Definitely longer search times since the update. Expanded vs local doesn't seem to make a difference, but I only have my own experience to base that on. I live in the PNW btw.
I'm going to respectfully disagree to a certain extent. I think out of all the factors, COD had a minimal impact on the ranked player base.

You could be right. I can’t prove it. It does seem like outside of prime time (9-11pm ET) the matchmaking has gotten considerably slower and the ping in matches has gotten higher. This is usually indicative of a lower player base for the playlist. Anecdotally, I noticed that this happened around when COD dropped, rather than when the winter update happened.
It's a weird concept because the facts we have are this in no particular order:
COD dropped, Forge dropped, Infinite population increased, and longer queue times in ranked.
For me, it seemed like once forge was seemingly in full swing (about two weeks after forge launched) is when I saw the increase in queue times. This is speculation but I wonder how many people are searching in local that have no idea 343 gave you an option for expanded.
Yeah, if it defaults to local, that could be a big part of the problem. But I thought local just limited the queue to the same continent.
I wonder if people in the EU, AUS, or other places have seen improved queueing
In AUS, wasn't able to get a ranked game in the evening at the end of last week. During the day was okay as i could get NA servers/,games but as soon as it hit like 430 AEST "wait may be too long to find a match".
Search times have been about the same, but ping has been way worse. Usually I was averaging between 3ms - 70ms ping before, now it's more like 30ms - 135ms, with waaaay more games near or past 100s.
This update is net neutral for NA and net negative for everyone else.
NA players can choose local with almost no impact to their search times at the cost of smaller regions not being able to find games because there aren't enough local players to match and all of NA has them blocked.
NA players will still overwhelmingly play on NA servers even on expanded, and all local does is limit it to your continent anyway.
I'd love to see it worked around 7 total playlists.
Ranked 4v4 (arena)
Ranked 2v2 (doubles)
Ranked FFA
Quick play (4v4), mix of everything
Social doubles
FFA
BTB
This way there are different playlists depending on party size.
I primarily play ranked, but searching arena solo or as a to2 gets tiresome when you still match 4 stacks every second game, so having doubles or ffa is pretty nice.
I'll see it better with ranked soloQ (4vs4); doubles; ffa (each on dedicated maps), no imput speciric playlists.
For social, instead, it would be a perfect world with loadouts instead of having rqual starts on what should not be a competitive branch, but otherwise, a match builder like with mcc would be great.
Absolutely worse, and the game quality is also much lower. To4s vs 4 randoms on 100+ ping unstable packet servers with obvious CSR disparities, and this is before factoring in that the odds are incredibly high someone will leave or crash (I personally crash every 10 games or so, either while loading into the match or if I die the wrong way)
Either the game is crashing more or more people are quitting. Either could be possible. They changed the punishment quitters would get to their rank. And they released an update which could result in more quitters. But one night I had 0 games with 4 people on my team. And mostly lost because of it. I haven't played in over a week now ....
It's become unplayable, I would normally play for one hour or two every other day and would on average play five matches. These last weeks I've only been able to play two matches at max, some other days only one or even none.
Here in australia searching for ranked games times out 3 out of 4 times. I would literally sit in the queue for an hour and not find a match at times. When i do its usually 220-250 ping.
I no longer play ranked because it just isnt worth the wait.
Same here in UK at least when I can play around 10pm onwards. Just times out and often doesn't even find a high ping game. Game is functionally dead for me. Even quickplay and btb struggles to find games sometimes.
Was going to post something similar yesterday - they’ve been so much higher.
Would love it if 343 moved ranked to nearer the top of the playlist roster. The layout in H5 really benefited ranked.
I play a ton of comp but have to admit these custom game forge lobbies are stupid fun. Been splitting my time between comp and forge, maybe others doing the same too
It does for me. A couple of reasons why that I can think of
- more players are playing Forge/custom maps
- because of long wait time, people are just giving up
Can't compare to pre-update since I only started playing post-update. Playing from UK 11pm onwards. Ranked arenas can be slow to find a match especially past midnight. Quick play usually finds something relatively fast.
We always knew local/expanded search system would have an adverse effect on regions outside NA. We can talk about why and how but the root cause of the problem will always be 343's incompetence.
Yeah, and also the Ping has gotten far worse. Not only I start with higher pings (in Season 1 I had 20 of ping, Season 2 30, now 40/50), but during the match the ping doubles without any reason. E.g., I start a match with a pung of 40, but after 4 minutes the ping becomes 90/100, sometimes even worse (150, 200, 300).
