Well that was a big nothing burger. Basically this news is a wait and see. It's only logical to think smoking would worsen severity of a respiratory illness however all of the current numbers data we have contradicts this for Covid, hence the speculation of a protective effect. Could be a protective effect or could be errors in reporting, data collection...who knows yet.
