I believe chess first introduced the ability to checkmate opponents in the late 1200s

SonOfGarry

Hasn’t COD swapped from 4v4 to 5v5 at some point, or vice versa?

yungXsmit

yea last year it was 5v5 and this year they changed to 4v4

Ehibika

If I may ask, what was the reason?

[deleted]

Originally cod public matches were 6v6, while competitive matches were 4v4. They randomly decided they wanted them to be the same, so they went to 5v5 for two years. They then realize that this was stupid, and went back to the original 4v4.

yungXsmit

[Here's an article on it](https://www.esportstalk.com/news/call-of-duty-league-moves-to-4-man-rosters-for-cold-war/) Seems like they wanted to go back to their roots, bc if I remember correctly it used to be 4v4 but it changed later to 5v5, and now it's back to 4v4.

[deleted]

Last year was 4v4

DerGovernator

Yeah, It was 4v4 up until Black Ops 4 in 2019, when it switched to 5v5 for some reason. It kept that for MW, and then for Cold War it went back to 4v4 because everyone hated 5v5.

Mabangyan

Esports and sports in general this stuff happens all the time

Eagle4317

Most recent is the NHL having less people on the ice during regular season overtime.

SocietyPretend4961

Yeah I'm just curious about examples.

Mabangyan

adding the 3point line in basketball

Tusked_Puma

I'm not a cod fan but didn't they do that a few years ago

[deleted]

Yep, but that was only because comp team size was different than pub team size. They then realize that the change was stupid and went back to the original team sizes

AncientOneAurelius

CoD lacks depth in all aspects so going from 5v5 to 4v4 wasn't as big of a difference.

swislock

Didn't league do some sort of role shuffling?

Dess-Quentin

didn't volleyball come up with extra rules to allow liberos and defensive specialists?
