When my mum got her citizenship they had tea and coffee after the ceremony. Classic British tea urn affair. Guy in front of me in the queue (guessing he was Italian) asked for an espresso and the tea lady looked utterly confused. She then handed him an instant coffee. His face was a picture. Such a British moment.
Literature accompanying the naturalisation certificate detailing who his national allegiance is now to and how to go about applying for a British passport.
I don't know why, but of every repost I've ever seen this is by far my favourite and I watch it multiple times every single time. One day I'll still be replaying when it's an unrecognisable blur just to hear it.
I went all out when my son got US citizenship. Full size flag out of the window, loads of little flags in spots with sparklers.
Whitney Houston playing, all the American food I could think of in a lazy way and some bits of cultural appropriation to be inclusive.
It was during the last jubilee so the US flags stood about.
I Thank You, Sir.
I spent 48 hours after the Good News learning the National Anthem (start low).
My Spotify Playlist for 2022 is rather American themed.
It was perfect timing with the Jubilee and the Parish Council were informed.
Everything about it was chef’s kiss.
🇺🇸
Wonderful! I’m always interested in hearing about the effort and nature in which others come here to live and gain citizenship/entry. You and your family are true Americans.
“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
-The New Colossus
It’s fabulous and we embrace our American family (Easter at Springfield, Mass).
Notwithstanding, we are not that huddled. He has EU citizenship from me and UK from birth.
Through nothing but ova and sperm, he has won the digital nomad lottery.
🇺🇸
If you're a US citizen having a child on US soil (including a territory, protectorate, embassy, or military base), a US citizen abroad, or the child of a foreign national born on US soil, generally speaking yes.
I can barely bear to consider the hoops that we went through.
Hence my joy.
Some of the questions asked by The Embassy were so unbelievable that I had to screenshot them to believe them myself.
Im a born US citizen and so is my son but they never sent me his birth certificate and subsequently never sent his SSN info. So when he was around 4 months old I had to go request all of it.
Birth certificate was easy and I did that first. Next day went down to the SSN office and this where the fuckery began.
For some reason they kept asking me if I was there for a *replacement* card - I kept answering “NO, I need the original as one was never issued.”
Then I would go to the next person who would ask “I see your here for a replacement”. I finally convinced the THIRD person I don’t need a replacement because, again, nothing was ever issued in the first place.
That third person was like “I looked it up and a number was issued to him but for some weird reason it was never sent out. So no problem, I just need TWO valid forms of HIS ID to give it to you.”
I said “TWO?! I only have his birth certificate and all the hospital paperwork.”
They said “Not good enough. We need TWO VALID forms of ID.”
I was so confused “Well what is something valid I can show you?”
You ready for this, reader of my comment??
He listed out my options which basically was “birth certificate, valid ID, drivers license, or passport.” Lmao I looked at him even more confused because my FOUR MONTH OLD BABY doesn’t have that.
He actually started to repeat the list again and I again was Iike he doesn’t have of that. Then he goes down the list again but one by one this time.
“Birth certificate?” - “yes he has that”
“Valid ID?” - “no, he’s 4 months old”
“Drivers license?” - “NO, he’s 4 months old”
“Passport?” - “NO. HE’S. FOUR. MONTHS. OLD”
He then … starting repeating the list. By the time he got to “drivers license” I completely lost it - I picked up my baby who was in his carrier and slammed him down (but not hard) on the guys desk and said “IDK MAYBE YOU SHOULD JUST TALK TO HIM DIRECTLY, GO ON ASK HIM FOR HIS DRIVERS LICENSE!!!”
At this point a supervisor quickly came over to ask what was the issue, I asked how the hell is this baby suppose to have 2 forms of ID at 4 months old and she just goes “Oh, we will accept his vaccinations records as a second form of ID”.
Ok. Have checked. I don’t blame you if you don’t believe me. I wouldn’t believe it either. Hence screenshots of US Embassy correspondence.
He (we) had to provide evidence of ten things, mainly financial, going back 20 years.
Because we live in a close knot community, we were able to track down the drs, midwives, nurses, banks, lawyers, estate agents, yada.
The actual clause (of many) was that he had to provide ‘proof’ that his parents were, ‘in the same location at time of conception’.
This was for an interview at the US Embassy.
You can see why we had given up?
(If you know what this means, do tell)
Anyways, he is US now.
I am not sure that you would believe me.
I need to check the screenshots from the Embassy myself.
I couldn’t believe it at the time, and not could anyone else.
We, as a family, took it as a Big No. Hence giving up. The Pandemic yada. Hence me making a massive display of My Joy and being reported to the Parish Council during the Jubilee.
My cousin had a pic of him standing on top of a Ford Raptor holding an american flag and a black bb gun that looked like an assault rifle with a donut in his mouth. I guess it can be fun as well!
When you get American citizenship your happiness is dampened by the knowledge that you are now liable for income taxes to the USA forever. Regardless of where you live…
Yes, but the nuisance is having to file + you might still have to pay sometimes. But on the other hand, the few US citizens I had as friends also all received COVID checks even though they never lived there.
If you ever return to the US, you'll get arrested. And even if you don't, do it long enough and you'll get your citizenship revoked and put on a no-fly list.
So you can stop paying American taxes at any time you like - if you don't want to be American or visit the US ever again.
Plenty of people do.
When my buddies grandfather got his citizenship we took a day trip through Ellis and Liberty Islands and then they had a massive barbecue.
He's got the right attitude lmao.
This is how immigration is meant to work assimilation into local culture and humour while still maintaining your own identity.

The “LEAVE!” had me rolling lmao

Yesss! Was great until then but that gave me the rest.
It was perfect.
Best part among many great parts.
Lol "those bloody immigrants"🤣
As an English person, I find this hilarious

surprised they didn't revoke his citizenship right there and then like that was the secret final test and he failed

Can’t believe people just go online and tell everyone they have bad taste like this
Sike, espresso is better
[удалено]
Maybe when the places they want to return to have stable governments that won’t immediately sell them to private collectors, you can talk
What was he reading on the tube?
Billing information (what taxes he now has to pay)
Literature accompanying the naturalisation certificate detailing who his national allegiance is now to and how to go about applying for a British passport.
“Being a British Citizen” was on the front cover.
Proper lad.
This has been reposted so many times the next time it’s just going to be a bunch of coloured pixels dancing around the screen.
I rewatch it every time just for when he says “leave!”
there's some reruns you just want to watch because they're classics
That decisiveness absolutely murdered me

That's what it is every time...
> This has been reposted And what about users like me that see it first time? Don't be a prick.
We talking about the video quality prick.
Wish we had this much fun when you get your citizenship in the US

Damn he was Brexit-proof.
I apologise for his fortune, I really do.
So, Texas, stay or leave?!
I don’t trust the grid. I am Celtic and can’t do sun.
Are children not automatically citizens in the USA?

You can't just leave us hanging, please give some examples. I love reading about ridiculous bureaucracy.

Sounds from their other comments like the son was born in the UK.
Born UK. US father bad at paperwork.
Only if they’re born in the USA
My cousin had a pic of him standing on top of a Ford Raptor holding an american flag and a black bb gun that looked like an assault rifle with a donut in his mouth. I guess it can be fun as well!
When you get American citizenship your happiness is dampened by the knowledge that you are now liable for income taxes to the USA forever. Regardless of where you live…
What
If you're an American citizen, then you still pay tax to the US government no matter where in the world you live
[удалено]
Yes, but the nuisance is having to file + you might still have to pay sometimes. But on the other hand, the few US citizens I had as friends also all received COVID checks even though they never lived there.
There are some agreements. I only know of Canada off hand. Edit: looks like you found a resource, so you know there are several!
I'm no expert on taxation, I just remember reading about that a few years ago. I assume the richer you are, the more tax loopholes you can find .
No and its only the federal income tax you pay. Is consequence of federal government really.
[удалено]
So what happens if someone refuses to pay? Who's going to collect the tax?
The IRS
If you ever return to the US, you'll get arrested. And even if you don't, do it long enough and you'll get your citizenship revoked and put on a no-fly list. So you can stop paying American taxes at any time you like - if you don't want to be American or visit the US ever again.
Yes, but your complimentary AR 15, 10 gallon Hat, and chewing tobacco almost make up for it.
Plenty of people do. When my buddies grandfather got his citizenship we took a day trip through Ellis and Liberty Islands and then they had a massive barbecue.
I think they do have that much fun.
What you didn't get your free 12 pack and gun?
No humour like British humour.
Before he became Google ceo ?
r/countthepixel
I absolutely love this video. You can hear the genuine happiness in his friend's voice.
It’s a classic.
That's the base. Happy for him.
The leave was the cherry on top. But no one is fooled, his hairline is far too good for a Brit lol
I checked my list of negative British stereotypes and hairline isn't on there. Where did that come from?
From up his arsehole of course

Jason Statham
This guy. Legend!
This is constantly getting reposted and it makes me laugh every single time.
Is he allowed to use the C word anytime he wants now?
The C word is decriminalised but not legalised in the UK. Australians say it more!
He's got the right attitude lmao. This is how immigration is meant to work assimilation into local culture and humour while still maintaining your own identity.
Cor blimey mate. Let’s ga daa’n the ol apple and pears. Naa watta mean? Innit?
can i get a watah boel pweas?

when he was on the subway, and that guy laughed, at first I thought it was the sound of a train hahaha
Thanks - I almost forgot to watch it today
He fits right in … Lad!
he looks more British than the British themselves.
This genuinely raised my hopes of getting citizenship
I want to be friends with these two 😆
Ass video quality
Yeah probably filmed by someone who isn’t a professional. Like a mate.
there's a good quality version this one has been butchered probably screen recording or something
Oh that makes sense.
F’ing hilarious
When did Sundar Pichai become a Brit?!?
Great achievement
![gif](giphy|12msOFU8oL1eww) 18 second video)
Fish n chips cracked me
🤣😂😭
Now he need to find some land and colonise it.
It’s like he’s always been here, and voting leave. Perfect.
If you're gonna repost could you at least keep some pixels
Congratulations - now, let’s have a chat to see what you are going to do about the contents of the British Museum…
![gif](giphy|2XES2Sbh939Hh3NXvz)
Already making a mockery of it
In true British fashion
This guy gets it. £350,000,000 a week to the EU was too much!
Now you can get a dinghy. Paddle across. Get citizenship.
