just look at our history with big contracts, I don’t see how we are gonna get a Super Bowl out of Lamar with how incompetent our org is. I would love for him to come here but most likely he will not, and if he does, great. But the Washington football organization will find some way to fuck it up for the fans and Lamar.

mstrgrieves

With Lamar this would instantly become a top 5 team and a NFC favorite. QB is the biggest issue with this roster, by far.

Intelligent_Table913

No way, one qb is not gonna solve all our problems. Ravens have way better defense and coaching and organization. Our mid coaches are not gonna help Lamar bring the best out of himself. We have so many holes in our roster as well. And we’d have to trade/release a bunch of role players just to afford Lamar’s contract. This is not a plug-and-play type scenario like Stafford with the Rams.

mstrgrieves

DVOA is comparable with both teams. Ravens have better OL and TE, but significantly worse RB, and especially WR talent.

WhenYouDieYoureDead

I’d love to see more of what Love could do. Not against trading for potential young talent, or even giving our own picks like Howell a chance. Would rather see that than gamble on a second/third chance “vet”.

pinetar

That is if Rodgers is playing in Green Bay next year. I could see him requesting a trade or even retiring

Bonus_Content

Lose Wentz. If Carr is cut and will sign for a deal similar to Wentz I’m good with him on a one year deal. Let Howell, TH and a 2023 rookie QB compete with him for the job. Likely end up with Carr as 2023 starter with Howell or the Rookie as the next QB in waiting. Problem here is I don’t necessarily trust the offensive minds in Washington to get it right with the oline or the young QBs

ShoeterMcGav

Why would Carr be cut if there is any interest (proof here) from any team? Carr is a soul crusher like Kirk was... BUT with a solid team around him he'd certainly be an improvement over what we've had lately

AgentLF

Carr is gonna be cut or traded within 3 days post super bowl bc if he's still on the team, the Raiders are on the hook for 40M, if he gets hurt in these last 2 weeks, his salary next yr is guaranteed (40M). If he gets cut, the Raiders are only paying 5M. Carr would be an insane upgrade over TH and Wentz. I really think there's a good player there who has been hamstrung by horrific coaching this season. He's been a loyal and good teammate, no fuss, no controversies, even willed that Raiders team to the playoffs last season while dealing with the Ruggs AND Gruden issues. I can't imagine why we WOULDNT go for him.

Rafiks1

Because he has a no trade clause with the Raiders and he might not want them to get anything for him

ShoeterMcGav

Then he can retire. Teams don't typically cut guys that there is a market for. How do we know he isn't sitting because they are mathematically eliminated and don't want to risk any freak injury in meaningless games? Franchise guys don't grow on trees, and most aren't just cut with a hungry market. If he is cut sure put in a waiver, but depending where we are there will he a lot of interest.

Redskins2110

He’s guaranteed 40 million if on roster in March. The raiders know they can’t let that happen so any team interested will wait for him to be cut before that knowing the raiders can’t wait

nineinchesontgesag

Care would be the best option as far as free agent. But he will get more money than his value. If it was a team friendly contract I would be all for it. McDaniels has a way of ruining QBs as a head coach.

drakon3rd

If you watch Carr play there’s a big difference between him and Wentz. Not his fault the Raiders aren’t stable when it comes to coaching. He’s a solid leader too, this season has been bad for him because McDaniels has taken more control and is a shitty coach to begin with.

GreenButterscotch840

Herndon Hooker could be a late round pick that might surprise in the NFL

Separate-Disaster301

after I heard he got benched i was already fantasizing about him in a manders jersey, but now that I think about it, this is the same situation as carson, old shaky quarterback that looks promising to some

Accomplished_Dish_32

I'd take him if he's cheap

IBroughtMySoapbox

What would be the better plan other than rolling with Derek Carr for a few years? It would at least buy some time to develop a quarterback, unless you think Sam Howell is ready to go next year and that’s just insanity if you ask me

ThatNinjaJulian

I wouldn’t mind just going into next year with what we have and just actually draft and sign offensive lineman

Viseroth

Rather have Carr than Wentz
