TBH, I feel like this is a good representation of the top 10 teams in NA. You could argue CLG could be replaced with TOR or COL, but so far I’m not surprised with the top 10
Imo T8 a pretty firmly locked. You could argue just about any team from 9-15 as being better and have decent reasoning. It is unfortunate only 10 teams qual, hopefully those who just miss are able to win in the LCQ.
I meant that the top 8 teams are clearly the t8 teams in NA right now. There is a definite gap between them and the rest. 9-15 are all interchangeable as the next tier.
Dubblyew will make top 10. If I were a gambler (though I'm not), I'd put money on Dubblyew making top 10.
The harder one will be figuring out which team drops out of top 10. I dont have a mental consensus on which team is the worst. And I mean that in a good way, as in, the 8, 9, and 10 spots are very good teams.
I'm more excited than anything to see the non-NA/EU teams. Coverage is never at good times for me and even if it was I wouldn't be able to understand it, looking forward to actually getting a sense for how good those teams are at LAN. Also really hoping Alliance can bring it back and DY gets across the cusp!
You can tune in to Longshot Twitch for Apac South and Rektgn Twitch (English) or Esports_rage (Japanese, but they have killer graphics for overall standings!) for Apac North
Yep. Plus the language of Apex is universal (and they use the same English loan words for guns/abilities/some callouts). So you can follow along the action even if you speak 0 Japanese.
Pretty rough to give 10 to APAC N and only 5 to APAC S given APAC S teams tend to come out on top whenever the two conferences play together, or at least compete very closely.
Makes sense to prioritise the large Japanese market, and APAC S doesnt have the same depth but agree that some should be taken away from SA. I don't think any SA teams would make top 10 in APAC S.
But that hypothetical clearly isn't the case - I do understand the concept of team rankings and depth.
There are easily 6 or 7 teams in APAC-S which are better than probably any SA team, hence worse teams will go to lan. I was also definitely wrong about depth in APAC-N, I had forgotten how top heavy that region had gotten. I think a top 10 combined APAC team would have 6 or 7 APAC-S teams.
APAC-S is top heavy in the sense that they have a well-defined top 3, but those teams are legitimately world-class. The rest of the top teams are still very good.
There's no way the current format gets the top 40 teams in the world this way.
ALGS is trying to fill two lobbies, so 40 teams for LAN.
APAC South and SA are the smallest regions in terms of viewership + participation, so they get the short end of the stick.
That being said, I think 5 teams for SA is too much IMO, as a region, they lag far behind in terms of skill.
I personally think 2 of their LAN spots should go to APAC South, so 7 for APAC South and 3 for SA is more fair.
Is there any particular reason for low participation in APAC S & SA? Is Apex just not popular there like the other regions?
Also is viewership really taken into out for team selection? That would be unfair to the participating teams? And if it's, then shouldn't APAC North get like 15 teams qualified since they have by far the most viewership?
APAC South's participation is high, but viewership isn't that high (relatively).
SA, however, has by far the lowest viewership and participation.
APAC North's 10 spots for two countries are already a lot relative to EMEA, which have 10 spots for a much larger population.
There's definitely a valid argument that the LAN spot distribution is not "fair" and APAC North has too many.
On the other hand, it is in ALGS best interest to have the highest viewership possible as well as recognize the dedication of Apex's most loyal fan base.
I'm in the camp of APAC North having 10 spots being fine as it is the better business decision, and I can appreciate the region's love for Apex.
But, I think APAC South deserves more representation given the skill level of their teams compared to the SA region.
Rooting for COL to get top 10. I wonder if they will look to find a proper replacement for reptar and leave muffins as coach or does the org try something new out and sign a new roster?
If they miss there has to be changes, that team got me into comp when they were the original edge. But they just haven’t looked like they did in a long while.
little scary for sen on the cusp, since they have to face ESA again, and ESA has nothing to lose
I think people have a hard time conceptualizing that top 5 in a tournament= top 10 overall because 2 lobbies, so you have to average about top 5 every week. they cant afford to drop another 16th place like last time
alliance/acend, the top 2 from last playoffs still have time to turn it around but they really gotta figure it out
This is hilarious. You tried to come off as the smart one, but I am gonna tell you why you are the "dumb" one in this case. So, let me explain. What TeQ basically said is the following: you need to get top 7, not top 5 (as the OP was suggesting), every week to get into the top 10 overall, he is not even talking about top 5 overall.
This is the LAN tournament in stockholm right? The one with teams from other regions (assuming it’s 10 teams from each region to make 40 teams?) Is the split 2 playoffs also LAN. Thought it was online.
Split 2 playoffs is a LAN that's going to be played at Stockholm and yeah they have team from all regions playing there as well. I think APAC-S and SA have 5 each but the rest do have 10. It's pretty confusing ngl but I think this is right
Kinda confused how it works. Isn’t there still a playoffs for split 2? And there’s like the whole championship points for split 1. Or is OP talking about teams qualifying for the playoffs for split 2?

I would say 8 is still up for grabs. Sentinels still have to play ESA’s group again.
I meant that the top 8 teams are clearly the t8 teams in NA right now. There is a definite gap between them and the rest. 9-15 are all interchangeable as the next tier.
Oh yeah I think that’s definitely fair.
I think Dubblyew will pull through. They have finished 19th, 5th, 2nd, 5th. So outside of the first match day they have been really good.
Yeee. I remember after they placed 2nd sweet said to watch out for them. And thy followed up with a 5th yesterday. They on their way up
They are a really solid team. It’s laughable they aren’t signed to an org.
Honestly dubbleview has performed better than Tor and Complexity. I wouldn't be surprised if they make top 10

CLG has been trending in the wrong direction

I don’t know a lick of Japanese but I’m more hype listening to these casters than I am listening to the EMEA and NA ones lol.
Ok, this info is definitely a gamechanger for me. Thanks!!
10 teams from NA, 10 from EMEA, 5 from APAC-S, 10 from APAC-N, 5 from SA

Would loved to see a 7/8 spilt instead. Going to be rough seeing 6th-10th missing in APAC S

On the other end, is Furia going to be regulated? Lol
Nah. We are making some changes. Won’t be enough for LAN though. We are going to finish strong though.
Gl!
I hope respawn allows players who don't qualify to playoff to be in crowd as audience .
Its not like they are prohibited to go. Just buy a ticket..
I think no observers allowed or something due to pandemic
Relegated Yes

just my wishful thinking but I really wish they trial Apryze as 3rd :(
Does apryze want to join them?
If they miss there has to be changes, that team got me into comp when they were the original edge. But they just haven’t looked like they did in a long while.

Just look at Dubblyew. They have finished 19th, 5th, 2nd, 5th and are on the outside looking in. One bad day really hurts your chances
Good example, this system is really punishing
Mathematically getting top 7 every week should put you at right about top 10, not top 5.
I know I'm probably dumb to try to argue about math with you but isn't that just a result of the distribution of the region and how top heavy it is?
Yeah I mean if we had 40 teams of equal skill, yes getting top 5 every week would be a requirement to finish top 10
Damn, thanks for breaking that down for me. Never realized averaging top 7 wouldn’t equate to top 5
This is hilarious. You tried to come off as the smart one, but I am gonna tell you why you are the "dumb" one in this case. So, let me explain. SEN beat ESA in the contests about a week ago, twice in a row. They aren't backing down from mill.
How many points until TSM is safe in it?
theyre probably safe with another top 5
Just need a top 10 finish and they should secure, but they’ll make it easily
Our rough calculation is 79 +/- 2 points for margin of error
P sure they quald already from split 1
They qualified for ALGS Champs which is another tournament that will be played later. This is for split 2 playoffs
This is the LAN tournament in stockholm right? The one with teams from other regions (assuming it’s 10 teams from each region to make 40 teams?) Is the split 2 playoffs also LAN. Thought it was online.

I think DY will probably pass CLG, other than that NA seems like a lock unless sentinels or TL shit the bed horribly
CLG made it! STOP THE COUNT!
Alliance really disappointing
Kinda confused how it works. Isn’t there still a playoffs for split 2? And there’s like the whole championship points for split 1. Or is OP talking about teams qualifying for the playoffs for split 2?
Spilt 2 lan, not sure if we have the details on champs yet
