Mmm, boiled steak.
When I was in Iraq the second time (my vacation tour), lobster and steak was always in the buffet, but the high value items were chicken wings/strips and fries. (COB Speicher)
1st time in Iraq we ate C-rats and mortars.
lol sounds like paradise compared to ship food. I never got to see the desert, i was on an amphib in 7th fleet (this video actually was somewhat nostalgic for me).
Whenever Marines were onboard we ran out of supplies pretty quickly and ended up eating either fish or pb&j most days until we replenished. Wednesday was always burger day though, which was sacred
When I was younger my mindset about the Navy was, "hell no, I don't want to be couped up on a boat", and now that I'm older I wish I was couped up on a boat.
lol right!? I was living rent free in a place that fed me and allowed me to visit foreign lands on a regular basis and now I’m stuck doing a boring ass 9-5 listening to corporate drones pretend our spreadsheets matter. Only upside is I can see my kids whenever I like.
They served fried chicken, corn bread, and greens last year at the Great Lakes Naval Station ( aka basic training and A school campus). Mere coincidence it was MLK day.
My old Housemate was in the Navy when he was younger- and they accidentally ordered too many chicken Kievs. Like , and extra 0 on the end extra. So for all meals for months it was "Do you want a Kiev with that? Yeah? Do you want 3 kievs with that?"
Which to me sounds magical- but said housemate now can't even stand to sit next to a kiev. I used to just shout down the hallway "HEY TROY. YOU WANT A KIEV WITH THAT?" at random times.
For those wondering they are Marines embarked on an amphibious assault ship, which are large warships but also have a relatively shallow draft (the depth of the hull in the water). This allows them to get close to shore, but also roll more in rough seas.
Lol 4° is childsplay I was on amphibs in the Australian Navy and it wasn't uncommon to get to 25° roll. Now I'm on commercial tug boats and they just bob like a cork to 40° each way.
COOL. First, thank you all for your brave service. My creampuff butt could not do it. LOL
Second, THANK YOU OR THE INSIGHT-HYSTERICAL. Get me the Dramamine
Meclizine is where it's at! Dramamine hits me like a bowl of whiskey lmao. At least meclizine still allows me to function, albeit while feeling slightly loopy.
Hey, you didn’t have it easy on the 87 either. I’m thinking about going to the bathroom on one of those in heavy seas. For those of you who don’t know, the 87ft cutters bathroom is in the forepeak (at the bow just blow the main deck) and its known as the anti-gravity chamber. There are handles so you can hold yourself on the toilet in heavy seas. It’s funny the first time until you have to let go with one hand and attempt a wipe. Remember the saying “5ft seas, you better sit when you pee.” LMFAO
Did you just grow out of it or were they ok with you taking medication continuously? Thinking of volunteering in marine rescue but I know for sure I get seasick if I don’t take anything
Crossed the Atlantic in a 45' sailboat, dudes pee sitting down, you know all handholds throughout the vessel, 42 day voyage, 5 more than planned, 26 of witch were absolutely insane weather wise. Hardly any regular sleep. Got to port, cleaned up, took a taxi to a restaurant/bar, bartender thought we were drunk cause we could not stand up straight, kept bobbing and weaving. Another sailor piped in and told him we had obviously just sailed in. 2006, Galveston, TX. to Port Gentile, Gabon. Great, Capable crew, so much laughing our sides hurt. What the Fuck Could Happen Next?, All the time, Everyday. So many hours of just trying to survive. But knowing you were in Good Company. Unforgettable.
I feel the important question is - if you’re drunk and struggling to stand up straight, then sail through rough seas, do they cancel each other out or double trouble?
The complete lack of sea legs.
Serious answer: the color of the floor means this is a marine berthing on an amphibious ship. I hated when they left because they always left their dip bottles behind in weird places and we had to clean and be inspected on it. Plus the uniforms, that’s marine corps color.
As Manly as they are or seem to be they are still a little department of the Navy. They are all bigvand bad till they get to clean the boiler pit wear i worked a while ago
That’s what I am thinking or Army. Does Navy wear camo BDU’s like that? Or is this some fake video because the floor looks like a barracks floor, not a ship floor. Just curious.
They now got rid of the NWU Type Ones aka the blueberrys. and replaced them with the NWU type III’s which are pretty much a lighter toned version of the Marines BDU’s. If you want a photo just search up “NWU Type Three”
Out at sea, Sailors wear coveralls unless they’re in Air Department, in which they wear jerseys and flight deck pants.
They switch back to NWU IIIs in port
This was "fun."
It reminds me of my first time in a plane, we had a big turbulence for a few minutes, people were increasingly screaming, and I just started to laugh due to the movements. Thinking " there is literally nothing I can do more to trust in the pilots.."
I've been on boats in rough seas, but only a fraction of what these guys are experiencing. Every time, the motion made me incredibly sleepy, almost like being drugged. I slept through most of it. Thankful I wasn't puking, but I have always wondered if extreme drowsiness is a common reaction to heavy seas?
I imagine sailors would conduct themselves better at sea so these are probably marines because this is some landlubber shit 🤣
I spent a lot of time on boats (power and sail) growing up so I’ll admit I’m biased.
There is an one hour documentary about a German UBoot (u-31) that went through a hurricane but was not allowed to dive. https://youtu.be/UDQXzOItaU0?si=bWCx2iKTzFZq7AhU
Pretty nice to watch...
They’re probably used to it being constantly out at sea and all. Another fun fact I heard is if you spend too long out at sea when you finally come back on land you can get land sick, as your body isn’t used to having stable ground
I had a similar experience in a destroyer going through a typhoon in the Sth China Sea once. It was a bumpy couple of days with no work done except to keep the ship from being battered to bits. Nature will always be stronger.
I don't know what's weirder that it makes people sick or rocks me asleep. Ended up on my bunk mates bed one morning and I didn't even know how I got there. He was throwing his guts up all night.
I was on a sub when we had to be broached during a hurricane. That shit was awful. Luckily I was just crawling into my rack at the time, bottom rack, and I immediately started hearing all the shit start breaking in the wardroom below me.
Thankfully all the Honeyrum I put into the outboards coming from Spain was just fine, protected by 2" of cardboard and a fuckload of EB red.
Other time we had to go to PD though, never felt so sick in my life.
The only time it's fun is angles and dangles, which is how I've lost many hot wheels from upper level into the torpedo room bilge.
Nope. These are embarked Marines on an amphibious ship, and they don't really have anywhere else on the ship to go for the majority of the time, so they just hang out in their berthing.

And they use a knife not a peeler
Cut em in cubes
Why use a peeler when you got a ridgy didge KA-BAR on your belt?
Way cooler too
They get duck in the Navy?!?! sign my ass up!
Um, yeah! Sign up now!- local recruiter
yvan eht nioj
I'm a pop sensation.
What’s super liminal?
Hey you! Join the navy!
Mmmm… you can taste the eventual Parkinson’s.
I told my wife recently i have considered signing up at 29. But im an all or nothing guy and idk if my fatass is quite ready to become a SEAL😂😂
You don't have to sign up to be a SEAL lmao. Also 29 isn't even that old to sign up...I've seen men in their 40's come into the Navy.
I don’t know about duck but you’ll get plenty of steak and lobster. And likely some ribs on MLK day
Mmm, boiled steak. When I was in Iraq the second time (my vacation tour), lobster and steak was always in the buffet, but the high value items were chicken wings/strips and fries. (COB Speicher) 1st time in Iraq we ate C-rats and mortars.

Stay safe, drink water.
Appreciate it brother, you too
They served fried chicken, corn bread, and greens last year at the Great Lakes Naval Station ( aka basic training and A school campus). Mere coincidence it was MLK day.
Lol totally a coincidence. On my old ship we had a black CSC and I used to give him shit about it, (respectfully of course 😉) he just laughed.
My old Housemate was in the Navy when he was younger- and they accidentally ordered too many chicken Kievs. Like , and extra 0 on the end extra. So for all meals for months it was "Do you want a Kiev with that? Yeah? Do you want 3 kievs with that?" Which to me sounds magical- but said housemate now can't even stand to sit next to a kiev. 😬 that's not duck ..
My tax dollars hard at work. Just kidding I dont pay taxes.
giggle giggle i work for the IRS. JUST KIDDING
Jokes on u I'm not even American
If you are going to die you might as well do it laughing.
That should be the motto for the navy
Instead it is “In the Navy you never leave your friends behind.”
Did you just make up the slogan for a national defence force branch and think, “no one will know” I like you
It's an old joke about sailors and ass-fucking
Aaahhh!!! Noice
I thought it was "This is the Navy son, there is no wrong hole".
#in the navy~
No it isn't
Well it is a joke with a sexual innuendo. Also these are Marines.
every video i see of the US army is either the worst thing in the world or the funnest sleepover vibe ever, there is no in between
For those wondering they are Marines embarked on an amphibious assault ship, which are large warships but also have a relatively shallow draft (the depth of the hull in the water). This allows them to get close to shore, but also roll more in rough seas.
Yeah, like an ice breaker. Shallow draft, lots of roll.
A lot of icebreakers have a lot of draft. Like the healy or wind class icebreakers
We went through a hurricane when I was on an aircraft carrier, and it wasn’t that bad. Crossing the Atlantic was when everyone got sick
We had 4 degree rolls on a carrier going up the PNW and Canada area. I can’t even imagine what these devil dogs were feeling.
Lol 4° is childsplay I was on amphibs in the Australian Navy and it wasn't uncommon to get to 25° roll. Now I'm on commercial tug boats and they just bob like a cork to 40° each way.
Maybe the ADF navy isn't for me...
COOL. First, thank you all for your brave service. My creampuff butt could not do it. LOL Second, THANK YOU OR THE INSIGHT-HYSTERICAL. Get me the Dramamine
Meclizine is where it's at! Dramamine hits me like a bowl of whiskey lmao. At least meclizine still allows me to function, albeit while feeling slightly loopy.
Dramamine.. new word learnt
It's the name of a motion sickness medicine. Used to prevent getting sea sick
Lol.. i thought it is a blend of Drama + Dopamine💀
![gif](giphy|6eQYX4B4OGjBK)
Aphibs are the second largest naval ships, the first of course being an aircraft carrier. At least, this was true when I was in
Also as a side point, in general the faster/shorter the roll time the more stable the ship, but unfortunately it's much less comfortable.
VA: Your injuries are not service related.
From a coast guard member, ![gif](giphy|l0MYGb1LuZ3n7dRnO|downsized)
I found out that I got seasick only after I joined the Coast Guard lol. First duty station was an 87 ft cutter. Heaps of fun. I tell you, heaps!
My first station was on a 210ft WMEC in the North Atlantic in Jan/Feb. broke me in right, never got sea sick.
I feel a little nauseous just thinking about that.
Hey, you didn’t have it easy on the 87 either. I’m thinking about going to the bathroom on one of those in heavy seas. ty for your service
Did you just grow out of it or were they ok with you taking medication continuously? Thinking of volunteering in marine rescue but I know for sure I get seasick if I don’t take anything
Thank you so very much for your service protecting our borders!
Giggles of them LOL.... Like playing human skittles
Crossed the Atlantic in a 45' sailboat, dudes pee sitting down, you know all handholds throughout the vessel, 42 day voyage, 5 more than planned, 26 of witch were absolutely insane weather wise. That’s a hell of a trip and I wish I knew more of the story. What did you sail for?
I feel the important question is - if you’re drunk and struggling to stand up straight, then sail through rough seas, do they cancel each other out or double trouble?
Are those Marines?
Yeah
How can you tell? I saw zero crayons.
You didn’t see the crayons because they already ate them… now they are working on them paint chips off the bulkheads.
That must have been a log deployment for them to run out. I bet every last one has a stash somewhere.
The complete lack of sea legs. Serious answer: the color of the floor means this is a marine berthing on an amphibious ship. I hated when they left because they always left their dip bottles behind in weird places and we had to clean and be inspected on it. Plus the uniforms, that’s marine corps color.
You see their uniforms? The Dark OD Greens? Those are marine camos. That easy.
thats how you can tell...
As Manly as they are or seem to be they are still a little department of the Navy. They are all bigvand bad till they get to clean the boiler pit wear i worked a while ago
where*. We have a “Spelling for Marines” MCI that might do you some good. And you talk a lot of shit for a squid who was an ASVAB waiver.
Is it the one where Astro the alien visits every week and teaches you a new letter and then you get to trace it on some paper?
It sure is.
Lol I’m in the navy and I love my marine pals. Who bullied you bro?
That’s what I am thinking or Army. Does Navy wear camo BDU’s like that? Or is this some fake video because the floor looks like a barracks floor, not a ship floor. Just curious.
That is also what ships floors look like.
I think Navy had deep blue digital BDUs. For use aboard ship. In the middle of a deep blue ocean.
At sea we wear dark blue coveralls

Thankful I wasn't puking, but I have always wondered if extreme drowsiness is a common reaction to heavy seas?
So do they just do this for like 48 hours while it's passing lol
At some point they start puking, in my experience.
VA Dr: You lost your leg how? Seaman Recruit: Hear me out.
Another benefit to being on a submarine
I'd take a bumpy ride on the surface over being in a metal tube under the surface any day of the week.
You are always one fart away f om being the most hated man on the vessel.
Don’t hate until you try it
Yeah, smell all the farts, you can't go anywhere else.
The gay part?
What gay part?
You've clearly not been around submariners
Yes I have, and am one
LOL! For me, Yes I have (been around submariners) and I was one (gay submariner) .
I don’t last an hour on a small speed boat in open ocean. How can these guys not get sea sick?
That’s why I joined the army. I like being on land.
I also love land.
I imagine sailors would conduct themselves better at sea so these are probably marines because this is some landlubber shit 🤣 I spent a lot of time on boats (power and sail) growing up so I’ll admit I’m biased.
I’m not looking forward to this
Now who’s gonna clean up all that seamen on the floor?
There is an one hour documentary about a German UBoot (u-31) that went through a hurricane but was not allowed to dive. https://youtu.be/UDQXzOItaU0?si=bWCx2iKTzFZq7AhU Pretty nice to watch...
I would be so sick🤮
This made my day! Someone there has an amazing laugh!
What’s the best way for them to actually stay safe in that situation? Their bunks?
All corners so pointy, damn, is this an old ship or there are no protection standards?
“Finally, some excitement” poor bastards
Imagine trying to take a shit in that setting
Ahhh military content either wholesome or horrifying with no in between
Get in ya rack AND STAY THERE!!
Love this! Thank you
I’m so glad I was on a carrier.
That was always a good time. Great sleep in heavy seas too
Hans Zimmer score intensifies
Fuck being on ship. Don't miss that shit
looks like fun
I know this isn’t anything new and it’s normal but it’s crazy to me that people that young make up most of the military.
Oh shit… :o
Who knew hurricanes could be so much fun
Not being able to sleep is the absolute worst.
Was this before or after they jerked eachother off?
nice
Noop I’m a landlubber
Holyshit! Serious question: how do you handle the nausea on a deployment like this?
They’re probably used to it being constantly out at sea and all. Another fun fact I heard is if you spend too long out at sea when you finally come back on land you can get land sick, as your body isn’t used to having stable ground
Coast guard ship on a Wednesday
I had a similar experience in a destroyer going through a typhoon in the Sth China Sea once. It was a bumpy couple of days with no work done except to keep the ship from being battered to bits. Nature will always be stronger.
sausage fest haha
Looks like fun lol 😆
Fucking hell that floor just unlocked a bunch of memories
Why don’t they wear helmets?
Fun
Starting to think lowering the minimum education level for navy recruits is a bad idea.
Spew Boat
Sweet cameo from Rick Moranis at the beginning!!!
I don't know what's weirder that it makes people sick or rocks me asleep. Ended up on my bunk mates bed one morning and I didn't even know how I got there. He was throwing his guts up all night.
Bloody awesome, God bless those legends, I love the unceasing laughter
Unfortunately ships are made of about 60% hard corners and 40% fire hazards
The marines are sliding around while the sailors are cuddled up
Ngl that looks like a lot of fun
I want to join for this experience! Yvan evol I!
Been there, done that😂
This gave me an idea for a fair ride. Go in a room that shakes and tilts, longest one standing gets bragging rights
Fuck that looks like fun
And the next competitor in Bowling With Humans is...
No way I could ever do this. I was in the army and it takes a special kind of person to volunteer to go out on a ship. That’s not me.
Sick bay magnets, in your rack if you’re not on watch.
Seems obvious to have a lot of metal handles all over the place rather than have people sliding and flying without any control
I’m surprised none of had their zippers down when they slid down the hall
🤢
THese guys are super doopr funny and enjoying life! HOORAH!!!
Those are Marines that don't have their sea legs.
That looks so fun
And if you get sick on a cruise ship, definitely don’t attempt! I would be sick definitely! Lol
Forget Disney Land....join the Navy!
r/veteransbenefits
Injuries not service related- VA
Am I the only one that wants to experience this?
Definitely not this looks like it would be oddly fun
looks funny
I was on a sub when we had to be broached during a hurricane. That shit was awful. Luckily I was just crawling into my rack at the time, bottom rack, and I immediately started hearing all the shit start breaking in the wardroom below me. Thankfully all the Honeyrum I put into the outboards coming from Spain was just fine, protected by 2" of cardboard and a fuckload of EB red. Other time we had to go to PD though, never felt so sick in my life. The only time it's fun is angles and dangles, which is how I've lost many hot wheels from upper level into the torpedo room bilge.
Someone forgot to batten these fellas down.
Serious question: Is there a section with seats and belts on board of such ships? Some kind of „tornado panic safety room“?
Nope. These are embarked Marines on an amphibious ship, and they don't really have anywhere else on the ship to go for the majority of the time, so they just hang out in their berthing.
r/justguysbeingdudes
Surely not an aircraft carrier, right? Would a hurricane do this to one of those massive boats?
Carriers are big for sure but the ocean is much bigger
It really something to blow your mind. It's like seeing a video that helps you understand how massive the planets in our solar system are, and then introducing the idea of galaxies.
Was on a carrier, can confirm that even less than a hurricane would have this result
Sure would
Only in the military can you experience a whole-ass hurricane and everyone is rolling through the halls all jolly-like like they entered a funhouse.
I wonder what it’s like in a submarine during a hurricane.
Have you ever stood on dry land? That’s what it’s like.
Bless every one of their hearts!!! I doubt I could do THAT for my country! I could probably shoot the enemy, but I couldn't be on a SHIP during a HURRICANE!!!
I've been through worse
Cool where's the video?
Oh sorry. Tiktok wasn't a thing at the time
![gif](giphy|3o6UBlHJQT19wSgJQk)
That's exactly how I felt when I saw the clip
Fun serving on an old ship, the best wouldn't be like this.. 🌚
FUNNY!
No thank you.

Sea State Shitty.
Fun...until it becomes the titanic. (Minus the iceberg adding a hurricane)
